linkin park in new orleans

February 29, 2008
<p><img src="" alt="" width="589" height="442" /></p>

music for relief partnered with habitat for humanity to make these homes possible.

<p><img src="" alt="" width="640" height="427" /></p>

when the bands arrived, we got a quick orientation before being led up the ladders to the structure.

<p><img src="" alt="" width="589" height="442" /></p>

at the bottom of the pic, you see the structure which, by the end of the day, would be a floor. the house next door is unoccupied. the HFH people we spoke to said told us statistics show
that in areas where people move back to new orleans, more follow. families like to know they will have neighbors…so they spread out their builds to help encourage growth.

<p><img src="" alt="" width="640" height="427" /></p>

andrew, on the left, was our professional supervisor, making sure we did things right.

<p><img src="" alt="" width="589" height="442" /></p>

sadly, some areas of new orleans still look like this.

<p><img src="" alt="" width="640" height="427" /></p>

putting up the first wall ๐Ÿ™‚

<p><img src="" alt="" width="589" height="442" /></p>

putting up another wall.

<p><img src="" alt="" width="589" height="442" /></p>

this is a picture of what this home might look like when it’s done…these are homes in a community called “musicians’ village” that was built by habitat for humanity. like ours, the homes are raised off the ground to protect from future flooding. these homes each house a family of people who would otherwise be unlikely to afford a home.

haha, so sorry for the last few minutes, I totally FORGOT the order you posted, from the bottom to the top, so the top is newer. When the little things give you away, HOW can people retake…? When the money drops in the hands of gangland, I just can weep. When the freedom is eroded, but other FREEDOM PARADISES are still FROSTY….When a patient has a torture pain, doctors, parents will not understand, but oneself… So no one can understand the pain the sufferer has, everyone is the actor in this world, and everyone is also an audience on the grandstand, and some people…seem to play the role of…pine… Everyone enjoys, but at the same time, everything is faded from everyone’s memory…

I plan on attending California State Polytechnic University, Pomona this fall and major in Mechanical Engineering. Just so you know, I’m open to intern opportunities ๐Ÿ˜€
If you need someone around, I’m interested!
I”ll be a freshman in college and will work for any pay! LoL
But yeah, let me know if you want a future Mechanical Engineer around!

  3. linkinladie328 on March 9, 2008 at 9:18 pm

I think it’s great that you guys get involved in things like this. I’m part of the Habitat for Humanity club at my school Bishop Amat HS. I was supposed to participate in building like you did. It’s this Wednesday in Pomona, but unfortunately I have an assignment to complete that day. “academics first.” So I’m pretty bummed out about that ๐Ÿ˜

  4. analoggirl on March 8, 2008 at 4:46 pm

It’s amazing to see how dedicated you guys are to social and environmental causes. I have a great deal of respect for you and I’ll continue to support MFR any way I can. โค

  13. Jo on March 4, 2008 at 10:42 am

You didn’t make Chester to wear a helmet and pads when you were building the houses? He could probably have killed himself accidentally or something. Dangerous.

  14. zahra on March 4, 2008 at 6:04 am

and about givein up…it was great…but i really want to see you more in te videos soomike are you makeing a nother vid our is it over??????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Mike!!! The video of “Given Up” is SPECTACULAR!!!! GREAT!!! COMPLIMENTS! Bye bye!!!

  17. caleb_bozeman on March 3, 2008 at 10:40 pm

Mike, dude your such an inspiration to me. I can’t believe that you guys actually have time to do that. But anyway I have a band and we were wondering if you could let us use one of your beats to do a song (kinda like in Fort Minor when you used the beat from “Sweet Child O’ Mine” to make “SCOM.”

  18. katebennington on March 3, 2008 at 8:08 pm

Boys, i don’t know, but i prefer the old videos like numb, POINTS OF AUTHORITY, crawling, etc… if you ask to the people they gonna to say exactly like i’m saying… Boys i love you so much and i love this record, i’m glad for your evolution, but about the videos, the old videos are better than new!!! Points of authority from HT is a great example of a live video or a concert video!!! i sometimes feel that your imagination lost or you are too busy!!!

  19. katebennington on March 3, 2008 at 8:08 pm

another thing , the another 3 videos from MTM was a good videos, i really like it, but i had to watch over and over again for understand it, idk if that is the intention, but after i saw many times i finnally understand the videos!!!! i chose this option ‘I’D TO WATCH AGAIN’ cuz i want to watch more times and bigger!!! Babies i love youR band, your sound, your records, you personalities buT i have to say the truth!!!

  20. JazzyJaz on March 3, 2008 at 5:32 pm

    oh em gee,

  22. Janni_Loves_LP on March 3, 2008 at 1:50 pm

mike, this is amazing.. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think itโ€™s beautiful of you guys to take your time off your busy schedule to do that. many bands support good causes with money, but only a few take their time to actually go out and participate in these things. It shows that you really care about it, and I think everyone can see your passion for MFR on the pictures. ๐Ÿ˜€ If only every band in the world would be like you, Iโ€™m sure the world would be a better place. much respect! โ€“ Janni

Ps.: if you see this, please tell Chester that his fans think about him, and we wish him a fast recovery. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think itยดs really great that you use your possibilities to do this kind of good for people. It really shows that even though youยดre on the top of the world, youยดre not like cocky, wannabe rockstars full of themselfs. Also it shows a great example that you where there yourselfs, actually grabbing that hammer for real =) Tells something about your attidute. Great job, Iยดm sure those people really appreciate it.

(Also I wanna say my deepest thanks on another thing, coming to Finland, finally! weยดre sooo excited and waiting for it. To actually see you guys for real. Tons of thank yous!!)

Natrural disasters are always unpredictable and we can’t be sure that whether one day we will be in such situation.

The only thing we can do is to lend our hands to the people who are in need.

The world need care and love.

  38. Melnacolia on March 2, 2008 at 5:01 am

On first place I must say that this page is amazing. Is it really you who is posting all this messages?About the house in New Orleans,I’m very proud of what you’re doing.I always feel so bad because I think that I can’t do anything to make this world a better place, but you are doing what you can.Music for relief was such a great idea.I wish everyone of us could open his eyes and get involved in charity proyects. There are still so many things to do and to change…

Hope to see you guys in Madrid,if I get enough money :p

  39. Akaree on March 1, 2008 at 10:17 pm

…most musicians only talk about giving donations and helping out, they never are physically involved…you guys are though, so thank you for your kindness. MFR was created by the aftermath of the tsunami, which my country was gravely involved in, so once again, I thank you for your efforts. This is why I volunteered at the MFR for your London, ON. show on Feb. 23rd, to help you in your effort to help out the victims of natural disasters…..and yes…I wore that ugly green shirt too. pffft =P Aki hates green…lol…instead of sitting at home and “feeling awful” for all these victims, you guys got physically involved in healing the aftermath.

    xoxo, Aki

  40. Ezza on March 1, 2008 at 9:52 pm

It is great to see that someone in the world actually cares about the ppl in New Orleans…the saddest thing is that from where im sitting (at a PC in the NE of Vic Aus) is that the us government doesn’t seem to care that there are still ppl who have been displaced and are homeless because of katrena, and that it has fallen to Hollywood to help those in need. but at least you guys can brighten one person or family’s life. keep it up!…don’t let America or the world forget about New Orleans and the condition it’s still in 3 YEARS after the event.. maybe there should be a “clean up New Orleans day”? kinda like the cleanup australia thing they have in au…just a random thought ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. _JaSoN_ on March 1, 2008 at 9:18 pm

First and foremost, thank you. The things you and the band do are nothing short of inspirational. Even despite your success, fame and money, you still stay humble and wholly human. And you still keep in mind of the world and the people living in it that are in need. Most people don’t look down when they’re up so high. Its people like you, chester, rob, brad, joe and phoenix that make us think: “Hey, maybe one day the world wouldn’t be so bad. One day.”

  42. _JaSoN_ on March 1, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Not only that you inspire us to actually do something to better the world, not just sit there in front of the tele and pity the people who lost their homes on the other side of the continent but to get up and get our hands dirty to fight for the things we believe in. I still think MFR woulda gotten enough funding to build a whole city if LP would only tour in Canada…not that im holding any grudges. haha. Keep doing what you do cause you’re doing great; and thanx for being my role model. =)

  43. nataku on March 1, 2008 at 3:51 pm

  52. Astat on March 1, 2008 at 7:19 am

Mike, would you care to explain why one of your asshole security guards threatened the well-being of an LPU member while waiting in line for the meet and greet at the Oklahoma show last night, just because of a mix-up on LPU’s behalf with the list of members on the meet and greet list? What this guy did to this poor person was ASSAULT.

What you’re doing is fantastic and I wish I could be there along side you helping these amazing people. Big applause ๐Ÿ™‚

  75. ShadowerLiltani on February 29, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Kick-ass looking house by the way. This is cool too, because, if you didn’t know how to build a house/wall/floor before, now you do! (I’d love to learn to do that)

  76. ShadowerLiltani on February 29, 2008 at 1:28 pm

You know what just infuriates me? Britney Spears. Why? Because right now, at this very moment, that fucked up, slutty, trashy, moronic dumbass is getting press out of the wazoo. And here are six generous, responsible, and hard-working musicians who probably will not get press all over the United States because that loser is sucking up the airways. I think it is a show of true character that all of you have gone to New Orleans and helped people start anew. You actually give a damn and it’s nice to know that myself and the other people in this world who give a damn too, aren’t alone.

  77. baraquito on February 29, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Linkin Park is well known all over the world and I hope many people follow your example and spend some of their time to help others rather than just work for themselves. I wonder if you guys know how many people you influence all over the world! Thanks for everything, really!

  128. Romeo4wheels on February 29, 2008 at 1:11 am

  129. xclutchingmycure on February 29, 2008 at 12:56 am

you are a legend – all of the people that are helping out there. ANYONE who is helping out ANYWHERE is a frigging legend. it’s people like you (and the band, and everyone else who has helped in even the smallest way) that there aren’t enough people of in the world.

    honestly – that’s just amazing.

MFR is an amazing idea, and i can’t wait to see what it progresses to in the future, and how many lives it is (and already has) going to change.

  130. Jenn on February 29, 2008 at 12:52 am

music for relief is an amazing project mike, and its amazing that you guys are so involved in actually making a difference for people less fortunate out there. Some bands don’t really have the opportunity to care about their fans and others the way you guys do, and thats what makes Linkin Park one of the great legends. You guys are doing an awesome job, keep up the great work! ๐Ÿ™‚
