skibidee, skibidangja

August 14, 2008

here’s the post-show review, by me and bravo:

CB: heeellllooo ringtone – that’s my new default ringtone.

MS: you, and like 10,000,000 european football fans who don’t speak english.

CB: i like how he insists that you ‘tie your shoes’ before the song even ramps up. it lets you know where he is going w/ this thing. he wants to prepare you for jumping…or running…or going hiking. basically, he doesn’t want you to sprain an ankle.

MS: how thoughtful. it’s like a techno PSA.

CB: what does “scibidee,” “scibidaiger” mean? is that german? he follows that with “i am the re-arranger.” oooooh…shipoopi! take that to the bank. i also like “never, never-ever, the good weather.” he just like saying random rhyming phrases.

MS: “i’m internationally known from the east to the west coast, i like hot butter on my breakfast toast.” i like how he drops these gems and throws his hands up to celebrate.

CB: did they flash a swap meet ruff ryder medallion? what’s that all about? is he riding w/ dmx and eve?

MS: maybe he’s drag-on’s german cousin or something. speaking of which, they need some swizz beats whistles in this track. that would be incredible.

CB: what’s with the u.s. currency product placement in the video? has it come to us advertising how dope our money is overseas? the euro is so much stronger – flashing benjamins is like makin’ it rain pesos.

MS: YO why did the martini dude’s eye do the terminator thing? is he a cyborg?

CB: all-in-all, that breakdown is not bad – i’d love it after my 5th or 6th drink in vegas. i’d be on the table singing it by my 10th drink.

MS: HA!…i love the “dup dup” part…but the white guy’s “dup dup” isn’t nearly as strong as the other guy. he needs to up his dup game.

CB: if dude had a lil dance to go with it, he could be big in the US too – like a more energetic-euro macaraina…that’s gold right there – i don’t know where the ideas come from, but they are just free flowin’ — you can keep that one.

  1. koocoomoo on August 1, 2012 at 3:43 am

“he needs to up his dup game” LOL

  2. nickyfee on July 16, 2010 at 8:27 am

the song “how much is the fish” (was that the name, i dont know.. xD) is much better than this one.. looooool.. xD

Love 2 see it here in ur blog.. and chester is so funny… haha..

  3. rockermeg on August 20, 2008 at 4:35 am

That song is gauranteed to piss me off but be stuck in my head for a week straight…

I think the whole “skibidee, skibidangja” thing is just for rhyming purposes. Like in the very early Chili Peppers’ song one of the lines is “Antoine the swan” which lead to many rumours about Anthony Keidis but he says it was purely because it rhymed.

You listen to some weird shit Mike,

  4. darkness4 on August 19, 2008 at 2:00 am

that is so funny man! yeah, someone definitely needs some dup lessons! in fact, i think we need a dup off between you 2! i bet you have some dope dup skills inside you right mike!?

  5. nillp on August 18, 2008 at 7:27 pm

fortunately i haven’t heard about them before.. lol

    anyway. great conversation. x)

  6. Madlen on August 18, 2008 at 2:06 pm

Dup,dup, dup!LOL those guys are so much fun:D

  7. Angelic01 on August 18, 2008 at 11:18 am

I like scooter… especialy the frontman H.P. Bexxter… he’s really fun to watch on TV shows and on stage…
their songs are sometimes funny as hell and totally dumb… like ‘how much is the fish’
but I like it anyway… don’t ask why lol

  8. chucky on August 18, 2008 at 9:46 am

well, i´m from GER so i know scooter and this song. here in europe they´re really famous. i don´t like their music- i hate it!- but i know some people who loves them, so… a few fans of scooter in czesc republic painted even a cow with the scooter logo, there´s a song about it, too, but i can´t remember the title. but, hey, me & my friends are so fucking crazy, we wanted to write a book about linkin park, so what?

  9. alexxis on August 18, 2008 at 8:23 am

lol they was great stars in europe…scooter have benn 18times in top 10 ^^

  10. littlej on August 18, 2008 at 8:20 am

OMG! I can’t believe that you know this song. This band is one of the worst things which came out of Germany. I am German and they are bothering us with that shit for about 14 years!!! If you want to hear some other senseless words listen to “How much is the fish?” …

  11. Gemilla on August 17, 2008 at 4:13 pm

BUF … I’m Spanish and I don’t know this song, I think … I give thanks because the hatred haha what is surprising is that it is world famous but … If you can call music … hehe
I’m proud that I like other music haha

  12. Janni_Loves_LP on August 17, 2008 at 8:44 am

omg I have known this song for months! hehe.. I can’t belive you know it also! I’m from Denmark and like like Luciana said, a lot of europeans know this song.. 😛 I hear at every party i go to :s… and I was also amused by the little little conversation between you and cb.. lol 😉

  13. Wello on August 17, 2008 at 8:38 am

More Scooter for your entertainment. The remake of Supertramp’s: Logical Song.

  14. SimplyMode on August 17, 2008 at 2:47 am

that was some random ass shizzz..

Sadly everyone in my school is strangely fascinated with that “song”

I find it highly amusing 😀 – & I’m sure the ruff ryders crew would be soooo proud!.

  15. KATHYxx on August 17, 2008 at 2:28 am

I was amused with the commentary as much as the video lol..

maybe not as quite.. you got the songs stuck in my head so bad I keep having to come back here and play it

  16. analoggirl on August 16, 2008 at 10:19 pm

That conversation was pure gold! My favourite line: “it’s like a techno PSA.” haha By the way, I hope DMX is getting some royalties from that Ruff Ryder’s placement… looks he needs the money for his legal (and hospital) bills.

  17. Elizabethany on August 16, 2008 at 8:02 pm

    Damn. That was amazing.
& Mike… excellent job with the commentary.
And CB’s right on with the ringtone idea; there’s a way to know it’s your phone ringing and not your friend’s!

  20. ninguem on August 16, 2008 at 7:25 pm

    what a hell is this?!?!?!? i read 5 times and i can’t understand :s

  21. Anna on August 16, 2008 at 1:03 pm

hey, I am from germany and I think I can say, that everybody from germany who isn´t a techno fan, can´t listen to scooter anymore… he´s doing the same, all the time… for the fist time it was cool, but after a while it´s just boring… I don´t know, but he is never doing anything diferent… maybe if someone mix it up a bit, it could be really cool, there have to be something new in his songs…

  22. AS_21 on August 16, 2008 at 11:01 am

maan! I’m from Europe and I haven’t heard about him xD but I also like that part ” dup dup dup ” probably the best part of the song!
actually I don’t like this kind of music. It’s true what Bravo said: all-in-all… terminator! xP

ramstein IS [ I think, only ] good german music I know !

  23. luciana on August 16, 2008 at 8:00 am

ha!i’m from Europe and i know this song very well….Scooter- i like it loud :-p

  24. BraneWorld on August 16, 2008 at 6:34 am

PS: For what I talked about “encroach” is that…, there is a VERY CLEAR example, such as…”the boycott on almost everything international”, I think it’s ENOUGH to express this…picture…

  25. BraneWorld on August 16, 2008 at 6:17 am

The giant pace of history depends on the “accumulation” and “emission” of the pressure of the politics and economics. Only for the pressure exceeds the specific extent, the system of notion will be changed in the revolution,…the RAVE is therefore generated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. BraneWorld on August 16, 2008 at 6:16 am

  27. BraneWorld on August 16, 2008 at 6:15 am

…I just can say, I’m PROUD of being my homeland where belongs to me as you guys all! I think there is something MISUNDERSTANDING for people for talking about what something is rational, what is irrational. Insisting on principle is the fundamental demand and important thing for my life. As being a nationality, its national dignity is the member for the spirit of life. The cardinal framework is that “If people don’t encroach on me, I won’t encroach on you; if people encroach on me, I MUST encroach on you.” on the issue of NATIONAL DIGNITY!!!!!!!! Thank you~

In my family all listen techno, I am the only one in my family who likes something how rock, metal or hip-hop sounds.
I like techno but I can not hear it all day. ^ ^

but scooter is good but I like this more(joke). xD

    From a german TVshow… 😛 xD

(I know, my english is bad… but german and swedish is easier than english!!! xD)

  30. Alex_Heaven on August 16, 2008 at 1:31 am

Sometimes we have to listen (on the radio) to music of e.g. Turkish or Russian artists in their own language or in English and we sometimes can also not prevent that we like the sound and we start to move to the music.

Therefore I think it is not unusual nor shit that people in native English speaking countries like German Music (also specially Scooter).

I am also not impressed by their music but in every language all over the world it is valid to say “good is what YOU like” even it is Paul Potts or Metallica.

    Alex, Germany –

Hey Mike! The Glorious Excess art book finally came in the mail today. Another lovely addition to my book collection. My stepdad likes your art a lot, too ❤ Remember that question I asked about ten mins ago about the art books? Lol, j/k Well, turned out both my orders got cancelled, and I got some of my emails mixed up. Like, major USER ERROR. I'm shocked I'm not blonde… * sigh of relief *

  32. shan1105 on August 15, 2008 at 6:07 pm

  33. lucky_cat on August 15, 2008 at 3:14 pm

ok. let me tell you the whole story about that song. i will try it in a simple way because my english is not so perfect…
the song is a coverversion. the original one is from the hardcore-raver Marc Arcadipane and the original title was: “”My Radio, Believe Me, I Like It Loud”. he made it in 1996. he gave his permission to scooter for a coverversion in 2003 and followed by this he was threatened by some political righties from the hardcore-raver-scene. for saying “thank you” scooter mentioned him with not a word when they got the “Echo” in 2004… I think that says enough.
but your conversation, I really broke down while reading it :))))

  34. lp_butterfly on August 15, 2008 at 3:11 pm

OMFG!!! Mike I can´t believe you know Scooter, you scared me!
Even if people think they´re successful they still suck and are embarrassing.
I grew up with this band, even if I never liked them,if you are german, you just couldn´t ignore them, they were everywhere, creeping into peoples heads.
But their success only shows how shit german music business actually is,most of the things getting popular here are such a crap like scooter, casted boy and girlbands, which are only able to sing shoobidoo and lalalala or children´s songs.
I wish we could do better than that and do more serious stuff (not that there are no better bands at alI)
Anybody out there knowing REAL good german music?

  35. asianotter on August 15, 2008 at 2:20 pm

Scooter music vid. was OK . . . exchange between you and Charlie Bravo was priceless and hilarious!!!!! “The white dude needs to up his dup game” and “Martini dude and the eyes . . . is he a cyborg?” = friggin’ hilarious!!! thanks, Mike and Charlie, for the laughs! this is EXACTLY why i check out your blog everyday!!!!! thanks, again for being you! as always have a fun and safe rest of the tour.

  37. Tanya on August 15, 2008 at 2:10 pm

“How much is the fish” by Scooter is my personal favorite. You should check that one out.

  38. BlackChester on August 15, 2008 at 1:56 pm

  43. sandra on August 15, 2008 at 12:11 pm

well, being german, of course i know them…
but really not my kind of music.
still, you gotta give them credits.
they’re around for more than 10 years now – and really, really successful.
i mean, they released almost 40 singles and set a charts record with having 21 top ten hits (until now).
and, they just recently kicked madonna from the no.1 album spot in the uk – entering it from zero to hero!
besides that, they always got some really crazy and unique lyrics… like “respect to man in the ice cream van”, “the question is, what is the question” or “how much is the fish”… 😀
for sure their ain’t many artists you can compare them with… 😉

  44. zimminator on August 15, 2008 at 12:05 pm

MIKE YUoU LISTEN TO SCOOTER!!!!!!??????? ah thats crazy, i dont know any other american that knows who scooter is! but i do! i have one of his cds, ahh i love his music! ive known him since i was a little kid, i dont know how i even got to know him, but hes my fav! i wonder, do you listen to pendulum, or paul van dyk? do you listen to richard humpty vision?

oh man!the band scooter is really old here in Germany.they were famous in the 90´s.they´re still doing music but they´re not that famous anymore;-)but i think it´s better that they´re not!!!
and yes, ralf möller lives in LA,also!!!

  48. Susi1 on August 15, 2008 at 10:59 am

The martini dude is ralf möller, isn’t he? (“Cyborg” 1989) I think he live in LA .perhaps that explains “the u.s. currency product placement in the video” and the terminator eye. ;o)

… and HAPPY PERTHDAY Madonna, btw ^^

  49. Aqua101 on August 15, 2008 at 10:50 am

≈♥≈ Geezz…! Its ok Scooter (although not so into it). European is quite good in Techno/Trace music. But, I love 2-Unlimited better….remember them? Thats an AWESOME Trace songs, man! Check these 2 video : &….LOL-LOL-LOL

  50. Blaesbjerg on August 15, 2008 at 9:53 am

Edit: Imaging a british pub or a ski-bar.. Been in a ski-bar with drunk german people AND with that song.. Believe me, the atmosphere is absolutely at a 100% party mood.. “CB” is right, you will sing along in the end xD

  51. Umi on August 15, 2008 at 9:51 am

……………….. Awesome how you’re helping bringing German music to the states lol Scooter, they’re like the grandfathers of techno XD Hmm, in one of the comments below I read Beatsteakes, yeah, that’s GOOD German music… okay, they’re singing in English, but… whatever… and someone else mentioned Tokio Hotel shudder I don’t have a problem with their music, more with the whole hype about them, which exists since 3 years over here now. To be honest, I was more than afraid, you might take them with you during the European Projekt Rev, I mean, their fans are camping in front of the venue almost 2 weeks(!) before the show….

  52. Blaesbjerg on August 15, 2008 at 9:45 am

Hah, oh I’ve heard that song before, and I’from Denmark, hah! Soccer people and people haning out in bars usually hear this song and sing along..By the way, ghees Mike, you can’t just dudge europeans on the english! I mean, I’m 17 and can talk english really well… Of cause it depends on where you are from in europe :b..
    – I like that you actually saved you and “Charlie Bravos” conversation, it nice to see xD

  53. ShadowerLiltani on August 15, 2008 at 9:37 am

“i love the “dup dup” part…but the white guy’s “dup dup” isn’t nearly as strong as the other guy. he needs to up his dup game.” – Priceless ^ ___ ^ It’s like someone tried to imitate Will Smith’s ‘Gettin’ Jiggy With It’, but made it more gangster and failed miserably.

  54. Lamina_Lacrima on August 15, 2008 at 9:26 am

OMG Scooter!!! Yes .Okay not my music but it´s a party song here.
In my opinion german music isn´t bad. There are many bands wich are inaertational famous. I didn´t speak only from Tokyo Hotel.
    But tastes are different.

  55. clara110 on August 15, 2008 at 9:15 am

OMG. WHY DID YOU POST THIS? WHY? i hate the swiss german speaking part of switzerland for being influed that much by the german music scene… although there are also a lot of good examples (post RADIOPILOT, vor example! or WIR SIND HELDEN! <– good pop.. or what about the BEATSTEAKS? or FETTES BROT!!!! ).. but scooter… please stop that CRAP (YOU KNOW IT’S CRAP!!) i just hate this “music”.. saw it on VIVA (like MTV) last night… I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!….

just tried to watch it. couldn’t do this to me. need some chocolate (now that’s a clichee.. swiss girl eating chocolate..xD). xD

  56. graveguard on August 15, 2008 at 8:55 am

Yeah Scooter… The music is just crap xD
And why are you still writing “Charlie Bravo”. I guess everyone already figured out who he is 😉

  57. Cye on August 15, 2008 at 8:49 am

    Fire by Scooter.
Made it on to the second Mortal Kombat soundtrack.
It’s just an awesome Trance/Rock mix. Definitely worth a listen.

OMG! omg, omg…! thatz all i have to say!…omg!

  59. alyeska39 on August 15, 2008 at 7:43 am

This song officially annoys me. I watched the video last night, and this morning it’s stuck in my head and refuses to leave.

  60. keineAhnung on August 15, 2008 at 7:34 am

OMFG!!! you DIDN’T really watch that vid when you saw it on tv??? they are soooo embarrasing!!! (even if I’d go and see THEM before I’d ever go to see tokio hotel, who s_ck even more…) it’s really bad they’re famous (again)…oh, and btw: I don’t think this is “the” football song…at the moment that would be seven nation army by the white stripes (that’s why everybody was freaking out when n.e.r.d. played that at pro rev in germany, especially as the european championship was held at that time ;p)

  61. Tiberias on August 15, 2008 at 7:03 am

Scooter back in 90′ was really famous, when dance music was the only owner of Europe. Today he’s still a bit famous but not as much as yesterday. By the way he has plenty fans following him and obviously loving his dance music. I recall one – probably – only slow song that he did. It’s called “She’s the Sun” and the video is not that bad too. If you or other fans want to check it, here’s the link >>>

  62. Chasy on August 15, 2008 at 7:01 am

IBLONG – well, german music is not crap, only if someone like you always search for those dumb tracks/artists every country has. Sad, but okay. // Scooter is cool but hey, lyrics are mostly crap. What counts it’s only music for disco or a party or typical german youngstars with their brilliant borrow by daddy cars. That’s it. And Charlie Bravo seems to share my thoughts. I’ll never understand this “skibbidee” stuff, only noises, not more. No sense in german with that, lol.

  63. axrinekey on August 15, 2008 at 6:53 am

    Well, the song’s nice 🙂

But yeah, the part where he sings “dub dub dub—” just not as strong as the other guy… xD

  64. Neil on August 15, 2008 at 6:44 am

I like scooter. Check out One by scooter. one of my fav tracks.

  65. Joanie_LP on August 15, 2008 at 6:20 am

  67. Chemist999 on August 15, 2008 at 5:49 am

And I´m even more surprised by the way you can confuse us by this “Charlie Bravo” nickname. Who the hell it can be? 😀

  68. I_B_Long on August 15, 2008 at 5:33 am

sorry for all the posts, just something i had to share to prove my point of how stupid german music is.

its funny as hell, and thankfully pretty short.
im not even gonna get into the meaning of the lyrics…..
and this one, first time i heard it was in A NIGHTCLUB!!??? i think the dj was drunk…

  69. sasummsumm on August 15, 2008 at 5:27 am

lol you just dig all the shit out that is on tv in germany mike XD… dup dup dup dududup dup dup…XD yeah scooter…love em or hate em…but somewhat they were cult before here …well…in a bar with much alcohol they are funny to listen too you know…

  70. Brittney on August 15, 2008 at 4:58 am

I had already heard of Scooter and I live in the US :] Now I feel cool. And that was a pretty random review lol. Sounds like a conversation me and my friends would have.

  71. I_B_Long on August 15, 2008 at 4:54 am

i already commented, but i was just reminded of your sirens and silence video, and the great german music that was on there. THIS IS WHY I WANNA LEAVE THE COUNTRY (and i will sooner than i thought)
one of the only really good bands germany has ever produced split in 05 after over 25 years together. 99% of german music is pure torture. always has been. but i’d like to recommend some GOOD german stuff: off the top of my head i can think of these:
boehse onkelz, die toten hosen, sub7even, 4lyn. just to name a few. wouldnt want you to think that ALL german music is retarded. just most of it….

  72. Shinizzle3 on August 15, 2008 at 3:56 am

    uhhh embarrassing…=P …scooter, whuää i hate this music >_______<
but now that u made a blog about this xP

Ahh the joys of european music.

  74. Ekay on August 15, 2008 at 3:12 am

MIKE CHECK THIS OUT: really good quality filming from pr rev charlotte. amazingly good audio also. and your rapping blows my mind again! 🙂

  75. Ekay on August 15, 2008 at 2:55 am

Funny to hear that you like scooter..=) it was a big thing in europe in the 90’s! and thats true that normally outside europe not too many now about the “big” bands we have here. i personally don’t like this kind of techno music but in was different back in the days.and it does bring back memories:) heres a few links to scooter’s big hits:

  76. MelMinerva on August 15, 2008 at 2:46 am

lol – scooter is really successful since 1993 – all over europe. I guess they have this kind of recall value…they are pretty successful in the UK and especially in Germany. Some songs are pretty great for parties, some are….hm…let’s say strange. The lyrics are known as pretty bizarre (:D) – but that’s the thing scooter deals with; and that’s the reason why everyone is listening to it (-> just listen to “How much is the fish?” – and you will know what I mean 😉 )
Well, that does not mean, I like the music, it’s just a fact which is been known for years about scooter…

  77. antje on August 15, 2008 at 2:38 am

Oh, yeah Scotter…. I had forgotten. They still there. Thanks for remind me…. 😦 We had a hard time with Scooter the last years. Meaningful songs like “How much is the fish”, “Hyper Hyper”…. But obviously they have fans… Can’t understand WHY but each to his own….

But thank you very much for your review…. Very nice…
@CB: nooooo it is definitly not german…..just scooter know what it mean

    Take care

  78. Geister on August 15, 2008 at 2:27 am

Hmmm should i be worried Scooter knows my name?
Actually his stuff did pretty well in the UK charts, and who says us Brits are reserved? 😛 hehe

And Mike, maybe you and he could do a rap thing together? he could teach you his way of rhyming … if it don’t rhyme, make a word up that does!!

That guy with the red ruffled shirt on? he looked like the Hoff Man!!

  80. prisca on August 15, 2008 at 1:53 am

    hell no!
the only time i was listening to scooter was actually by my 10th drink XD
for us german it’s really embarassing.
i wonder, why so much people like scooter-techno. it’s stupid. you have to watch other lyrics of him….

and no, “scibidee” and “scibidaiger” isn’t german. our language is bad, i confess, but not THAT bad ^^

  81. Xenith on August 15, 2008 at 1:50 am

God I hate Scooter… More random Bowie please! 😀

I couldn´t watch more than 3o seconds of this. It´s too painful. >_< Aaaah!

Never imagined you listening to Scooter xD Or having long conversations about the songs…

Yup. Can´t watch Tv anymore -_-”

Greeting from Germany…(we do have good musicians here….somewhere…i think)

  84. murry on August 15, 2008 at 12:50 am

And everyone needs a little of this.

  85. murry on August 15, 2008 at 12:45 am

Haha… This totally sounds like something my friends and I would say, sitting around people-watching in the student union. It’s just, I don’t know– reassuring, I guess, to see that you’re pretty much the same wise-ass college guy despite all the success. That’s great.

  86. SdwOTD on August 15, 2008 at 12:11 am

SCOOTER! Haha! My friends introduced me to them um…4 or 5 years ago. They’re good for before you go on a long drive, or during late night hyperness. Defiantly late night hyperness. Oh yeah, I’m in the US and several of my friends here are fans. =)
Also, even though its merged, it would be good to check out [LPUMB > The Underground > The List]

  87. durg on August 15, 2008 at 12:07 am

  89. Shinodabestfriend on August 15, 2008 at 12:03 am

who cannot speak english?! -.- lol
    always prefer LP ringtones…. 😀

  90. Anne on August 14, 2008 at 11:48 pm

I am german AND can understand english – that is purely the only reason why I can not listen to scooter :o)

they do have songs like “posse” or “how much is the fish” and, even worse “The Question Is What Is the Question?”.
Never mind, I am glad that we also do have good german musicians.

  91. I_B_Long on August 14, 2008 at 11:33 pm

i had the logical song as my rintone 5 years ago…when i still actually used my cell phone…
thanks to my older brother who has a horrible taste in music, i actually grew up listening to scooter (against my will!!) if you want a real gem, check out “hyper hyper” or “how much is the fish” or their hem hem beautiful ballad* “break it up”
heard that on the radio a few weeks back. made me cringe….HP baxxter cant sing fer shit. so monotonous (is that right?)its rediculous.
and this is one of the many reasons i DONT watch tv….

  92. MissNatalie1984 on August 14, 2008 at 11:18 pm

scooter hit it big in australia with the Logical Song a number of years ago… and then that was it.

“CB: i like how he insists that you ‘tie your shoes’ before the song even ramps up. it lets you know where he is going w/ this thing. he wants to prepare you for jumping…or running…or going hiking. basically, he doesn’t want you to sprain an ankle.”

that had me in fits. 😀

    cheers for the randomness!

  93. MentalisFun on August 14, 2008 at 11:05 pm

    Lol…randomness…yes 😛 Scooter’s Take A Break. That’s got the whistling…sort of o_0

  94. ritzifying on August 14, 2008 at 10:57 pm
