dear hertz car rentals,

i looked into renting a car for four days, and got a list of responses back about your pricing.

Mid Size $245.00, Compact $233.00

Prius $754.69

charging 3 times the price of a standard mid-size for a prius? come on. we’re not saving $500 on gas. it’s not a luxury car. it’s also not a Lotus, which is almost in the same price range. you guys have tens of thousands of cars on the road pumping CO2 out every day.

“making it available” is not enough to show you care. you also have to make it accessible.

  1. Ezza on August 31, 2009 at 12:42 am

there are more environmentally friendly cars than the freaking ugly prius! and theyre petrol driven. the more kilometres to the litre the better like for instance most v8 in australia do about 20 km to the litre and i know the 6 cliinder that my parent own can make the 300km journy to melbourne on about one tank….mind u that could have alot to do with the amount of octain(spelt wrong i know) us i’ve heard ‘waters’ their fuel down… heard about hydrogen powered cars? since california is the only place they exist at the moment. what do u think?

  2. nillp on October 4, 2008 at 11:02 am

this is like an unarmed robbery..

they really should make it accessible..

’cause just pretend they care with the environment creating impossible solutions it’s a completely shit!

    sorry for my words.

  3. Mikeshi_Linkfort on October 3, 2008 at 2:27 pm

Yes problems of an environment are now very important. I would not want that new generations of people lived in the world poisoned by chemicals. If there is an opportunity to make this the world more cleanly, it is necessary that this opportunity was accessible.

  4. YuN_RoCks on October 2, 2008 at 3:43 am

    that’s why I love you .

  5. dark_soul on October 1, 2008 at 8:20 pm

honestly Mk do you really think those guys care about the enviroment??..of course not! it’s all bout money! cause they know there’re people that really cares about it….anyway I don’t know if really matters cause while some people makes a effort…other countries still don’t care about the world…animals or people….and they are the mayority in this planet…

  6. pbizkit33 on October 1, 2008 at 3:49 pm

goes to show how much they “care” about offering an alternative to their normal fleet of vehicles. Off topic: Any clue as to when the last 4 PR08 shows will be up?????

  7. shan1105 on October 1, 2008 at 11:13 am

That is funny stuff. did that really happen to you? Its REALLY IGNORANT you can save the enviroment and gas cost but you pay us more money. Just like car dealers reaised the pricing of compact cars because more people want them now that gas prices are so high. So the consumer loses either way. It is sad it is like that in the world. Just like eating organic will cost you twice as much, but if you want to eat processed food loaded with hormones you can get a good deal!! Okay done ranting, thanks for the post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. yanTyan on October 1, 2008 at 9:37 am

This topic is not my interest, one song from my city most hot TV series

  9. zahra on October 1, 2008 at 9:28 am

TO DAY IT WAS RAINING IN TEHRAN…i thout to my self that the sky was crying…=)

  10. zahra on October 1, 2008 at 9:27 am

    i agree with you TOO!!

  11. liope on October 1, 2008 at 7:40 am

i agree with you!! but think about that…when the very first computer was lauched to the market was very expensive and now everyone can afford one!!! so maybe this is the way it works…

btw one of your LP contest called “remix2win” was over a few days ago and i was wondering if we can listen the remix that won the contest!! 🙂 have a nice day!!

  12. Gabry94LinkinParkfan23 on October 1, 2008 at 6:38 am

hey mike, yea this car is very cool nd i really like it 🙂 🙂

  13. ShadowerLiltani on October 1, 2008 at 5:18 am

Prius… Hehe, reminds me of Jeff Dunham’s joke 😄 I think Ackmid the Dead Terrorist is hilarious. Anyways, 700 for a prius? They must have their heads up their asses if they think that makes sense. Why is all the green stuff so expensive? We should be encouraging people to get the green cars by making them cheap, so everyone can get one. Cheap things make more money for companies, because people think cheap is actually cheap. (We all no it isn’t, but we buy it anyways). Like, when I go to buy paper plates, I get the $3 one because I’ll only buy it once a month. The $2 one is smaller, and I’ll have to restock 3 times.

  14. keineAhnung on October 1, 2008 at 4:35 am

It’s a supply and demand thing…people are going crazy over all that ‘save the planet’ sht (not gonna discuss my opinion on that here) and some would pay everything for that

@doomguy13: how would you take back your country from the oil companies if your whole life is based on them? starting with such things as a toothbrush, which is made of plastic and plastics are based on oil and now think about how much plastic you use everyday, you can’t live without it anymore, there are lots of other oil-based products too…or just think of the logistics needed to e.g supply you with food…take public transportation, it too depends on oil…will be a pretty hard job to ‘take back’ your country ;p

  15. axrinekey on October 1, 2008 at 4:13 am

It’s obvious that they want to earn more money from those who want to save the Earth.

    Shame on them.

They should be encouraging people by lowering the price of the prius 😛

Oh, I just realised they called Prius as Hybrid car.

  16. Svetik on October 1, 2008 at 2:36 am

    Cars again?…WoW…U love them=)))))me too))))This cars I like the best=))))Car from past—

    and from the future—

  17. soyuneik on October 1, 2008 at 1:26 am

Did you send it? My pessimistic side is coming out, so I’m gonna have to void my opinion.
coughcorporatesleezeballscough…. Oh what was it! Yea! The Orphan Works Bill. I guess it hasn’t come up yet, but I at least got a letter from Biden acknowledging I bitched about it. (I have the strangest selection of “pen pals”). Should I start sending you rocks like my my childhood pen pal did? rofl.nah But I might send you a copy of our album when we’re done. (For listening enjoyment only).

  18. krayzieish on October 1, 2008 at 12:12 am

hey Mike. this isn’t really related to your hertz post (although wow… talk about consumers being raped for trying to go green!), but i came across this article & thought it was cool how far a lil creativity & some sharpies could take a person. check it out::

Man decorates basement with $10 worth of Sharpie –

  20. Calynka on September 30, 2008 at 9:22 pm

You live in the wrong country Mike^^ In Germany you can get the same car for one week for only 380 Euros (ca 540$). And it’s also Hertz.
Btw. I think the hole “Rent a Green Collection Prius” thing ridiculouse. “Yes it’s expensive, BUT you save the world for x days” Haha.

  21. KATHYxx on September 30, 2008 at 8:15 pm

I don’t think they’re doing that just to be dorks. I think they’re doing that because no one would rent their other cars otherwise. And it makes them lots of unfair money. …. oh wait, they are doing it to be dorks..

    lol @ the pic below.

  22. analoggirl on September 30, 2008 at 7:51 pm

I love the fact that you called out Hertz… there’s something about it that tickles me. Until recently, your posts have been a little light on the editorial side, but this one has a little bite. 😉 Edit: Btw, dianlucas’s post was hilarious. I would never have compared you to Martin Lawrence – but the resemblance is a little freaky. lol

  23. Doomguy13 on September 30, 2008 at 6:45 pm

It’s eco-friendly, not a land speed record setter. Just because it saves us a FEW dollars on gas, doesn’t mean you can pull an a-hole move and bust the price up. THIS is the kind of crap that is causing the stock markets to plummet. Stupid people pulling stupid moves and only thinking about themselves in the process. Reading the other comments makes me realize people have grown used to this. This is not okay. If we let this grow on us, the government, the oil companies, the freaking local grocery stores, EVERYONE will just throttle us more and more. We need to stand up and DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. We can’t just let this happen, this is OUR country. We need to take it BACK.

  24. lxlatinangelxl on September 30, 2008 at 6:30 pm

wow, what a great way to make cars cost more, seriously, they make it look like saving the earth is more expensive than what it actually is….this people wanna kill us with those prices…and mike I have an IMPORTANT QUESTION,maybe random….What is your advice to younger people who dream of becoming an artist?… other words, what’s your advice to me??and how important do you think art is for a kid’s education??

  25. Philly_Willy on September 30, 2008 at 5:21 pm

    Wow how very bullshit

Even if the cars do cost more to buy you would think that the rental place could afford to rent it out cheaper than the average bear.

Maybe they are supported by GMC or Castrol something?

  26. Elliot_aka_MC_Eli on September 30, 2008 at 4:51 pm

What does being wealthy have to do with anything? Say you are wealthy in kids so to speak. You have 6, one dies, are you gonna say ” ahh i miss john doe….. oh well i got 5 other ones” I know it doesn’t exactly relate to the point here, but i hope you get it. Just because you have more money than the average joe, doesn’t mean you wanna get ripped off.

  27. bec on September 30, 2008 at 3:55 pm

    Dear Mike,

I should be a bitch and point out that as a rich person you shouldn’t be complaining, however being not so wealthy myself I’m asking that you please attack all car rental places with this problem. I feel you would have much more power over these people than a tourist simply visiting your country.

    Many thanks

  28. cuz on September 30, 2008 at 3:24 pm

holy shit! those prices are insane! good response. take care 🙂

  29. Hybr1d_7h3ory on September 30, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Its is called the “Green” Collection because it costs a lot more of your “green”

Thats the only logical conclusion I can come up with.

  30. dianlucas on September 30, 2008 at 2:56 pm

  31. Shinoda77 on September 30, 2008 at 2:56 pm

Mike hahaha you gotta see that xD
god, this cat is funny xD

  32. lucky_cat on September 30, 2008 at 2:55 pm

    send it to them !

  33. Hawaii_LP_fan on September 30, 2008 at 2:34 pm

That’s a to the point & no nonsense letter. Hope you sent it! Well, if all else fails, do what I’m doin’ to cruise from Arizona to Vegas in a couple of a vintage magic carpet. Great on gas mileage, it uses the kaze. Haha, well hope they give you a discount. In all honesty, I think it’s pretty cool you’re wanting to rent a eco car instead of renting an environment ripping gas guzzler. Have a blast where ever you are heading to.

  34. HJP007 on September 30, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Thats ridiculous.. but why were you looking to rent a car for four days? Or were you just curious as to how much it would be? Udaman mike. -H.Patel

  37. Kalini on September 30, 2008 at 1:17 pm

I agree with you, Mike! I agree with Murry, too. There aren’t so many Priuses produced, yet. That’s why they are so expensive. Mike, I wanted to tell you that I’m totally surprised of how many things you know. Skindesbous wrote about your cover of The Cure’s Just Like Heaven. I was amazed that you knew The Cure. I’ve grown up with this music (The British music from the 80s). When I found your live performance in Hannover in you tube, I just couldn’t believe it! I thought you love rap music. I started wondering what music actually you are listening to. Krassie K.

  38. merve on September 30, 2008 at 12:47 pm

green collection: Prius $ a joke!!!anyway,we’ve already talked about this kind of ‘random’ things:) there is nothing we can do or say about this, but things that made with the ‘green’ title makes me laugh in these days:)

  39. I_B_Long on September 30, 2008 at 12:47 pm

maybe its gold plated? absolutely rediculous…. maybe you should just rent a bicycle instead.
thanks for sharing, i hope you actually let THEM know too!

  40. PankakeMunky on September 30, 2008 at 12:41 pm

i find it pretty interesting how you get charged 3x as much as a regular car just to rent a prius. it’s good to know that a prius is almost at the same level as a luxury car if i ever want to rent one. for a $700-something rental car, there should be a lot more toys inside if you’re going to pay that much. i’d say you should send an email back asking whether or not it is standard that it comes with a gps, kick ass sound system, free air fresheners, free paper car mats…

  41. enigmatic on September 30, 2008 at 12:22 pm

TMZ mentioned that some of LP went to a No On Prop 8 fundraiser. So what’s you guys’ opinion on the proposition?

  42. Shinodabestfriend on September 30, 2008 at 12:21 pm

obsessed with car, are we? ^^ lol I am one too!!! ask me something… lol 😀

  43. skindesbous on September 30, 2008 at 12:19 pm

WEST_LP, I totally disagree with you. He has a blog and he can post whatever he wants to. And about today’s post, I also think that. BTW, is that car from Argentina?

  44. west_lp on September 30, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Mike, seriously, why u keep posting those random stuff??why dont u post things about the band….about the band members, like, things that you are doing, things that the band r doing…because those things that u r posting r so boring….those r not interesting anymore…im dead serious….

  45. NoFace on September 30, 2008 at 12:03 pm

The bitch is back. So, ( reported that some Linkin Park members have been seen at a NoOnProp8 fundraiser. Totally out of curiosity: did you yourself take part in this event? Would you throw some comments on Prop 8? How does Linkin Park as a band hold opinion on this? another straight guy for gay right? :3
(rofl super-talented in taste? next you will have Mike Shinoda shooting luminous noodles from his fingers, srsly)

  46. rockermeg on September 30, 2008 at 12:01 pm

OK that is stupid AND unethical but…

Mike you just ranted about a car hire company! You should go on “Grumpy Old Men” xD

…I don’t know if you have that in America but its basically a load of (famous) old men complaining about stuff

And even though you’re only 31,you sound like them!

However,HERTZ is a bad company to use…why were you looking at hiring a car anyway???

  47. Monciukaz on September 30, 2008 at 11:59 am

Mike I like what you write… I assent with you..

  48. SimplyMode on September 30, 2008 at 11:59 am

I totally agree with you Mike. If anything they should be cheaper than the rest that way hopefully more people will resort to using those cars && do our planet a little favor aye!

  49. Anstice on September 30, 2008 at 11:58 am

    LMFAO. Well, that bites.

  50. miKer0cks on September 30, 2008 at 11:56 am

well, great taste in cars, music and clothing!!!! wow!!! u are not just multi-talented as an artist and a musician, u are aslo super-talented in tastes too!!!! 😄 well…i definetely agree with u!!! why dont they just lower the price and then more people will get the ”green” cars? it’s always about money 😦 damn….thank god we have u mike ❤

  51. Hybrid911 on September 30, 2008 at 11:49 am

you seem to love your cars mike! xxx

  52. murry on September 30, 2008 at 11:42 am

That’s probably because they don’t have as many Prius… es? Priuses?

Anyway, don’t you still have to get on a huge waiting list to even buy one? Well, you probably didn’t, but most people do, I imagine. The fact of the matter is, we shouldn’t even be producing cars that aren’t employing fuel-saving technology in this country. That we’re just jumping on the bandwagon over the past couple of years is ridiculous. And that we’re the biggest producer and buyers of giant gas-hogs is shameful. We’ve got a long way to go, baby.
P.S. Do you have anything to say to the kids about Prop 8?

  53. LPFreak1286 on September 30, 2008 at 11:40 am

Thats right man. Things haven’t changed a bit. Even if people are willing to make a change the big companies aren’t. And if they are their going to cash in on it. Did you ever watch “Who Killed the Electric Car?”? I’m sure you have but if not its very informative.

  54. ritzifying on September 30, 2008 at 11:35 am

did you actually send that as an email or letter? i hope you did.

  55. Snails on September 30, 2008 at 11:32 am

Exactly, its all very well for everyone telling us to be more ‘green’ – but by making it so expensive people won’t bother!

  56. AliceXD on September 30, 2008 at 11:23 am

o.o 750 someodd dollars for a car thats better for the earth.. thats kindof bull if you ask me… but then again how many people actually believe that the world is going to crap right before their eyes… everyone is just about making money these days.. wether its good for the environment is diffrent.. especially car companies.. rolls eyes and with rising gas prices.. holy hell thats just alot to pay.. and people wonder why the economy is crashing…. but then again… i dont think many people care about it either… or realize it… shrugs its insane..

  57. Curiosa on September 30, 2008 at 11:14 am

Totally agree w/u on this. Make sure u fill it up b4 u return it or else they’ll charge you 2x the $ amount 4 gas.

Wasn’t sure whether to post my reply in ur “reply 2 fans” blog or in here since someone’s been busy & I’ve only been gone a few day. :)~ So I’m going to go ahead & post the link here. Thank you 4 taking the time to read my reply 2 u. 🙂

PS completely aware that as a sublabel u can’t do whatever want.
