POSTED BY METAL_VALUE (about survey)
Did the survey.. But didn’t seem like the questions would contribute alot to the site personally ^^

M: To be honest, when I wrote the request, I thought the survey was going to be more geared towards the site…I didn’t see the questions until all of you did! HA! But thanks to everyone for answering the questions…it’ll be helpful anyway.

Hey Mike! How’s Chester doing?

M: He emailed me saying he’s recovering well. We’ll let you know when there’s an update.

…i thought it would be nice if you explained how the touring schedule thing works. I say that because now and then a rumor comes up about LP going somewhere they’re not and a lot of fans end up thinking it’s the bands fault or that the band doesn’t want to go to these places, which is not true…I’d like to know why you will not come to Brazil. They were saying that linkin park would come to Brazil on 15 November, but now they are saying you are not coming…

M: FYI, we were never scheduled to come to Brazil in November. I don’t know what went on therel, but I assure you that the band only cancels when circumstances require us to do so (health problems, for example). But sometimes there are nasty concert promoters in the world who will put up false information about a show because it benefits them to have people excited about their concert. The really horrible ones sometimes wait until fans buy tickets, or even wait until you arrive at the show…then they say the band didn’t show up. They essentially trick you into giving them your money. What these people are doing is terrible. Again, the best thing you can do is always check for confirmed tour dates. It’s only official if it’s posted there.

Hi Mike. I commend you for all that you and the band have done for the environment. The only problem I have with your entry is the importing of bottled water. We live in a global economy where everything is dependent on everything else. That person making that bottle,tv,shoe, pants, and etc., depend on us for their livelihood. If America and other industrial nations stop importing goods from other countries like China and other developing countries it would be disastrous. You are essentially putting someone out of a job that they need to survive. Mike, you are in a position of influence and a lot of people look up to you. I hope that you will take the time to consider what I have said here.

M: Sorry, in this case, I think the waste and pollution is the bigger issue. If lead paint on toys poison children, you can’t argue that you that we should turn a blind eye to lead paint production simply because it provides jobs to the workers.

Check out the facts:

I agree on what you have said about stealing music from the internet.
I have been trying to collect all your albums but here in Malaysia, it is so hard to find it.
Minutes To Midnight I believe is still available in the stores but I really want to get my hands on Theory Hybrid and Meteora and the other remixes album. Also the LPU 8 pack. mmm…cookies is the most cute songs I have ever heard! I love Linkin Park since I was 12, (I’m 18 now..yay! :D) and I am trying to be the best fan I could be. So, any suggestions on how to get all the LP albums? Please please please tell me there is a way!
P/S:And when I say LP albums, I really meant ALL.

  4. Hardik on March 15, 2009 at 1:24 pm

Recently I was seeing some posts regarding the record company. I think that it’s bit hard to manage the worldwide network with the fans especially when that particular band is involved in many dimensions(touring, artshows, meets & conferences) And creating music. Those musicians who wish to stay as an indie band, all they should do is to develop their communication with fans.

Marketing & administrative tactics, by giving sample for download.
Adding some enhanced content in the CDs.(Code)
Then start another website for dedicated fans.(Chargeable or nonC)
    Proper advertisement.
Concerts, meets & greets, coffees & conversations.

    P.S. Linkin Park’s doing it!

  5. Raidomf555 on November 10, 2008 at 9:47 am

My comment here is little late cause I hadn’t read this post earlier.
I have to say that it’s very hard to not to d/l illegal music here in Estonia. First – CD’s cost about two times more than in USA and 2nd – it’s almost impossible to get every band’s original music here. Also iTunes etc doesn’t work here.
So I have “stolen” music, but at least I buy music as much as I can. 8-10 yrs ago I had mostly original music but with growing up and discovering more new artists I have had to choose which bands I like enough to buy and which not.
So I wanted to say that me, as an artist too, doesn’t count it as big crime if you d/l music you like only a little.
BTW Thx for the great news about LPUCD

  6. linkinladie328 on November 1, 2008 at 4:01 pm

    I have a question..
in the “given up” music video, there are flashses of words like from a book. where is that from? i made out some words like “a schitzotype, would like you to , by Jaws. Sure, when it was final, I had no idea how large his life, It was his secret”. where did these lines come from?

    just curious.

    later mike!

  7. Girl_X on October 30, 2008 at 8:06 am

Therefore I will probably never buy a LP Album again, because I don’t want to support the Life of a Playmate!

  8. LPfmAAF on October 24, 2008 at 1:20 am

i just want people to take a look at this and to read the description. this person used linkin park’s song as a tribute to 9/11- one of the worst tragedies in history, and to the unnecessary iraq war. yet warner bros still took it off

  9. Henna on October 23, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Hey mike. sorry for posting more than once. but what i saw on was totally contradicting you statement about downloading music.

Read the 5th last comment from the bottom of the page. If i didn’t know any better, I’d think that quote was true. I find it extremely annoying that someone would put up something so false and claim that you said it. Take care.

Good job that you response to those questions without fear…hahaha!will, i have a question, you work your ass with that album and i saw your video that your buying your album i mean, all of you are buying your own album in a store. Your name printed on the cover that your one of the producers and your buying your own album?haven’t got a free copy from your publisher?sorry for such an idiotic question like this one…hahaha! Take Care you and LP :))God bless:))

  11. alichino78 on October 22, 2008 at 3:02 pm

thanks for that lesson Mike about the stealing of music via the net and the importance of an artist like yourselves in his/hers work of art. what i will say here will be surely out of the topic but i will say it again. your music helped me to get back on my feet again. i’ve got involved in a fatal accident that almost sent my family to hell holding their breath as they pray to God i won’t have a flat line. miraculously i’ve survived. the healing process was hard and it driven me insane being immobile for a year. i’ve stumbled upon your earlier albums. listening to your music disintegrated my anger issues. i thank you for that and you guys got yourself a lifetime fan.

  12. Curiosa on October 22, 2008 at 11:44 am

Sorry 2 break de rules 1 more time but as far as “going green” & unemployment believe it or not unemployment can affect the “green” effort. N order 2 go green 1 has 2 have money 2 b able 2 “fully” go green. Sorry but over half of the US population is not financially secure or receive $1 M when releasing an album there4 cannot afford 2 buy a $100 K vehicle 4 the purpose of “saving the planet” or else they’ll b left w/nothing & financial stress can lead 2 suicide which can affect the rest of the family. Read more n the link below.

    I’ve 3 things to say:

1st:first I Download the song but later I buy the cd because is much better have the cd that have only the song is my opinion

2nd: what about secret asian man? his last post was on october 12th…

3rd and last: this is the post with more comments since… I remember xD

    Kisses 4 U^^

    U barack my world 😉

  15. Shadow on October 22, 2008 at 9:36 am

I most definitely prefer buying a CD and so show my support. And I also get something back: great music, concerts…maybe just a feeling that a song causes (like today I was driving to work, got stuck in a traffic jam, the radio played Leave out all the rest and I felt better at once). By buying a CD you give the artist the chance to survive. And think about how much hard work is put into releasing a CD. Writing, recording, all the promo and stuff that goes along, that is very much stress and sometimes hard to take. Would you like to do all that without getting a well-deserved reward for it?

  16. Shinodabestfriend on October 22, 2008 at 9:31 am

    nice song with Mark , Mikeh….. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……………………… VEEEEERY NICE…..

  17. JaySinkie on October 22, 2008 at 9:29 am

Hey Mike, I have a guess/idea for the next LPU CD. You guys could re-record studio versions of the Xero Demo Tape, plus maybe do Pictureboard and Esaul too (even though there’s already a good demo MP3 of Esaul around). I always thought that’d be awesome for you guys to do, seeing as the Xero tracks are dope, and only maybe a handful of fans have ever heard Pictureboard.

  18. Frerard on October 22, 2008 at 8:08 am

wow, you’re really a dude with too much stuffs on your head. reason on why i don’t care even if it’s LP is that this whole shenanigan is only a one time thing. it’s somewhat amusing to know that hey, Shinoddle can be insane too at a point. that is all there is to it. do you really think that LP is going to be THAT uber stupid to make a sex drug violence festive album for their next one? oh wait…. maybe they are going to, i just gave them the idea.

  19. axrinekey on October 22, 2008 at 7:19 am

    That’s why I bought LP’s album!
I mean, I feel like I’m helping you all and I’m really happy with it…
and well, at least it’s the least that fans can do, right?

Chester’s recovering! Glad to hear it!

Okay, so you’re tempting us about LPU now huh?
New unreleased songs, sounds really interesting though!

  20. Kalini on October 22, 2008 at 4:28 am

To the fans, RE: “Barack your world”: Hey guys calm down! It’s posted officialy on Joe’s fansite The official statement is: “Two more weeks to the US presidential election and Mike has made his choice.” More info about it on It’s just a funny video. It’s not related to Linkin Park at all. Krassie K.

  21. sassi_lp on October 22, 2008 at 4:12 am

BTW, Leave Out All The Rest is also played during the pre-views of criminal series like Dr. House and CSI: Miami on german RTL. And Faint was used as the song for CSI: Miami episode 2.6:) In case you didn”t know.
(So Obama is next I guess?)

  22. Ash_Qwerty on October 21, 2008 at 11:05 pm

    To: FRERARD.
I understand and see your point. He’s not putting the LP name to it and is of course, free to do what he wants with his own name or whatever, it’s just not what i’d expect from Mike or the rest of LP. Limp Bizkit or a band like that maybe… But not LP.
An you can’t really say ‘so what if it is LP’, a band cannot act one way for so many yearsand build a fanbase on it then completely change their actions/behaviour etc in a negative way like that. If the lyrics/theme etc of LP’s next album was like the Barak song, i certainly wouldn’t buy it. I doubt i’d be the only one. I’d just prefer if it wasn’t him but hey, it’s his life. An i’ll check out the ‘Real Talk’ thing too.

  23. Frerard on October 21, 2008 at 10:01 pm

    damn, breaking the rule again.

no, i don’t agree. cos it’s obviously not a part of LP’s work and that’s just how you suppose to see it. even if it is, then so what, really? the song is just for the fun, just for the laughs, just for the kicks, just for the insanity and definitly didn’t fail to entertain me. do you like the “Real Talk” spoof, btw? had a laugh? if you did, why need to take this one seriously then? cos the “Real Talk” is actually where mike & chaz being “mean”, it was a straight mock to R. Kelly, a huge ass slap.

in conclusion everyone just needs to EL-OH-EL or ARE-OH-EF-EL-EM-AE-OH. really.

  24. NoFace on October 21, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Mike man, say something about Barack Your World! That song rocks hardcore! LOL at people who can’t eat it up, that’s the BESTEST song around right now. Do you intend to share the funny songs you wrote back in highschool? You talked more than once ’bout them and I’m dying to hear some! Jeezy, where’s young gangsta Mike?:p
To be honest, I think people are reading way too much into Mike’s message. He’s totally not like ‘YE GOTTA BUY MAH ALBUMS’inserts daddy voice here. In some case, downloading music (illegally or not) is not a bad thing. As bad as it may sound like, it does help spread music to a larger crowd. Respect the artists is one good thing, but don’t work yourself up too hard.

  25. Zigi on October 21, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Hey Mike! I hope you know about Chernobyl tragedy which happened in 1986. I have a question for you, do you plan any charity actions or maybe conserts. I hope youll answer my question. Thanks anyway.
P.S. and sorry for bad English.

  26. Ash_Qwerty on October 21, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Am i the only person on here who hopes that stupid YouTube song about Barack Obama isn’t Mike’s work?
Apart from their music, the one thing about LP that makes me proud to be a fan is that they are such nice, honest, decent, moral guys. Their music never mentions sex or violence and never advocates drug taking, crime etc and especially in such an overt manner This is one of the reasons they have such die hard fans. Not to mention that a lot of these fans are young. Obviously Mike can do what he wants, but i for one hope it was nothing to do with him. It’s just not the LP way.

    Anyone agree?

  27. ChesterDEAN on October 21, 2008 at 4:47 pm

I support your point of buying the music from the band and not from meaningless sites. To be quite honest, I only buy the albums I know I love, which are the albums of my favorite bands like Linkin Park (duuh), The Beatles, The Doors, etc. So, I buy their albums. But if I don’t really like an album or an artist but liked one of their songs, then… that’s when I download their music online (not yours anyway, nothing to be worried about hehe)
Anyway, I have a question. Is there any chance for you to make another DVD like the Frat Party one? or a very very long LPTV on DVD hehe that’d be great, I personally love those videos. I

  28. Henna on October 21, 2008 at 2:13 pm

Thanks for the responses Mike. i’m 16 and i’ll b honest, majority of LP songs i haven’t bought. You’re right, downloading illegally is stealing, i guess i never really thought of it like that. I love LP’s music,i only really got in2 your music about 5 months ago and buying all your past albums would have been expensive. But i understand, i read your post on how much a artist actually gets. u got me thinking and i’d rather spend money on music i love than give it 2 fast food companies that’ll have a negative affect on people anyway. so just 2 let u know that you’ll be gettin my ‘less than a dollar’ from now on. i agree with your statement about poisonous lead on toys compared 2 unemployment

  29. TaylorKenjiLP on October 21, 2008 at 2:10 pm

“Sorry, in this case, I think the waste and pollution is the bigger issue. If lead paint on toys poison children, you can’t argue that you that we should turn a blind eye to lead paint production simply because it provides jobs to the workers.”

i agree with that 100% mike.with all the pollution & environmental problems weve got going on, if they dont get fixed, eventually unemployment would be far from our biggest concern.

  30. Ash75 on October 21, 2008 at 2:10 pm

You said here a lot of important things, Mike, for example that part about stealing the music. I’ve never thought about it! But now I’m sure I will. You were rigth, artist work really hard to see the effects of their work… You’re a very sensible person, Mike 🙂

PSSS: Mike, I agree w/Rez & Frerard. What good will it do keeping the planet clean if there is no 1 2 njoy it? 1 must come up w/a middle ground cause people’s lives r just as precious as the earths. Btw u do realize that the tilting in the earths axis can also cause these weather conditions not saying it’s the only cause but also a possibility (this coming from sum1 who grew up green).

  40. Anne on October 21, 2008 at 7:06 am

I also rather do not download things. Buying is so much more fun 🙂

But sometimes I find things I’ve never even heard before, for example found at Linkin Park – From a Whisper to a Scream, released august this year. Could this be official? I’d like to buy it… But if you guys don’t get any money for that, it would be the same as downloading things illegal.

Could you give your OK for that, Mike?

  41. Zakul on October 21, 2008 at 6:02 am

    Hi Mike,
Are you aware of how Australia is going to get a compulsory national firewall implemented in the near future?
Fair enough, it’s to protect the nation from what is deemed “inappropriate”. But is this not a violation of our rights and freedom on the internet?
This includes, torrent sites; youtube videos which break Australian copyright; “offensive” blogs on myspace/facebook; wikipedia articles (such as suicide, and euthanasia); forums with discussion “unsuitable for children”, “free for all” sites, and sites deemed “inappropriate for children”.
    More info at:

Hi Mike, thanks for all the responses. Wow, I really do see you as a wise person now! You began to think of where the money of the albums you bought, were going to at the age of 16? o.O .. It makes me wonder how you grew up! I mean, I’ve brought something because of liked the band and thought they deserved it, but not really thinking about that I was supporting the band in “that” way, cause you always think that they have so much money anyway. THANKS for that answer, it was really good! 🙂

    Hi Mike,

Good to know all these answers to all these questions ^_^
Btw did you notice the change about you on wikipedia? There are more pictures and the one of you, that looked weird, is gone and replaced by a much better one. Thanks for the one who did that !
Btw did you also noticed that the Art and painting and Fort Minor sections are bigger than the Linkin Park one? Oh and there is absolutely nothing about Music for Relief either and that should be in the LP section!
I’m not going to write it because I’m a terrible writer and sometimes my english sucks…
Hope everything is good and hope to see you guys real soon live :D!!!

okay, so everyone’s speculating about this Barack Your World song, so i’m going to go out on a limb and say this:
i applaud you, Michael Shinoda, for your sexual innuendo filled song Barack Your World. I never thought you were such a dirty perverted man. I salute you. You are my hero! rolls eyes
spill the beans Mike. did you have anything to do with this song/vid, was it a collaboration with Mark and what the hell were you on when you came up with this?!?!

  51. KATHYxx on October 20, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Pirates. They don’t believe that justice for stealing a couple songs is to ruin your entire life or education. Or that the original premise of copyright to be a “compromise” between rights of artists and buyers. Or the invasion of privacy part. The whole “War on our Customers” mentality has cleaved two extremes: The Fascist “We tell you to listen to your music whenever we feel like” and angry Pirates who have lost all respect for copyright when they were betrayed.
Funny how people can download their TV right to their DVR and pay a nice SUBSCRIPTION in exchange, yet they demonize torrents instead of putting a subscription on that. Fighting advancement of technology is not good business

  52. Frerard on October 20, 2008 at 8:08 pm

sorry to break the one comment rule, but i seconded them who pointed FMMB issue. YOU really need to come down there once in a while, your last post was on 12-07-2007, meh. it’s not dead, you know. some people still postwhoring the place, to keep it alive – me (spikeshinnizle), included. if not for FM/LP news, then perhaps just random thread or post, like the mantis one. that was epic.

oh and yeah, details on BarackYourWorld / White Pegacorn, pretty please.

  53. Obzcura on October 20, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Hey Mike. I’m a student by day but a musician by night. I’m currently taking Music Theory at my school and i was wondering… have you ever taken a Theory class? If you did, it would make all the tedious stuff I do in that class seem more relatable. ( It’s OK.. Mike Shinoda identified intervals and made counterpoints too.)

  54. bearzy on October 20, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Hey Mike, for some reason I have a feeling that the next LPU CD is going to be Cover Songs!! Personally I think you guys should play some LP songs but have everyone in the band trade spots, Have Chester on Drums, Phoenix On Vocals, Mr: Hahn Mc, Brad On the turntables, you on bass, and rob on Guitar…. =D

  55. NataliaForgotten on October 20, 2008 at 4:05 pm

Please, answer my question. I’m a brazilian fan and I saw the rumors that Ariel told you. But now I want to know; how works for you guys to make a show in a country? How they set the dates? Do you guys choose or your tour managers do it alone? I have money to travel to Rio and São Paulo to see both shows, but I think I’ll only see one when I move to Europe. Take care, Mickey! ❤ ( …and… I’M GONNA BARACK YOU WORLD! Is the second verse your voice? *___* So funny video! OMG)

  57. Lori on October 20, 2008 at 2:57 pm

i used to d/l music for rare eps/live versions/etc, but i prefer to buy a cd, so i have something i can physically hold, plus my ipod is 4gb so im constantly taking music on and off depending on what im listening to most at the time becos tbh i go through phases of listening to one song on repeat (for some bizarre reason, atm its fleetwood mac “in the back of my mind” but i have to skip the first 3 mins). and i would pay for songs from itunes and accidently delete them the next day :S
ps barack my world is funny as fuck, whoever made it 😛

I’ve also heard about Linkin Park going to play in Brasil on November
I’ve really got confused when I watched that interview, Chaz said LP would start to record a new album in November
But I realized I may have read it on a unnoficial place ….

However it’s so cool to know the next LPUcd won’t have live songs! That really made me even happier!!!

All! And I loved the cover of R2R DVD!!!
    It’s so well done!

Mike, I am completely the same way with my money usage. I got my first iPod a month ago. My preference is to buy an album, save the tracks to my computer, then transfer to iPod. I’ll use the iTunes store to purchase songs from groups I am not familiar with, but I won’t use it for groups I love. I simply don’t completely trust that money I spend always gets to the artist(call me paranoid), and as you posted, only a small percent of the money reaches the artist. I’m sure even less money reaches them when music is purchased on iTunes, because you introduce Apple into the scenario. I believe theres a situation going on with iTunes that may end up in it shutting down? Have you heard about that?

  67. colinreid on October 20, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Hi Mike I know this has nothing related about this but I came across this music video that I think you and your friend Mark Wakefield did back in 1997 i think ? Called Barack Your World Can you explain about this? Thanks Mike! Heres the link

  68. sasummsumm on October 20, 2008 at 1:05 pm

i agree mike, if you really like an artist you buy cd’s or i do on lp and some other bands i found by downloading mp3’s. if i hadn’t downloaded e.g some adema or paradise lost songs i wouldn’t have bought a cd of them. where else can you find music better. on my tv or radio there is no chance that bands like that appear so i need other sources to find music. it’s simple. i think i buy more cd’s through downloading and listening to songs. i know there are ppl who download everything and never buy a cd.but everytime i see this at ppl i know i tell them to go and buy the cd.because it’s just right. i better spend money to support my fav artist than buying some other needless crap.

Mike I was going 2 post some responses 4 u of the serious nature but reading the comments below I changed my mind & am going 2 comment instead. You’re stepchildren (fmmb) are feeling really left out cause their step-mom (you) (ryu being the dad :)~ lol) has completely ignored them & hasn’t ackowledged them since Dec. Many have stated they do not like lpmb (some have commented on how rude people are there so they keep out & I even remember seeing a comment about it on here from a new fan of urs about it) & prefer fmmb overall. It would be nice if u could just aknowledge 2 them that u haven’t 4gotten them. It would mean a lot to ur stepchildren, thanks. 😉

  71. ecetim on October 20, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Mike – interesting discussion on royalties, thanks for sharing that. I’m sure you’re aware of the tactic Radiohead attempted some months ago around direct sale of their music. The results were recently announced, you can read here:

What do you think of such a tactic and is this something LP would consider?

just wanted to know how you think up ideas for each individual painting? I am currently doing a set of paintings called “Dystopia” where i am doing paintings of everything that is wrong with the world, well not everything as there aint enough paint ion world to do that many painting but you get my point. And i am going to follow it up with a set of paintings called “Utopia” where it is all good in world! So i was just curious on the thought process that goes into your paintings just to help me out somewhat? Or if you had any ideas that would be awesome? Good luck with all your paintings i am very excited about seeing them.

  76. Joanna on October 20, 2008 at 10:11 am

As for bands that I LOVE (Linkin Park, Atreyu, ect), I will buy their cds, merch, and go to a concert.
However, I will download music on certain reasons (which would be too long for this post since the post here only allows 700 characters) — But to sum it up the best way I could, for me, I download to find new music for my taste of quality. I’m not going to take a chance on a $15 cd to get burned from a band in which I only like 4 or 5 songs from out of their whole discography, but if I do end up beginning to like most of their music (from downloading), then I would buy the cd(s).

  77. tacos_on_tuesday on October 20, 2008 at 10:08 am

Re: Re-prioritizing – I think that there needs to be a better way of indicating what is quality music. The worse musicians or entertainers are geniusly marketed to the point that the general public spends $ regardless if the product is inferior. Anytime dollars are the measure of success or failure, greed inevitably lurks. We are fed images of lap of luxury existence & we realize -That dude does not need my 99 cents more than I do. Sure there are struggling artist but SOME are struggling for the simple fact that they suck. They may put more time & pain into their work but it can still. Not all efforts are reaped with rewards. Life is brutal.

  78. cuz on October 20, 2008 at 9:31 am

Mike, I totally agree with you. For me it’s not even a money issue, but kind of moral thing. How could I steal from someone I LOVE? I don’t download–always buy original CDs. I like having a physical CDs with an artwork. Printed are not the same… But it’s not the main reason why I buy. I often hear people calling me stupid for paying for something I can have for free. But I would just feel bad with it. I don’t mean I’m saint or something. If there’s an artist I can’t get in my country and can’t import or don’t have money at the moment (which never happens to LP’s, HA!) I have to download. But then always look for a chance to buy original one. Great that Chester is better 🙂 Love you guys.

Really people who call me the bad music artist…
Well, i think everyone has this…
Probably there are a lot of people who really don’t like Linkin Park…
But my question to you is…
You have people sometimes say to you, you make bad music?
Because you’re famous, you have a lot of fans…
They maybe stay sweet and even still ask for a signature.

And another question is, are there places in the world…
    Where people don’t recognize you?

  84. Leconte on October 20, 2008 at 7:17 am

I’m impressed by what Mike said about purchasing music. I feel saying “I support this writer/singer!” to others whenever I buy some album or download a piece of music. Last year, I listened to LP music for the first time (better late than never….so sorry…) . Before that I could not feel like listening to any music for long time because of my depression. Getting back from that condition, I pay money for LP music to give my thanks to them! My case may be rather exceptional, but we have to remember that stealing music equals to breaking the law.

  85. max_payn on October 20, 2008 at 6:36 am

Me and a lot of friends, really would like to buy the shirt designed by you or the shoes, bt theres the problem, we in germany or general in europe can’t really purchase those stuff from usa. we really would like to buy the things, so do you have a solution for us guys in europe?

  87. ThunderStrike on October 20, 2008 at 5:59 am

I totally agree with what you said about music downloads, but sometimes it’s just not possible to buy music….for people in certain countries anyway. Take India for example, only cds of popular bands are available but even then, you can only find a single edition of each i.e. no MtM dvds, and even iTunes doesn’t offer it’s service here. So you can see that for less popular bands, and special stuff, free downloads are the only way. I’m still in the LPU though xD

  88. zahra on October 20, 2008 at 5:51 am

  89. thenewLinkinPete on October 20, 2008 at 5:22 am

Hey Mike, I find your comment on the downloading issue interesting and I quoted you to make some conversation on the MB and put my own opinions there:
It would be great if you would have the time to check that thread out.
Also I´d like to ask if the famous quote “We support free music. Go ahead, download that shit!” (or smthng like that) is yours? Cause for example on youtube people seem to use that as a justification to put up your songs. Peace

  90. Anene on October 20, 2008 at 3:59 am

Mike you’re AWESOME!!!! Taking the time out of your day to read and answer our questions including those that are stupid is just bloody awesome. I don’t know how many people as famous as you even bother with a site much less pay attention to their fans. You’re unique in the most beautiful way. Thank you for sharing the news about Chester’s recovery with us. I was a little worried there, given his track record and all. Have a great day. I hope your artwork is coming along great. I hope to see it come January. How i wish i could trade spots with you for one day. I love to write stories but wish i could draw what was in my head as well. Sadly, I lack that talent.

I’ve always bought your CD’s, but I understand that they’re so expensive that some people can’t buy them. If your albums were just for downloading in the internet, it would be cheaper and almost the same results, why don’t you do like Radiohead did with their last album? We could pay you the money we thought the album cost :). About the live album, i’m exicet about it cause this show was from the first tour of yours I went to =D And I agree with you in the rest of responses :]

Umm..I’m not gunna lie to you it’s someting I can’t do to you
I did download songs of your’s with out saying BUT I have all your CDS but the ones I did download is the ones I can’t find anywhere like the boneus and the demo’s.. FORT MINOR I downloaded hiep I think it’s called and the other ones you did that wasint on the albumes
But I do buy slot of stuff of yours cuzz I realy want you around I can’t think what it would be like without your music
So question will you be doing anything with FORT MINOR any more..?

  96. Metal_Value on October 20, 2008 at 2:03 am

Lolz cheers for the response dude appreciate it.

Hmm.. Neither Live tracks or even new material? =S lolz strange one that, but I guess if you’re saying it’s the most “unique” it must be lolz… Yeah turns out there’s just one audio file on there with you saying “Yeah guys this is what you get for ranting on about not having live tracks. Nothing.” lmao xD Or maybe even just a blank CD xP Now that would be unique!

But I still think that QWERTY was my most personal favourite track of all LPU CDs, such a good song. Looking foward to LPU8 non-the-less though ^^. Peace dude.

  97. MusicalMorphine on October 20, 2008 at 1:35 am

“We heard your comments about the last LPU CD needing to have more unique material”

Haha, I love how that sounds so much better than “we read your continuous rants..”

alyeska39 – Haha, you’re totally right. But no new material? So maybe tracks that never made it onto albums?

  98. Frerard on October 20, 2008 at 12:39 am

    in response to your response…

    i couldn’t agree more with re-prioritizing thing.

you should check whatever it is first before telling us to do shiz the next time.

being unemployed and has no income can kill a life too, you know. i say this topic is like a thin ice.

    food for thought…

ringtone companies do need supports, cos it’s undirectly supporting music/artists/songwriters. most of their product are from music and they’re one of the main core in the industry right now, esp where CD sales are just blah atm. like RingBack sales of 1 LP song in half year can match the figure of MTM sales in one and a half year.

  99. Kalini on October 19, 2008 at 11:22 pm

To Max_Payn: I had the same problem recently. Down there you have View your site, next to LPN and Home. Go to View your site/ Friends and you’ll see who it is. When I created my account, I didn’t create my profile and i didn’t have any friends, but I got the message that someone wanted to be my friend and then created my profile. Good luck! Krassie K.

  100. Navi on October 19, 2008 at 11:21 pm

    Hey Mike,

I’ve one question that I want to ask. You might be aware of the fact that many online DJs, bands, rappers use your music to show their skills. You know like rapping on your instrumental versions with their own verses and DJs remixing your songs with new music to improve their skills (not selling only for demo purpose). So do you also reckon that as stealing your music? Or are you in favor of the artists who do that?

One last thing, when will you come to India? You’ve such a massive fan base in India but you’ve never performed here. It’s really sad for the fans. I hope you’ll come here soon. Keep up the good work 🙂

  101. max_payn on October 19, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Ah…..guys, sorry for interrupting. I don’t know how to use this site…When I come here, There is a notice saying ‘someone want to be my friend’… I don’t know how to respond. anybody can help me? How can I answer to them? I searched everywhere I couldn’t figure out…

  102. Southpaw on October 19, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Hey Mike, why did the band decide to make a live DVD of a show the fans already have DSPs of, and good video footage of? We know it’s your biggest PR, but there were better shows you could have made a live DVD with.

The band should do a Super Bowl halftime show. That would be the best show you could play. Just think, tons of people watching on TV, and the entire stadium cheering all of you.

PS: Are you a Green Bay Packer fan?

  103. pepper on October 19, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Mike – about your first response, that’s exactly how I feel! Like everytime I buy an LP CD it means that maybe that will ensure my favorite band stays around a little longer! I love knowing that when I buy them, all your guys’ hard work made that and the money is going to you guys. I don’t even burn my LP for other people, I’d hate to cheat all your hard work. I encourage them to go buy them because they’re not ridiculously priced or anything and they’re completely worth it!!!!!! Can’t wait to buy R2R.

  104. noidea on October 19, 2008 at 9:11 pm

haha!! Mike, you just light up my hope again………..(My mood was so down when I saw you guys are cutting songs off the DVD.) Now, you can see how people are excited about this news……”Unique”LPU8!!! Yes!!I I am looking forward to get that. However, I still hope that three song video footage will be in the DVD somewhere. It’s good to hear that Chester is recovering well. Poor guy!! When is he going to release his solo??? (I know I shouldn’t ask you but Chester rarely update his official site so……) BTW, you guys contact each other by emails?? haha! That suprises me. I though phone is quicker and more convenient. The last thing is I like your answer of the last question.

  105. Doggie24690 on October 19, 2008 at 8:49 pm

I completely agree with paying for music, merchandise, etc for bands a person supports. I may have tons of Linkin Park music on my computer that I downloaded from sites before I got the actual CDs but now I have just as much of a Linkin Park CD collection then I do on my computer. For example, got all the LPU CD’s from sites about 2/3 years ago and now I’m only officially missing two CDs. (Mind you the 2 I wanted most, ha.) I’ve probably spent a good 4-500 just in CDs/DVDs. As for the LPU 0.8 CD, I’m excited. Thank you for letting us know that there won’t be live music… sigh of relief. Not that I don’t appreciate your shows, lol. Good to hear that Chaz is doing well. 🙂

  106. alyeska39 on October 19, 2008 at 8:30 pm

    “(insert frantic guessing game here)”
lolz! We were already doing that. You just helped make people stop complaining and saying “omg it so better not be live tracks again!!”
But, oh oh! I know! It’ll be… eh, I got nothin’. I’m content to wait and see what it is.

  107. lp_fm_fan on October 19, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Music stealing deal: I completely agree with you on that! I thought that for a long time now. That’s why, since y’all are my favorite band, I buy all your CD’s, merchandise, tour tickets, etc. I’m a huge fan, keep up the awesome work!

LPU 8 CD: THANKS SO MUCH, MIKE! We were really worried about that, though that does make me wonder what’s gonna be on the CD. It will be audio, yes? XD ooo, video?? Hmm, I’ll think about it more. Haha.

And I thought the whole Brazil thing was true as well. Kinda sad it ain’t, I live in Houston, TX but I’m from South America, so I have family down there so, I could go anytime. xD
Y’all should think about touring in South America, lol.

  108. BoC on October 19, 2008 at 8:14 pm

I agree with you 100% on the stealing music thing. I think if you listen to the music a band has worked hard to make, there should be proper exchange there. I get pissed when people make fun of/bad mouth Metallica (mostly Lars though) for suing Napster. I think they totally had the right to do that and they stood up for themselves when other bands didn’t.
As for the LPU CD, I’m relieved that the extra live tracks aren’t going to be on there. I will say that the one live track I wouldn’t mind having is Crawling with Chris Cornell. I’d really want a recording of that…

  109. AlexBae on October 19, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Hey Mike. I think it’s really cool that you’re answering fan questions. It just emphasizes once again the commitment you have to your fans. I have a question too.
If, in the future, my band wants to try to get signed to Machine Shop Recordings or just wants to get a deal in general, what do we do? What is your advice for breaking into the music industry? I find myself at a crossroad in my life where a career in the music industry may be a path I take. I need to know what to do and how likely it is that I can be remotely successful in this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  110. ShadowerLiltani on October 19, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Mike, in reference to the last comment, I agree with you completely. Trading/imported goods is a big deal internationally, so, they’ll find something else to import pretty quick, and up the job market goes. Even back in Paleolithic times, trades among anywhere from two people to two governments was just as important then as it is now. Speaking of what goes on in other countries, what is your response to “Child Sponsorships”? Do you think these charities actually help greatly, or make little difference?

  111. ArielCahen on October 19, 2008 at 7:54 pm

    ey Mike!
Glad you saw my previous comment and answered it. I think it’s important for the fans to know that you guys care and are not the ones to blame for the opportunism of this kind of promoters.
Aside from that, I’d like to say “THANK YOU” for dedicating part of your time on listening to us and sharing your thoughts. You’re someone we look up to, so that’s just really nice.
Much love and respect to you and to the rest of the band. Don’t ever quit being special and down to earth like you guys are!

Oh! On the new LPU CD, my guess is: remixes and covers from other bands, maybe? hehe!

  112. Rez on October 19, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Hi Mike. Thanks a million for responding to my comment regarding the bottle water issue. Not enough space so I cannot elaborate. But I agree with you 100% that we have to do something. But we must act responsibly. Protecting our environment is hugely important but so is protecting the livelihood of millions of poor people. We have to come up with solutions that will make our environment more sustainable for future generations, but at the same time we must work to improve social and economic conditions. Like I mentioned before, everything is connected to everything else. All sides must work together for a better future. Thanks once again Mike and keep up the good work!

Hey Mike! I have a question, but i dought that you will answer it cause im probably not that important. Well anyways…. theres something going around that you guys are sueing The Jonas Brothers cause of their new song Pushing Me Away…. and apperently maybe they think that you guys think that its just like your song Pushing Me Away?? I just really wanna know if that is true.

  116. missbluesonicspeed on October 19, 2008 at 6:25 pm

Mike, I think it’s great that you’re trying to answer most of our questions. I’m saying “Thank you!” on behalf of all LP fans out there. Also, I came across this picture at a Christian bookstore in town and thought I’d share. I thought it was funny. Check it out!

    Have a great day! 🙂

  117. murry on October 19, 2008 at 6:18 pm

The first thing: I do the same thing, and a lot of people think I’m weird for it. There are certain bands and authors and actors and directors who I have a standing order to buy anything they put out the day it comes out, just to show my support. Also, I don’t shop at Wal-Mart, if at all possible. And I only buy Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, not just because it’s the most delicious, but because it’s the most philanthropic and organic. There are more cases of my neuroticism, but I have only so little space.

Oh, and one more question, Mike.

I’d really like to know something. What do you think about the West Memphis 3 case?

  120. Keres on October 19, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Personally I think if you like the artist enough the price of their music shouldn’t matter. I always go out and buy the special edition of any new Linkin Park stuff. To me it wouldn’t feel right if I just downloaded it off of itunes for like $10. If a band is really intouch with their fans, like you guys are, then they should become more than just some entity that makes music. A sense of loyality is created and fans will do anything to help the band. So to the fans that really care, prices of ablums, DVDs, etc shouldn’t matter. Oh, and how did you jump into the future cause my computer says its Oct. 19th 🙂

  121. MS_Ineedyou on October 19, 2008 at 5:43 pm

Mike,it might have taken you a while to realize what is going on with that specific topic. Realizing what you are really paying for came to me when i was eight years old.I figured out that when you buy something that it contributes to that place to keep making what they are making.Like Mcdonalds for example,I haven’t eaten there since i was eight because i knew that buying something there was contributing for them to keep selling fattening foods that are making people obese.I don’t want to contribute to that.I mean i’m not like a vegan or a healthfreak but i maintain a normal wieght because i dont contribute to places like Mcdonalds.

  122. Gemilla on October 19, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Also because I am commenting Aim wanted something, you simply listen to a radio program that is broadcast here in Spain, but through its website, you can hear all over the world, the program is called Alma de Leon, is reggae, on Wednesday in Spain was at 4 in the morning in Los Angeles is at 19 hours if you could catch a little of your time … an hour just to listen … The only problem is the language i thik … I suggest you don’t know that, I let you link ok? Many thanks Mike!, If you listen, I hope you like it as much as me.

  123. Gemilla on October 19, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Mike I totally agree with you on the topic of illegal downloads … I’m not in the best position to speak, because I have a lot of music illegally … But all that disclaimer and I see that really worth it, buy it … As all your disks Mike … It is true that you need the fans more than anyone, because we really did not do anything without them, without their help, would have not reached where you are.

  124. michael2g on October 19, 2008 at 5:10 pm

I’d really like to ask you a question, Mike. Last year you guys performed in Russia. I’m from Saint Petersburg, I saw Linkin Park live on June 6th, 2007. It was your first show in Russia.

So…my question is: what can you say about your feelings during the first show in Russia? I mean, I saw Brad’s face, I think that he was a bit shocked – nearly EVERYBODY knew the lyrics of Minutes To Midnight…as well as the lyrics of your previous stuff.

  125. lynndarwinharris on October 19, 2008 at 4:20 pm

I totally agreed with you mike. Some musicians however offer free albums to download off their own sites. However it would be unfair to take advantage of and support somebody and not actually buy when the time comes. I think every musician is entitled to the money they earn. I am just now myself getting started myself with a poetry book, right now though it is hung up in the US copyright office. Will I hand out free copies once I pay to have them published, sure. But once I get (or if I ever get) a well known publisher to take my work, then yes I would want the money that comes along with it. This way I get paid back for all the money I put into the poetry. Take care

  126. Claudio_Rodrigues on October 19, 2008 at 4:16 pm

hey mike! i’m a medicine student, and i see that many of your paintings are about the human body, which i’m really familiar with. it seems like you have some knowledge of the human anatomy! as a professional painter, have you studied a bit of it to have a better perfomance or is it just what you have in your mind? i’d suggest you to check Netter’s atlas of human anatomy, if you haven’t. he was a genius! keep up the good work.

^^° i talk to much sorry for my bad gramma mata ne

  129. Kaeru on October 19, 2008 at 4:10 pm

    hey mike ^^
i would like to say that i have the same opinion. i think donloawd music, movies or what ever is shit because its a non real think you can’t hold it in youre hand. ^^ i like to by CD’s becaus there mostly is a booklet whith a message and a thank you for the fans. maybe its not easy if you like an unknown band but there is a way. every month i go to a music festival with unknown bands, in december one of the unknown bands i like will play on that concert, so im happy to see them live. ok i get the concert tickets for free but there is a merchandis store where i can get the CD’s and a fan-shirt so its my way to get it ^^

  130. Madlen on October 19, 2008 at 4:09 pm

I’m not gonna lie-I’ve downloaded lp songs…but in the same time I have bought all albums…and not to mention all the merchandise(which btw my father is not very happy about:D).I think if you really like a band, like you wrote Mike,if you really respect them and care about them-well you should buy the cd to show your respect of what they’ve done. And btw if I have to use the info from one of your previous entries, bands don’t get much of the money you spent but still when like 12 million people buy your cd you know that you’ve done something special…Btw a little off topic a wanna ask you about the Twilight soundtrack and Leave Out All The Rest being on it?:D

  131. Kirstie on October 19, 2008 at 3:54 pm

With all this talk about music, downloads, stealing etc it makes me wonder what your views are on this evolution of music that’s happening at the moment. With various bands striking out on their own without a label and letting fans choose the amount they pay for music. Are you happy with the current way you get music to your fans or will be finding new cheaper ways for fans to access the music? Are you aware of how much your albums cost around the world? Do you not think in some cases stealing music is the only way fans will be able to access LP? For instance Trent Reznor urging fans to steal his music in Australia when he heard how expensive Year Zero was.

HI Mike i Wanted to ask you a Question and this is my second Time Posting on The Question Was Do you ever Play XboxLive on the Xbox360 and If you do can you send Me your GamerTag to my E-Mail Adress so nobody will know what it is and here’s my E-Mail Dress its Well Bye for now

  133. Squishy_Ho on October 19, 2008 at 3:21 pm

Well since we’re in the fan comments posts, thought i’d ask a question:

Do you think you could give out tips to people who just started painting? Cause it’s my case, i try stuff but i feel it doesn’t work out right. Could you give out “where to start” tips and like do’s and don’ts? Or a book recommendation, cause you seem good in that, too :p

    thanks a lot =)

  134. Doomguy13 on October 19, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Wait… so it’s not b-sides from “Minutes to Midnight” on the new LPU CD? Maybe it’s demos of their new stuff… I don’t know. If possible, could you elaborate a bit Mike?

  135. petiterocker on October 19, 2008 at 3:12 pm

First of all, I want to say (about the spending money on albums and shit) I’ve started doing also around the age of 16, I believe if the artist is really good, I don’t mind spending the money on them because I get something of great quality in return.

Second (this is completely random) maybe you’ve heard about the tv show So You Think You Can Dance? We’ve also got it over here in that tiny little country we call the Netherlands (drop by more often :D) and I think you would love this guy! It’s from the first audition rounds, and the jury features also one of the original American judges.

  137. danielpsoad09 on October 19, 2008 at 2:56 pm

Hey Mike ! It’s amazing to know that the new lpu8 be will be unique. It’s a good thing that you’re hearing your fans =)

I would like you to answer a question :

Is there any minimum chance for you to play here in South America soon? I mean, I know that it wouldn’t be this year, but maybe next year, playing a couple of shows (chile, brasil, argentina) like you did it in Japan back in 2006 for the Summer Sonic fest …
I’m asking because your last ‘WORLD’ tour included every part of the world but not South America, which is sad because you have thousands of fans here…

Cheers from a big fan from Chile.

  138. soyuneik on October 19, 2008 at 2:44 pm

You thought that way at 16 huh..You really are an interesting guy. Piracy is too convenient. When the cassette died, they switched to CDs..When the CD died, they switched to suing dead grandmothers… This is where they made the mistake of going against technologies rise rather then following it. Lets face it its easier skipping through a Cd than waiting for a tape to rewind. Now its easier to download and burn your favorite CD. Unfortunately, that also means its just as easy to steal than it is to buy. The industry will have to hop on the innovative band wagon if it wants to fix this.
What do think? Hardwired protected thumb-drives? What will it be?

  139. YuN_RoCks on October 19, 2008 at 2:42 pm

are there really people who let fans buy tickets for concerts that don’t even exist?! I can’t believe this is really happening. it’s crazy. about the “downloading frominternet”, there would be so much to say. firstly, CDs r TOO expensive. personally it’s been years&years since I bought one, except LP & FM ones. I mean, if artists were REALLY getting what they deserve from sells, I would be happier to buy CDs, though it’s NOT an excuse. I buy tickes for shows glad to do so, but why should I buy a CD for just a track? or why buy one if I’m not even sure I like them? to support what? I trust you, I know you’re great and I’ll spend all my money on you, but on others? hard topics..

  140. faiintx on October 19, 2008 at 2:38 pm

im extremely glad to hear that about chester’s recovery.
i don’t even understand why people would want to steal music…i would MUCH rather hold a full album with the artwork and everything. even if it costs money, it’s definitely worth it.

it’s a really cool/weird thought to know that money that i am paying just might be held in your hand
i definitely want you and the rest of the band to continue to make music for the next 40934368093 centuries, mike!
and also, i have a REALLY random question, but why does chester’s shirt keep changing in the One Step Closer video?

  141. lucky_cat on October 19, 2008 at 2:32 pm

shout-out for your response to ASH_QWERTY ! no more to say …

  142. ninguem on October 19, 2008 at 2:16 pm

mike, seriously? why so much posts in last days? you have a lot of a better things to do like, watch a movie, play tennis, go in academy, in a mall or even sleep (yes i believe which you never sleep)
and about lpu8 they could do one kit without a shirt, or like we can choose what we want on package
i only want the cd and the membership of course, think about this

and about music download, here in brazil we only have stores which sells the music for a pretty expensive value, and is only in wma, in one ipod we can’t listen this kind of file, and the wma in stores is protected, so we can only listen in wmp
and if i really love one cd i wait and buy in store, but is too expensive too

  143. Fishgoingwest on October 19, 2008 at 2:03 pm

To be honest,i have stolen music from Linkin Park online, but I have bought all the cds as well. There’s no itune in China,Minutes to Midnight even hasn’t been brought to China, the ones I got are american edition and european edition. But what about the other fans who don’t have approach to buy the foreign editions? The only way they can get Linkin Park’s music is just download online.I don’t know why Warner Brose hasn’t brought MTM to China, but it’s the fact.

  144. cokiiie on October 19, 2008 at 1:49 pm

    Hi Mike!
I don’t know where to put this question so here it goes: do you come back to Portugal on Rock In Rio 2010? Me and a lot of fans perfer an exclusive concert of Linkin Park and not on some festival. Please come back to Portugal! 😀

  145. QWERTY606 on October 19, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Hey mike, i know that u posted the special limited edtion projekt revolution posters here & i was just wondering…is it possible if u can do the same with the north american tour posters that were releashed during that tour on ur blog? It just came to my mind cause i seen one on the LPTV episode of that tour plus i found another one randomly on google.

  146. ffmuteki9 on October 19, 2008 at 1:27 pm

and you said that Taipei Soccer Stadium is a special place, cause planes would fly through above. the noise of planes is really terrible, but we completely didnt hear the noise through the LP conecert. 40,000 fans shouts beat the planes down!!

so, you dont have any plans or ideas about making hip hop music or what with SOB as Fort Minor?

  147. ffmuteki9 on October 19, 2008 at 1:25 pm

I hope LPU8 tracks would be thoese were finally not be a part of MTM, B-side songs. I think it’s very unique right?

And Mike, MFR are seeking some volunteers in Texas, you guys are going to have show there?

did you feel any different between you came to Taiwan with Fort Minor and with Linkin Park?

I still remember that on the second early morning we had a press conference, you said that you would tell other members the FM show in Taiwan and brought them back. You did it!!

  148. Hybr1d_7h3ory on October 19, 2008 at 1:19 pm

Those were some really great questions, and even better responses. I totally support your opinion on understanding what your money is going to, and thinking critically about how your actions affect other people. I know that you and LP love your jobs, but I doubt that you would be inclined to put in all this hard work to make albums that barely break even. It just kind of sad that we live in a world where people think that it is ok to steal to and rob others of what they deserve without even giving it a seconds thought.

If you wanna talk further I opened a new thread…

  149. ffmuteki9 on October 19, 2008 at 1:07 pm

I cant agree with the last issue no more Mike. You know recently “the melamine event” in China, also in even in Taiwan and other asian countries, is really a disaster.
Those Chinese factories add melamine, definitely not a kind of food additon, into products like milk powder, simply for reducing cost and increasing profit. Those illegal behaviors and factories CANT keep producing that kind of terrible products for themselvs.

Any factort and company has social responsibility, I think it is all the same around the world.

  150. Jaclyn on October 19, 2008 at 1:05 pm

WoW! Thank you Mike ever so much for such posts!
I’d like to support LP with money but I’d rather pay $150 for a live show + $20 for a poster +$20 for a tee +…..btw I paid $100 for Vecel tee =))), than buy a CD for $25 ( that’s the price in Moscow music shop) – it equals the month in internet . I dont know why but that’s the way my mind goes.

Best Wishes for Chester! Let him recover soon and be healthy for the future ❤

  151. Kalini on October 19, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Good responses, Mike! I’d like to add something in regard to the re-prioritizing. We all listen to a lot of artists, of course you can’t buy all their albums, so you have to choose your most favourite ones and support them in their work. I support maybe 5 or 6 artists and all the rest just watch on TV or in youtube. If I really like a song so much and want to have it, just buy it. I can say that I’ve even supported 2 artists for more than 20 years and if they are still releasing albums and touring, it’s because of all the people, who have bought their CD’s through all these years. Downloading music without paying for it doesn’t make any sense. Krassie K.

  152. 2T_LP on October 19, 2008 at 12:48 pm

  155. JNudda on October 19, 2008 at 12:44 pm

Why do you think the last two NIN releases (Slip and Ghosts) have been so popular? Because the fans know that that kind of distribution is the future of music, where your favorite music can be downloaded from the artist’s website at a low cost for high quality files (not saying to give your album out for free, of course that isn’t going to work, but the notion is what counts). I have purchased every Linkin Park and seen you guys live in Auburn, and I know that a band of your size cannot simply transition your business model overnight. But I do hope that you guys really think about it. Releasing the live shows online was a great step in the right direction.

  156. JNudda on October 19, 2008 at 12:43 pm

The music industry is moving onto teh internets, and the record labels will be left in the dust if they don’t change their business model. Instead of suing a single mother for downloading a couple dozen tracks (and then the RIAA not actually forwarding along that money to artists who she stole from), the music industry needs make their product easier to legally obtain for its customers. If people are continually stealing your product, maybe its because your product is much easier to obtain illegally than legally? I (and many people) are more than willing to pay $10 (money which goes directly to the artists, ie NIN) for a 320 kbps mp3 download of my favorite artists album.

  157. Ash_Qwerty on October 19, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Thank you for replying, feel kinda special 🙂
But please don’t think of me as less of a fan, or someone always taking the free option. I only download the tracks i can’t find anywhere else, like Plaster etc.
I agree about the cash going on to support the band, i argued this case to the LPUers complaining about the high price of the Platinum Membership, saying that you’ll more than likely pump the money back into the LPU.
And i do honestly support the band through CDs, gigs etc, to the point were the last CD i bought was SIB (Canadian, just because it had a spelling mistake)
But thank you for replying anyway, the interaction between you and your fans is appreciated 🙂

  158. JNudda on October 19, 2008 at 12:42 pm

Mike, I totally agree that every dollar you spend on a band is a statement. But every time you download a song, it is also a statement. A statement saying you no longer are willing to pay $20 (or $100…nudge nudge. haha.) for a cd knowing only a small fraction of that will actually go towards the band. The music industry still thinks that they can box their customers into only purchasing cds. So instead of making high quality mp3, DRM free albums available at an affordable cost ($10/album maybe?), they seem only content with $1/song, low quality, drm-shackled itunes tracks.

Hi Mike! I am glad that the songs won’t be released on LPU8 cd. Thank you so much for listening to what we’ve said about LPU7. Once on the LPUMB we were talking about having the right to have exclusive stuff when someone told us that in other official fan clubs, fans payed the same and didn’t get any pack, just the online membership. We didn’t have the right to complain about LPU7 because live or not it was an exlusice cd. I guess we’re just not used to have cd’s like LPU7, we’re used to get cd’s with exclusive tracks. That’s you guys fault 😛 Thank you so much for making LPU the best official fan club and for listening to what we have to say. I am happy to know Chester is recovering well 🙂

I COMPLETELY agree with what you said about paying for band merch and paying for albums…and I’m not just saying that I actually do!
I just think if you want a band to do well then you should buy their stuff!
And anyway, I think having the CD is much better than just having it on itunes.
Everyone was pissed at Larz(Metallica)because of the Napster thing but honestly, that site was clearly illegal and not exactly practical…
I always always always buy LP merch and CDs because I want you guys to have the money! And I want you to know I want you to have the money and that I’m supporting you and I love you!
    PS-its the 19th not 20th =p

In regards to downloading music online, from peer to peer networks, I think of it this way. I work just as hard to earn my money as the bands I support do to make the music I enjoy. I figure that if I am going to take my money and buy something, and if I have a chance to preview it first, I am going to do that. I almost always end up actually buying the real CD, but only after I have listened to it for free. There’s only two bands that I currently listen to that I go buy their music without previewing it, because I have never been disappointed in their music.

I agree with you about prioritizing and showing support for what you care about. Most people just do what they do without any care, and its not fair. Every time LP is due to release something or announce something its just too much….! You get us fans so excited, still we hold it in and release our excitement at the shows and when we listen/watch the cd/dvd’s!! Thank your for the responses you give, WE ALL appreciate it! Get well soon Chester! m/

btw are you releasing or working on any new FM?
