Random Notes

October 29, 2008

Here a couple random notes I’m paying attention to right now:

AXIS at SURU – British-American graffiti artist AXIS is holding his first art show at SURU in Los Angeles. The show goes up on Nov. 15th. more info at http://suru-la.com/

Funny “Aside” from http://blackrimglasses.com/: “How to manage a startup in a downturn… How about stop going to so many fucking conferences and stop putting on parties. How about investing in actually starting up a company rather than seeing the same people in different locations every two weeks talking about the same things. Just saying.”

Viva La Hova – just released online; a mixtape by Mick Boogie featuring mashups of Jay-Z and Coldplay songs. Like the Grey Album, but without the Beatles (or like Collision Course, but…). No disrespect though–there are some cool tracks.

MTV Videos – Albeit about 5 years too late, MTV has put their video database online. Now you can search for any video in their collection. Might as well do it online, you’re not going to see any of this stuff on their channel, if you haven’t already watched it on youtube. http://www.mtvmusic.com/

Shouts out to Charlie Bravo and Mr. Hahn for the heads-up.

ugh. I hate MTV. But I checked out the link you provided. “Take Me On”, “Never Gonna Give You Up”, “Welcome To The Jungle.” Those are just some of the videos on the first page.

sigh. I’m back in 80s Heaven. I can literally recall youthful, happy, carefree feelings when I hear that stuff.

Thanks for improving my night a little bit. : )

  2. Garbs_Infinite on November 3, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Whats up, my name is Garbs Infinite. I produced the “Hola Blanco” track off of the Viva La Hova mixtape. Check out more of my music myspace.com/garbsinfinite

Thank you for mentioning the mixtape. Peace!

Take a second, not for anything. Just take a second to read aloud in your mind. Those screams you hear, a mixture of pleasure and fear. Transforming from mechanical flesh to audible tear. When they are for you, know they are not for what they like from your soul. What your mind can ponder crosses the threshold of primordial prisims of vibrato to streams of darkness mixed with light at varied degree’s. You know what their hearts are for, don’t make the mistake to second guess their desire. It is true, they want a piece broken by you off your inspiration, made to convey the future your presented with an oportunity to shape.
I ask that you spread it to those whom ask, because it’s needed.

  4. Madlen on November 1, 2008 at 5:23 pm

well it’s good to know that mtv has something to do with music after all :DI saw Axis’s stuff a few days ago…actually i’ve seen of his paintings before…

  5. Chemist999 on November 1, 2008 at 1:01 pm

Sometimes I wonder if “suru” doesn’t stand for something like “surrealistic.” πŸ™‚ Which is the word that could sometimes describe your art as well.

  6. Alice_K on November 1, 2008 at 2:56 am

    Hey Mike,
I found that hp were you can design a skin for your electronic devices printed on a sticky foil http://designskins.com/, I was wondering if could take ONE OF YOUR PAINTINGS ON MY LAPTOPs LID!!!(?)

I like the littel “SHH”guy the best, actually I like all your stuff… but for daily life (incl. giving scientifc presentations at the university etc), the skull stuff might be a little too morbid … I dont wanna scare people U know πŸ˜‰ anyway, please let me know, if you agree in general (sure, I will not cut off the mikeshinoda.com branding… so my laptpo will become rather an ad for your art in a way, no? πŸ˜‰ WHAT DO YOU THINK?

  7. Rade on October 31, 2008 at 6:52 am

    Hey Mike.
I love reading your blog, it’s always entertaining, informative and makes you think. I’ve seen you 5 times in 4 different countries this year (England, Denmark, Spain and America!), and really wanted to give you this video of a choreography I made for ‘No Roads Left’, but I never got to meet you (I found out about the Champs signing in NY in July the day after, and at the time I was living 20 mins from there).
Anyways, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7CI1_Ue5HI
I hope you will take the time to watch it, your music and performances has inspired me so much for the past 8 years.
    Love from Iris, Denmark

  12. cuz on October 30, 2008 at 6:40 am

Thanks much for the info. I’m just downloading “Viva La Hova”. I like both Jay-Z and Coldplay so much so there’s gonna be a lot of fun. Also, the MTV thing is great–for me especcialy those older videos, back then when I was a little kid…

  13. axrinekey on October 30, 2008 at 6:36 am

Well, all videos in the mtv video website you gave us are all old videos!

That reminds me of a video I saw on TV a week ago.

Fatboy Slim – the old pair of jeans

Just find it really awesome! I mean the guy playing the balls there!

  14. BrazenEntity on October 29, 2008 at 8:38 pm

What kind of person would make thier daughter cheerlead in black shoes? You know WHY they made me do it… I hope you never see my cursed cheerleading picture. Or the talent show gone wrong. After knocking back a few fateful chances to embarrass myself, I’ve got kinetic movement down… I was under a CURSE for missed opportunity when you gave me your jacket and shirt. Some rabbi cornered me by a cell phone store and tried to uh, feel my boobies. He said, ” I just want to see it” when referring to the apple on the shirt. That is the shirt I said I needed to make it all real. But I was under diress… The jacket smelled really good btw… I examined the net lining. I always wanted to say (!).

  15. soyuneik on October 29, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Ironically, I hit up Hahn’s page yesterday and after discovering once more that there was no box to share the Carebear lovin… I clicked his Suru link. That MTV site is definitely worth checking out..Thanks!

edit: ROFL and BrazenEntity wins the prize

  16. ShadowerLiltani on October 29, 2008 at 7:10 pm

Jay Z and Coldplay… Nice variety. Not really stuff that’s a big interest of mine, I’m not really into mixtapes. I will say though, I am very happy about the MTV video archive, because there are a lot of videos I haven’t seen in forever that I want to see. (Not that they can’t already be found on youtube, but at least on the MTV site, they’ll stick around longer).

  17. Illara on October 29, 2008 at 6:36 pm

awesome news! and the arts is just awesome. how i wish to be there for the show. haha, take care mike.

  18. Lvix on October 29, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Mike, i have a question… Actually i am asking this in my head for a while…
    But still didn’t ask you…
When The Linkin Park Street Team gives signed albums…
When and how the signatures has came to the album…

Do they just on a meet and greet they ask you guys:”hey, here for the street team. Just a few signs’
Or is it really like you’re saying:’Hey Chester, today i come bring you an album for a signature for the street team.’

    Just a question i need really answerd.. i can’t sleep:d
maybe stupid question because actually it doesn’t make sence..

  19. Noda89 on October 29, 2008 at 6:14 pm

I honestly forgot MTV still does music videos. Had to go to MTV2 for awhile…oh, and in the last post about he short update, your friend Darren (I think that’s his name…)was talking about Twitter. Twitter is indeed awesome, but Plurk is better!! XD It’s like a timeline blog, but I’m a n3rd so…yar.

  23. isadora on October 29, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Hey Mike, your site is becoming cool! I wanted to know about the launch of the Road To Revolution. You will launch party? Or will launch with night signatures ? I’m sorry for my bad english hahahaha

  24. MarishkaLP on October 29, 2008 at 3:17 pm

thanx for the post, Mike! i’d love to come to SURU to see AXIS’ art show, ’cause i like graffiti, but unfortunately i live in Ukraine, which is far away from LA. But i hope to see pics from this show at http://suru-la.com/ some time later πŸ˜‰
and one more thing, which is VERY IMPORTANT: just saw a post by STINGER_LP, is that true, Mike??? is Chester injured his back besause of his jumps?? and will he jump again?? or no more jumps for him?? if it’s true, than OMG!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT!!! Chester’s jumps were the excitement for LP show and now it’s over?? i can’t imagine Linkin Park show without Chester jumping!!! i’m SO SORRY than…. wish it was not true… 😦

  25. Tytto on October 29, 2008 at 3:09 pm

i know that this comment it’s not related to your post, but this isn’t random at all:
mike, what do you think about the people that say it’s you on the internet?
like in fotolog, facebook and so on? what would you say to all the credulous ppl?

  26. Danielle7777 on October 29, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! MTV is mean to canadians! Every video I click it says “due to copy right restrictions we cant show this video out of the US” or somthing like that! πŸ˜₯ I want to go to your neved art show but i cant #1 because i live waaaaay down in Nova Scotia and #2 I’m 12 and have no say in where we go #3 not enough money! D’: I must have the worst luck!

  27. ninguem on October 29, 2008 at 3:02 pm

  28. Hybr1d_7h3ory on October 29, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Another SUHWEET post/update by Mr. Shinoda. I really wish I could catch all these great shows and openings, but too bad none of them are near Kansas. I am making it out to LA for the GE Dies, Im sooo friggin excited. It is about time MTV allows you yo use their database, even launch.yahoo.com doesn’t have a complete accessible database for you to use. Are you allowed to elaborate on Chester’s quote for a “concept album”?

Im gonna check out those links right now…Hybr1d_7h3ory out

  29. STINGER_LP on October 29, 2008 at 2:30 pm

Mike!!! Sorry for offtopic here, but just need your confirmation of this horrible news http://93x.com/blog.asp?id=957905&SBID=4444
Is it true? Did you really told that on ABC Radio? So, no more jumping for Chester?!

    sorry for offtop once again.

  30. lucky_cat on October 29, 2008 at 2:11 pm

SURU, SURU … wish I could be there … btw I decided to buy your Art Book Package but the store told me itΒ΄s “currently sold out”. Hmm. When will it be available again? Or will you make a new book when Glorious Excess “Died” is over with both in it, “Born” and “Died”? If so I would wait.
And this idea came to me when I saw the Juxtapoz Calendar lately: How about to publish a calendar with your art? Everybody appreciates a good calendar, right?

  31. Kalini on October 29, 2008 at 2:08 pm

Mike, you want me to post 1 comment about 4 topics! Axis – amazing design of the banner! I wish I could visit the show! Unfortunately I live too far away from LA. I like Suru’s site. I’ll be expecting photo’s of the show there. Ethan Kaplan is so right! I have to go constantly to conferences, expo’s and seminars and it’s so boring, such loss of time. We meet the same people, talking about the same things, which we’ve already read in Internet and magazines. We should invest our time and energy in something worth. Coldplay/ Jay-Z – Great! Is someone still watching MTV? There are so many music channels. Well, we can find some cool old videos in its database. Krassie K.

  32. Anika on October 29, 2008 at 2:05 pm

hey Mike,i found a slip out the back – Like toy soldiers (eminem) remix at youtube and i think its awesome! i love it…maybe you want to take a look at this…greetz πŸ˜€ Anika

  33. PheFaint on October 29, 2008 at 2:05 pm

The best Linkin Park’s Italian site has been forced to close…I’m really sad…Mike Do you remember Jom Jom? He was the guy who has brought to you the Xero Tape during the Heineken Jammin Festival 2008…he was the admin of that site…I’m really really sad… 😦

  34. lp_fm_fan on October 29, 2008 at 1:44 pm

    I wish I was in LA…blah.

annnd about the MTV thing: saw most of those already. =P but thanks for posting it! btw, how many “ZOMG Mike you look SO ADORABLE in those videos!!11!” did you get? You so wanted those comments didn’t you? LOL.

  35. RachaelLP on October 29, 2008 at 1:42 pm

That Viva La Hova looks good, clever title aswell.
‘Copyrights restrict us from playing this video outside the US’. Looks like i’ll have to watch Sledgehammer – Peter Gabriel else where then. And i so did want to watch Linkin Park discuss Closer – NIN.

  36. YuN_RoCks on October 29, 2008 at 1:26 pm

ohhh AXIS’ work looks great, I love the little skulls with wings in angel-style XD and the mash-up of Jay and Coldplay seems awesome! I love Coldplay, Viva la vida is a great album and Jay is so talented! thanks for the heads-up guys and thanks Mike for posting! you’re not going so say anything about ‘Barack your world’ for now, aren’t you? okaaaaay, just wondering..! and joking πŸ˜›

  37. KikShCZ on October 29, 2008 at 1:25 pm

  38. Carla on October 29, 2008 at 1:20 pm

I’m laughing over the fact that I saw “Never Gonna Give You Up” as a top rated video on MTV Music. That and “Money For Nothing”. Thanks for the other heads up. I’ll be sure to check them out. πŸ˜€

  39. Phoenix10 on October 29, 2008 at 1:09 pm

thanks for the news.remixes are always good!!!!!

  40. NataliaForgotten on October 29, 2008 at 1:03 pm

Coldplay is one of my favorite bands (I think you know what band is the first one), I love Viva La Vida, the song and the album! Anyway, I’m gonna listen Viva La Hova now. πŸ™‚ (http://www.vivalahova.com/ – They posted about your post, haha!)

  41. rubyred82 on October 29, 2008 at 12:50 pm

Another note of randomness… How come you can’t see people’s comments until you sign in? Just curious, cause sometimes it shows how many comments there are and other times you have to sign in to see them. Don’t know if it’s just me cause usually I’m special like that.

  42. Shinoda77 on October 29, 2008 at 12:49 pm

OMG Mike thank you for that MTV link πŸ˜€ There are sooo cute videos of you&lp in there ^^

  43. SimplyMode on October 29, 2008 at 12:43 pm

haha, I know right, when was the last time you saw a video on MTV!

I personally don’t watch MTV anymore, I just can’t be bothered

    & I only watch the VMA’s & EMA’s when LP is performing/presenting/nominated

…but- I still think it’s cool they’re putting ALL their videos online (:

ps – If you read this could you let me know if LP is gonna be at the EMA’s

coz I really don’t wanna waste my time watching it to watch the the same ol’ people win! …xxx

  44. rockermeg on October 29, 2008 at 12:40 pm

    I agree with TIFFTIFF33LP (:
Wish I could go to the art show…and I really wanna check out The Hahn’s store ):
Interesting–I’m not a fan of Coldplay but I love Jay-Z’s stuff.
O_o you really don’t like MTV huh? Neither, its all good xD
That dude from Warner Bros is random…haha,,random nerd =P
But he’s funny-I agree with his take on RSS feeds (sorry Mike)
You should check out Ardal O’Hanlon (‘Father Ted’ and ‘My Hero’) he’s an irish comedian/actor and he’s hilarious!!
    PS-Just been on Chester’s site;a concept album???That’s dope man I can’t wait

  45. TiffTiff33LP on October 29, 2008 at 12:21 pm

    Randomness is awsomeness!!!!!!^^

  46. tacos_on_tuesday on October 29, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Love the 2nd comment. I work in an indusrty where we have fuckin conferences & Expo’s all the time and I made the fatal mistake to attend one. Holy shit it was like being in a cult like experience. you round up all the people who paid & it is like a cash cow feeding on suckers. No matter what’s your industry- all “industry” people suck. Everyone has that “industry” guy who wears nothing but Gucci or Prada & walks around with the blue tooth in his ear. I want to scream – Hey, FUCK YOU for epitomizing all the negative sterotypes for people in our industry, ASSHOLE.
(Side note this RSS is going to be the death of my career )

  47. eirime on October 29, 2008 at 11:56 am

It’s funny you mention the coldplay Jay Z thing because that was mentioned in a program I was watching last night about Jay Z. I don’t know how that will sound but I might have to check it out when I have time.
