lyrics in print: Hank Jr.

November 1, 2008

excerpts from “McCain-Palin Tradition” by Hank Jr.

…Now this old Union’s got problems That is plain to see

The Democrats bankrupted Fannie Mae N Freddie Mac Just like 1, 2, 3

The bankers didn’t want to make all those bad loans, But Bill Clinton said you got to

Now they want a bail out, what I’m talking about Is a Democrat liberal who doo

John N Sarah tell ya Just what they think

And they’re not gonna blink They don’t have terrorist friends To whom their careers are linked

Yes, John is his own man And Sarah fixed Alaska’s broken condition

They’re gonna go just fine We’re headed for better times

It’s a McCain – Palin tradition

…They all want to know Sarah /Why do you hunt / John why do you fish

How could she be so smart and savvy / such a “hey good-lookin” dish

Yes John is his own man / And Sarah fixed Alaska’s bad condition

They’re going to get it right / We’re going to see the light

It’s a McCain – Palin tradition

excerpts from “Family Tradition” by Hank Jr.

…Country music singers have always been a real close family

but lately some of my kin folks have disowned a few others and me

i guess its because i kinda changed my direction

i guess i went and broke the family tradition

they get on me wanna know Hank, why do you drink?

(Hank) why do you roll smoke?

Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?

over and over everybody made my prediction

so if i get stoned I’m just carryin’ on an old family tradition

…Lordy, I have loved some ladies and I have loved Jim Beam

and they both tried to kill me in 1973

when that doctor asked me Son how did you get in this condition

I said hey sawbones I’m just carryin on an old family tradition!

NICE!! We’ll they’ll just keep on that family tradition and live to regret it. 😀 Or not…shrug

  2. linkingal007 on November 19, 2008 at 10:11 pm

In a Halo-3 HMV of song No Roads Left “You are, all of you, vermins… This is the way the world ends… Chief, you’re telling me what are you doing on that ship… Sir, finishing the fight” >.> Now you tell me, which is more of a ‘nin-com-poop’ “song”?

  3. axrinekey on November 10, 2008 at 12:03 am

Well, if the politicians are using the musician’s musics with or without their permission, I guess that’s wrong…
‘Coz then it’ll be using the musician’s influences too…

  4. ritzifying on November 3, 2008 at 9:49 pm

So what do you think, Mike? Should performers be able to stop politicians from playing music at their rallies? How would you feel if a candidate played LP’s music at a rally without your permission?

On a somewhat unrelated note… Are the five of you on a united front, do you all support the same candidate? (I’d be surprised if you all did) Do you guys ever discuss politics? Between studio time and blogging I’m sure it’s hard to find time! : )

  5. MandoLPU on November 3, 2008 at 9:16 am

Funny ^^. But imagine the Republicans use LP songs during their events. I wouldn’t really like it. Prove me wrong but I think LP wouldn’t be so happy about it either. the parties should at least ask the musicians if they are allowed to play their songs during the parties events. it kinda sucks now. the funniest thing still is the stuff they sing about obama. he was terrorist friends? and maybe he’s even muslim. yeah sure…. WHAT EVER!!! I am not allowed to vote cause I’m not american but pls. vote the right thing people

  6. martinac on November 2, 2008 at 6:24 pm

HAHA! You kno American TV around election time makes me laugh…popcorn for my brain. Obama is black so clearly he knows terrorists…what that isn’t true?…sing it anyway..terrorists, that’ll scare the public and give the rest of the boys down the watering hole a good ole laugh…SIGH! By putting this up Mike isn’t saying he’s supporting McCain. Its up 2 ur interpretation. I think it says more to me that a song about broken families & their tradition of alcoholism being the theme music speaks volumes. Do they even listen to music? Plus no-body should b allowed 2 use songs without artist permission MARTINACXXX

Wow. That really pissed me off.

Sorry, this chick is a democrat.

  8. PankakeMunky on November 2, 2008 at 4:54 pm

i have to say, hank jr. really changed his song a lot. i don’t know what to say since the mccain-palin tradition version just sounds way too family-ish friendly compared to the original family tradition song. honestly, i don’t really see how there will be a mccain-palin tradition that hank jr. described. but hey, whatever works to support your favorite canidates and not get sued if that song is used at the debates

  9. Lee on November 2, 2008 at 4:31 pm

You know who has strange lyrics? Weezer. Especially their song “Pork and Beans,” it really makes no sense at all. XD Look it up, you’ll probably laugh your ass off.

  10. Rez on November 2, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Hey Mike. The biggest problem I have with Republicans is that they almost all the time contradict themselves. Often when I’m talking with a Republican friend or associate of mine, I find them contradicting themselves more than once in a span of minute or two. When you don’t have a firm grasp of history and tend to “create” your own version, you are going to get a segment of the population who have no idea what they are doing or talking about. Once again I”m not making fun of the party, afterall this is the party of Abe Lincoln, but I think Abe must be rolling in his grave (if such a thing is possible) after watching his party become the ugly thing it has become.

Hey, beside that it’s hard to hear the lyrics, the song is preatty cool! I’m not US kid but I’m really interested in the election, what will America choose.

How’s Glorious Excess (Dies) going? Maybe some note? And maybe some photos? How do you think? Would be so nice 🙂 Take care.

  16. rockermeg on November 2, 2008 at 6:12 am

I love the combination of music, politics and environmental concerns in this post.
Did you hear about the Canadian comedian who prank-called Palin during a Radio show pretending to be Nicholas Sarkozy?
O_O and everyone over here is talking about the Russel Brand/Jonathon Ross prank-call to the guy who played Manuel in ‘Fawlty Towers’…even though what they did was wrong,,I hate all the publicity its getting. Russel Brand is one weird guy but he’s hilarious!! I don’t know why people don’t like him…
And Jonathan Ross is the biggest person on the BBC…they’ll never get rid of him

  17. BrazenEntity on November 2, 2008 at 1:47 am

Shpeakin’ of politics, I went to see W with Fred. Heh, you can see the freaking arrow going through him, though… I wear a collar now…I have the curse on the inside of my wrist, and the “wierdest” thing is, is that my “purpose” rune (which looks like an hourglass) has developed a thick line on the bottom of it. You know, I WAS on life support 2 months ago… Almost had brain damage… It was like a big fucking dream. These past 10 years have been, one big fucking bad dream. I took the pain in the name of Buddhism. you did too?? I can’t pay my light bill. 😀 Montisha Spriggs is really cool. I like, love her, man. I covered up some Asian porn today. Goody. I bought a fake chainsaw for A.

Hey Mike! Funny video about the “excelent” campaing from McCain.

    Are you a democrat?

  22. Leilu14 on November 1, 2008 at 8:40 pm

democrats and republicans have millions of dollars at their disposal to use for the advancement of their party.
simple solution, PAY someone who supports you to write a song to use throughout the campagn as “theme music”.

  23. MS_Ineedyou on November 1, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Wow. Thats REALLY stupid. I hate Mccain. I HATE PALIN WAY MORE ! That really pisses me off that they would just use somebody’s song to provoke people to vote for them. I mean the ‘Survivors’ made that song for thier own personal reason. NOT FOR MCCAIN AND PALINS ELECTION. I mean, serioulsy, Mike…… wouldn’t you be kinda mad if they used like ……… i can’t think of one that would really relate to this issue 😛 But wouldn’t you be mad if they just used like a Fort Minor song ? or a Linkin Park song ? I mean if you’re a Mccain supporter, then you probably wouldn’t really care …… But if you’re not, then wouldn’t it be maddening ??? Thats just my point if view though. Bye Mike ! 🙂

  24. withyou on November 1, 2008 at 6:24 pm

So Obama knew someone who turned into a terrorist, Im pretty sure McCain knows someone who was in the kkk and last I checked they sure as hell aren’t saints so what the f$%k is their point?? they’re not going to get anywhere by pointing the finger when they don’t have a squeaky clean image either because for one thing, McCain would if you got to look at his family tree, have a lot kkk members so stop the BS. Just refering to the They donn’t have terrorist friends

  25. zimminator on November 1, 2008 at 5:58 pm

excuse me a minute while i go PUKE in the corner. god they shouldnt use their music unless they get Permission. stupid mccain. and that song is even worse. MORE VOMITTING lol

  26. Madlen on November 1, 2008 at 5:36 pm

This is weird and interesting to me cause i don’t live in the us and i don’t think we have that big noise around the elections.I mean it is a big deal but not as big as this…oh btw i found some lyrics that i think you might like for the lyrics in print section:

  27. Zach on November 1, 2008 at 4:47 pm

WOW. Fuck that. I hate McCain. Anyways, I don’t think politicians should EVER be allowed to use music in their campaigns. That really bothers me because a song is supposed to be open and interpreted however the person wants it to be. Using it to promote and basically use as a ”Vote McCain” song is not doing that. Not that I’m for Obama either though, I’m not for anyone in this election to be honest. If I absolutely had to pick a candidate it would be Obama though. My Mom’s a teacher and I really wouldn’t want her to lose her job, nor me have to fight in a war that I see absolutely no point in. I would rather shoot myself in the fucking head before fight in the war in Iraq.

  28. Noda89 on November 1, 2008 at 2:03 pm

I think that even if muscicians want to support Obama/McCain, they shouldn’t express their opinion through songs. It’s one thing talking about it, but putting it in lyrics makes it weird. And then their fans will vote for that candidate ONLY because “Omg, guess who Amy Lee is voting for! I’m gonna vote for him too!!” (just an example) It’s sad, really. Honestly, if you or Chester, or anyone else from LP stated on LPU or something about which candidate they support, EVERY LP fan in the US will vote for them. I’m not saying it’s an extremly bad thing, but people should vote based upon their beliefs and not just to follow a celeb they adore. Oh, RDE, those shoes are BANGIN!

  29. Hybr1d_7h3ory on November 1, 2008 at 1:55 pm

That was just an all around good time. How about I re-write the words to an LP song for these political times we live in right now… I’ve at least got the chorus down. Just sing the chorus part of “Crawling” to these lyrics.

    Palin is hotter than Biden,
    McCain he can not win,
    Barrack is endorsed,
    By more electoral college votes

  31. Chemist999 on November 1, 2008 at 12:53 pm

I guess it says something about who supports the other camp. 😉 But I’ve never been into this “let’s support someone because we’re famous” thing. If artists really wish to support particular politician because they agree with his ideas, and they want to do that because they know their voice is going to be heard, and they’re not doing it because they hope their fans are going to be influenced, fine. But in fact (and in my country), many of these celebrities are paid by lobby groups controlled by political parties, just to amass their fans’s votes and get their cash, though they don’t give a damn about their policies at all. Judging from this, Republican treasury must be totally empty. 🙂

  32. AshleyDawn on November 1, 2008 at 12:49 pm

Geez, of course the guy whose concert I was already ashamed to be conceived at. 😦
Thanks for making me like my parent’s music a little less, ha.

Note to all: never look through your baby book and ask questions, you will learn way more than you ever intended to. 😛

  33. pepper on November 1, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Oh goodness, what’s with all the pop culture getting so involved with politics? I don’t know how I feel about that, I mean everyone has free speech and they’re all just using the pedestal we, the fans, have given them to endorse their political opinions but… with pop culture… idk I wish politics could just stay politics, nothing else. That song is a bit obnoxious and NO WAY should candidates be able to use artist’s songs for their campeighn and affiliating them with themselves without the artists permission. How would you feel Mike if they used LP or FM without consent? or even some of your artwork? Its essentially the same idea. Not very happy, I’d venture. w/o permission, it’s stealing

  34. Kalini on November 1, 2008 at 12:42 pm

Mike, thanks for posting the video of Douglas Caballero’s TV show. I didn’d know that so many artists were involved in the current presidential campaign. I can’t believe that McCain is using even “Eye Of The Tiger”. I liked the comment of Gretchen Peters. She is absolutely right. I don’t know what to say about the lyrics of Hank Jr.: “The bankers didn’t want to make all those bad loans, But Bill Clinton said you got to”; “They all want to know Sarah /Why do you hunt / John why do you fish”; “How could she be so smart and savvy / such a “hey good-lookin” dish”. The song is ridiculous! Krassie K.

  35. rde on November 1, 2008 at 12:33 pm

    This is ridiculous 😀

And Mike I know you hate flooding and that kind of stuff, but I know you LOVE sneakers and I just want you to see my new cool sneakers. Maybe seeing your own face in some crazy fans sneaker could bring you a little joy! ;)) So here it is :

  38. murry on November 1, 2008 at 11:45 am

I had no idea this song existed, but I saw Hank Jr. at a rally with McCain and Schwarzenegger and Lindsey Graham, and I was like, “Ooh, I’ll vote for whomever Hank Jr., that old drunk, is endorsing.” Obama has Jay-Z and Wyclef and The Roots and James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi and even Toby Keith, for god’s sake, but you betcha, McCain has Hank Jr. and those biggoted assholes in Big and Rich, or whatever. So, he’s doing just fine with the Hollywood types. Pfft. Not that celebrity endorsers should matter. But still… It’s pretty funny.
