Lost In Translation 2

November 16, 2008

I think my “lost intranslation” photos got “lost in Sparkart’s server,” so I added them again…and added a few new ones. They’re here:

  1. twilight_LP on September 20, 2009 at 9:05 pm

WTF:) Go Gay?? I’d rather not…
By the way, did you take the ‘Collon Cream/Colon Cream’ picture in Japan or something? Because I’ve seen those things everywhere- supermarkets, convenience stores, you name it. I even saw it when I went to LP’s Tokyo show this year. I walked into a nearby convenience store to get some onigiri , and the first thing I saw when I went in was Collon Creams…:( They are taking over Japan, haha.

  2. Ace on April 9, 2009 at 3:08 am

  4. CherryRed on November 25, 2008 at 11:41 am

Funny! Did you see this one? Talk about WTF???
    The ‘Modern Toilet’ eatery:
Modern Toilet is a Taipei restaurant. It accommodates 100 seats with each made from toilet bowls.
The specialties at the restaurant accompany sink faucets and gender-coded ‘WC’ signs that appear on the three-story structure.
The food is served in mini plastic toilet bowls. The toilet rolls that serve for wiping hand and mouth are hung above the tables,
which may resemble glass-topped jumbo bathtubs.

Those german snacks are awsome! We’ve got them here in the Netherlands as well. They used to be called “Neger zoenen”, in germany “Neger kusse” but it was too racial (since it means negro kisses) so now they’re called just “Zoenen” or “Kusse” which means kisses. XD random I know… but I love lost in translation! I’ve been to so many country’s somethings get a little predicatble tho…

  11. kUmiKo on November 18, 2008 at 1:27 am

    you know what?
“collon” comes from “column”. they explain so.

  12. asianotter on November 17, 2008 at 8:39 pm

  13. Ezza on November 17, 2008 at 3:45 pm

honnestly i totally missed how the australian construction company was funny…probally something to do with living in australia and knowing that hooker and cockram are really common surnames :)…maybe its just me XD i’d take a photo of a road name where i live cept i cant because ppl keep stealing it the road name is wenkies Rd but it is so close to wankers that ppl seem to take the sign or correct the spelling XD consiquently i cant take a photo because at the moment its missing, again!

  17. traveller on November 17, 2008 at 10:40 am

Great pics! There are so many of those around the world! Here is a couple of more for you. There is a sour cream sort in Germany, called “Dickmilch” (translation – thick milk). Sorry, don’t have a pic, would get into trouble with my friend for posting it. In London, there is a metro underground station called Cockfosters. American tourists just love to take pics of it πŸ™‚

  29. sassi_lp on November 16, 2008 at 11:39 pm

The German snack had to be renamed btw, everyone called them Niggerkisses, thought it was racist so now they’re literally “fat guys”. RIGHT!

  30. nikkiann0100 on November 16, 2008 at 8:13 pm

wow, those are really great. Was the english dry cleaner in la or did you take that while you were on tour? Thats funny. The colon creme is pretty good too.

  31. BoC on November 16, 2008 at 8:06 pm

XD. Oh man. I loved the “colon cream” one. That’s just priceless.

  32. ShadowerLiltani on November 16, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Some of those I haven’t seen, the Go Gay was especially funny. It’s hard to tell if they mean “Go Happy” or “Go Homosexual” (not that there’s anything wrong with that… I like Seinfeld). God, and the oak leaf. I’m not gonna say what body part I think it looks like, but, I think Mike, you know what I’m talking about.

  33. ThePrincess on November 16, 2008 at 6:08 pm

  44. EpilepticChickenScratch on November 16, 2008 at 3:37 pm

LMFAO, the best ones were “in4dong” and “colon cream.” There’s this sign here in Evansville, Indiana that made me laugh SO hard. It’s for a Chinese restaurant. It says, “No, we no see cat of yours. No more ask please.” I was driving down the road with my friend and we saw that. We almost wrecked the car.

    EDIT:: Here’s the pic. http://www.jokesunlimited.com/jokepics/1341.jpg

  45. Carla on November 16, 2008 at 3:36 pm

I still can’t get over the Thin Ho Association. That and the Wonderful Korea postcard. Whenever I see the NYC pic, I immediately think De La Soul or something similar. That, or “sweet hair!” I love these.

  46. fallsogracefully on November 16, 2008 at 3:32 pm

I once saw a sign for a National Geographic exhibit about pirates.
Here’s the website that was listed prominently on the ad:

I’m not sure what a “hibit” is, but if its anything like a “habit,” I’m wondering if they are providing viewing material or counseling…

  47. Cyn_DarthYak on November 16, 2008 at 3:29 pm

I like that you left the “leaf” for last.

  48. flyingr on November 16, 2008 at 3:06 pm

everytime i eat a super dickmann i think about your lost in translation.
    keep posting…

  49. tpbarbosa on November 16, 2008 at 2:58 pm

lmao!!! I so loved those photos
ahaha I think the best was “English Dry Cleaner?”
WTH means Go Gay there? :p:p
lmao And worst, what’s with that little boy pointing a gun to his sister face, and the poster says: Wonderful Korea? That made me laugh so much!! :p

  50. Shinoda77 on November 16, 2008 at 2:53 pm
