hey, this is really cool… that such an simple picture without a lot objects on it can say so many words without pronouncing them is awesome😛 the closer you look the more expressions you´ll see…

  2. dessertstealer on January 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm

This is so beautiful………. i wonder what it means. It would be really cool to understand the meaning of all paintings but I guess it leaves a challenge and makes it more interesting somehow. Besides, the mystery allows people to relate to it in different ways.

  3. Lucifer_Mitchell on December 28, 2008 at 2:53 pm

geez, these are brilliant works of art, they’re exceptional. My favorites have to be the bubbles one, then the girl with the bleeding eyes and flower in her hair.
    🙂

    MS you have good taste

    have a nice day

  12. Jen1983 on December 11, 2008 at 3:46 am

Awesome painting. It brings a whole new meaning to the word “surrealism”. In a good way, though.

  13. rocksylvie on December 11, 2008 at 2:07 am

Ryden seems to be a very talented artist but this painting makes me feel sick! I don’t like it!

  14. linkinladie328 on December 10, 2008 at 11:29 pm

Wow! These aretruly amazing! I heard you mention Mark Ryden before. He is incredible! Thanks for sharing.

  18. Philly_Willy on December 10, 2008 at 3:49 pm

He seems like a great artist and all but there was no controversy over a painting of a nude child?

  19. cuz on December 10, 2008 at 2:53 pm

Interesting. I like how the white changes into the red on her cheeks.

  20. Madlen on December 10, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Wow that girl really reminds me of one of my schoolmates-the same ice queen look.Anyway have you ever collaborated with him?

  21. rockermeg on December 10, 2008 at 11:39 am

    That’s…disturbing
Don’t get me wrong,he’s really talented and the pieces are really really good…but they’re a bit disturbing

  22. NeneLP88 on December 10, 2008 at 11:06 am

Thank you for letting me know this artist.🙂

Man, the girl’s eyes kill. They’re so cold, beautiful and deep.

And the idea of painting in the bubbles is really nice. Great job Mark Ryden!

  23. skindesbous on December 10, 2008 at 10:56 am

    I really like it🙂

  24. Kalini on December 10, 2008 at 10:44 am

I can see now why you have inspirational art on the walls of your studio. You get inspired while watching it. Mark Ryden is an incredibly good painter, he is excellent in details, but that art is somehow a little bit cold. I don’t know if I only feel it. Anyway, I wish him good luck in Tokyo! KK

  26. WolfRaptor on December 10, 2008 at 10:22 am

I actually can’t see the pictures, because my company filter is blocking them at the moment. I’m always curious about YOUR art though, Mike. Why don’t we see more of it through Linkin Park? Do you like to keep them separated for a reason? I was looking back at the older albums (HTEP, HT) and looking at the covers. They really seem to mesh really well, the older songs and their album art, whereas in later releases like Meteora and MtM the feeling is quite different (FM aside, that cover was cool). Can you give a little explanation as to how you choose/develop cover and album art?

  27. samira on December 10, 2008 at 9:08 am

    I like naked painting

  28. Ana_ on December 10, 2008 at 6:53 am

It’s really a pretty picture! Did not know this artist… He uses different types of images ..
It is an intense and detailed work … I liked it!🙂

  29. Gabry94LinkinParkfan23 on December 10, 2008 at 6:53 am

i dont like naked pantings, Mike. but thery are not so bad. but that girl had something that scared me xD byeee x

  30. Lynnie on December 10, 2008 at 6:32 am

Something disturbs me about this picture… I think it has something to do with the girl looking so young – even if she’s not meant to look that young.
    It’s very well done… I just don’t like it.
    ~
linkinladie328: Again – quit it! There seems to be only you who is still interested. Seriously, it’s boring now.
    ~
Edit -> can people not contact me through my profile and rag on my comment? This is my honest opinion… I’m allowing you to have yours, aren’t I? =(

  31. Hybr1d_7h3ory on December 10, 2008 at 6:17 am

This piece of art is a complete rendition of Mmm..Cookies isn’t it? Bubbles, jellyfish, it has to be!!!

No wonder why Chester wants to be a bubble sooo bad

  32. zahra on December 10, 2008 at 4:35 am

okay …i need to be true i dont like naked paintings….jeeeeeeeeezz its not right!!!!

  33. Chemist999 on December 10, 2008 at 4:17 am

Hmm… now matter how long I stare on this painting, it just can’t grow on me. Something about it is just so random, and those images trapped in the bubbles… are they feelings, desires, or what? Maybe it’s because of that doll; if the person producing bubbles was more realistic, I could relate to it somehow, but that empty stare makes me wonder if it has any sense at all, or if it’s only a random set of images from his mind.

  34. AnkeNL on December 10, 2008 at 4:15 am

    woooaah I’m stunded.

  35. AS_21 on December 10, 2008 at 3:38 am

wooaah… haven’t you already posted some of his art? I really admire Mark. I love the faces he’s making😉 and all these ideas!! love it! the details are soo amazing!

  36. LPfeather on December 10, 2008 at 3:08 am

wow, flying ovums! i love the concept xD
And this mellow grey looks pretty warm (you know, the warm of winter. This grey also reminds me the snow)

  37. ms_shock on December 10, 2008 at 1:01 am

    Bubbles…. Jellyfish….. Hahaa xD
Anyway, it’s amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it. It’s like the snow in here…. In Siberia….

  38. Hawaii_LP_fan on December 10, 2008 at 12:05 am

Mr. Ryden’s attention to detail is amazing. This piece has an “ethereal” quality which makes the title befitting. Doesn’t her eyes seem to look right into your soul? After all, the “eyes are the windows to your soul”. Lots of symbolism here, birth, aging (the ginseng root for memory & physical rejuvenation), jellyfish symbolism could signify going with the flow & taking you wherever life takes you. As the current takes the jellyfish wherever the current goes & death (skull). I know Mr. Ryden loves to illustrate imaginary & nostalgia images in his works of art. Are you going to visit his exhibition in Japan? His “yuki” creation will probably be amazing. Thanks for sharing art you love. :o)

  39. miKer0cks on December 10, 2008 at 12:02 am

Wow!!! That guy is really good🙂 I like the second one the best🙂 O.o btw what’s going on with your art show ”Glorious Excess Dies” ? I’m really looking forward to it🙂

  40. JadeGirl on December 9, 2008 at 11:15 pm

Dude, what happened with SOB. Seems they are off from Machineshop. (I know this doesn’t concern the article.)

  41. alyeska39 on December 9, 2008 at 10:50 pm

That is incredible. I know you’ve talked about him before because I recognize the style, but this one is amazing and I love it. Not that I didn’t like his other stuff you’ve shown us. He’s quickly climbing into my favorites.

  42. lp_fm_fan on December 9, 2008 at 9:55 pm

    Interesting. I love the detail.

  43. murry on December 9, 2008 at 8:57 pm

That’s… disturbing. There’s so much of the pop surrealism movement that I’m not a fan of. A lot of it is really cool, but I’ve never liked Mark Ryden. I think it’s because of the creepy doll faces. I see what he’s trying to do. I get it. I just can’t get past the faces.

  44. Trenskinoda on December 9, 2008 at 7:54 pm

I was watching a show on TV a year ago about tattoos and I saw one of the artists use a Mark Ryder painting (Rose) as a design. It was a special request by the customer. Since then I wanted to know more about his art. Unfortunately I was not able to catch the artist’s name. I’m sure that his name was mentioned several times but I was too concentrated on how the tattoo looked like ( I love art in any shape or form – I’m just so bad with names….I consider walking around the MET a holiday) I’m so glad that his art work is so distinct that when I saw this painting I immediately knew it was what I was looking for. Thanks Mike!

  45. Illara on December 9, 2008 at 7:07 pm

    awesome painting very detailed!

    thanks for sharing, Mike.🙂

  46. Ranger111133 on December 9, 2008 at 7:01 pm

nice painting lol also i love the new songs on the new LPU CD…..i’m definetly going to get it for christmas. i think its hillarous to see an awsome hard core band like Linkin park put out a completely hillarous album. I bet your getting a lot of negative feedback on the album but I think its a great cd from listening to my friend’s. i hope a ton of people buy it and thanks for making a completely laid back funny album. i heard 26 letters in da aphabet and I immediatly thought u probably came up with most of the album lol

  47. ThePrincess on December 9, 2008 at 6:54 pm

YOU KIDDING ME !! he was my fav painter too i think he’s an Amazing, Mind-Blowing, Awe-Inspiring painter..Here’s this was one of my fav paintings..a serenade to the long-legged, high-kicking non-domestic Goddess standing in the background..JustTheGirls by MarkRyden

very coloured, detail and beautiful.. after his silkscreen print entitled “Silence” I think “The Snow Yak Show” is the next masterpiece of him.. indeed !

PS : I read his book titled “The Upset” and i recommended to you…that was a brilliant Book ever..

    PRINCESS

  48. lynndarwinharris on December 9, 2008 at 6:16 pm

So much detail. wonderful piece. I checked out his web site very talented artist. Thank you for sharing🙂

  49. Paulett on December 9, 2008 at 6:10 pm

Her face gives me a feeling of tranquility, really beautiful🙂

  50. Melissa on December 9, 2008 at 6:00 pm

She’s really quite stunning. All of his paintings are beautiful, though a few make me feel a little sad, especially Nurse Sue which is probably my favourite. I admire the messages he’s putting across in The Tree Show. In saying that, being a vegetarian, The Meat Show freaks me out slightly but he still makes the paintings pretty enough for me to not feel squeamish… much.

  51. Brittney on December 9, 2008 at 5:56 pm

I wish my artwork was bubbles.
On a serious note, I love the detail in the eyes of the little girl. Beautiful.

  52. Metal_Value on December 9, 2008 at 5:56 pm

I like the detail that’s gone into it, but I don’t exactly understand the concept of it like what it’s supposed to mean.. Though I suppose that’s what alot of art’s about, taking things from it that you see, and most people take away differant thoughts than others… Much like music really, I reckon music and art are quite simalar in terms of how the human mind views them. Though one’s sound and one’s visual they can both exert differant emotions depending how the artist composes it (Ha, even the name that you use to refer both figures is the same “Artist” =P) I guess I look at this and see that life’s full of strange things, and can be born from anything ever.

    Take it steady mate. Peace

  53. ShadowerLiltani on December 9, 2008 at 5:41 pm

Um… okay… she has a bubble on her crotch. Lucky bubble. I’m sorry but these paintings are kind of random almost… I think my favorite “bubble” is the tree. Not the one with the fetis growing into/out of it, the other tree. Oh, and, JELLYFISH!!! Jellies are cool, especially pink ones. Edit: This sort of reminds me of when someone passes gas while taking a bath. I’m sorry, I know you like this artist but I just can’t take it seriously. (Even after having painted live nudes… how sad is that?)

  54. Giffy on December 9, 2008 at 5:41 pm

looks like ‘BUBBLES’ & ‘SKULL’ attractive to u huh? xD btw, take care urself too

  55. karolp on December 9, 2008 at 5:31 pm

mike, this man is really good !! bye bye ;* kisses from Brazil

    Carol

  56. burningdaylight on December 9, 2008 at 5:23 pm

i’m the 4th and….is this supposed to be some sort of social commentary on femininity or sexuality or something? the only reason i ask is because of the images in the bubbles and…where the bubbles are coming from. and the fact that the girl in the picture is nude. just a thought….

  57. BeautifulSeraph on December 9, 2008 at 5:21 pm

That’s really an interesting painting. I would love to see more of his work. I will have to go search on Google. Thanks for sharing.

  58. Paula_ShinodaLover on December 9, 2008 at 5:16 pm

hey Mike i love the art, but he isn´t my favorite painter, becuase you´re my favorite painter .. the art of him is amazing, I think it has a great perspective of the world, and anyone who see his art, you can capture great realities of the world
