Lol😀 How awesome! Cypress hill rooles xD
    – I’ve actually always wondered if you ever wanted to be in YO! Mtv raps? ..

  2. lynndarwinharris on December 20, 2008 at 5:02 pm

I didn’t know you could play the harmonica! Can’t wait for the new Cypress Hill album to be released! I will be watching for it. Thanks for giving us the heads up!!

  3. Rockeiraa on December 19, 2008 at 4:11 pm

”Back in 1991, I saw Cypress Hill’s “How I Could Just Kill A Man” on YO! MTV Raps, and was instantly hooked. I asked for the CD for Xmas, but my mom saw the song titles (“Pigs,” “Hole In The Head,” “Light Another”) and decided that I shouldn’t be listening to lyrics like those.” –

Mike, what your mother let you hear when you were younger?

Congratulations on your work, if possible, come to Brazil.

  4. WolfRaptor on December 19, 2008 at 8:34 am

Hey Mike, it’s Wolfraptor again…not sure if this is the best place to put this but it’s listed as “recommended music” so here goes. I’m taking it upon myself to promote an unknown band as best I can…they are Bulletproof Messenger, and their sound is kinda comparable to your older stuff (without rapping). Their following is pretty small right now (they email you back personally within 5 minutes), so if you take a listen and like their stuff, maybe you could post a link or something in a future blog? If Mike Shinoda likes them I think they will get a lot more popular pretty quickly; they’re rated quite high among people who have actually heard of them. Thanks! I’ll put this on LPMB too.

I love Cypress Hill. So you know I loved PR 2002…ah but I just realize I probably never told you I love LP.
I guess I assumed that should be obvious… I don’t know, people come up to me and compliment me in ways I’ve never
even imagined. When this occurs, I feel really awkward. But, I guess your probably use to it by now? Anyways, I can wait to hear this.

  6. ThePrincess on December 18, 2008 at 6:53 pm

“Pigs,” “Hole In The Head,” “Light Another” and “How I Could Just Kill A Man” !!! for the Xmas gift ? SERIOUSLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU ? I agreed with your mom..i see the title of their song was totally scary and dark ..although we all know that Cypress Hill’s was an AWESOME GREAT BAND ..but it still ! …I’m glad you help them making their new album but please would you tell them to using “ A NORMAL WORD “ especially for the title song.. ( I think they have a teenage fans right ? )

  7. pollawec on December 18, 2008 at 3:37 pm

This is dope news, I reckon the track is gonna be blazing, surely with the energy experienced in the studio with the Cypress Hill crew would contribute inspiration to create another Fort Minor record Mike? A second Fort Minor record with artists such as Pharoahe Monch, 4 Zone, Apathy and Celph Titled would be ill. How did this collab materialise? P.S B-Real is one skinny dude in this video, lol, however, he still remains the king of the one handed reverse roll (which incidentally is some ill shit)

  8. YuN_RoCks on December 18, 2008 at 12:21 pm

so it’s true that Mike Shinoda was just a normal kid as everyone else! these little stories about your life are great😀 and I’m proud of your work, I’m sure Cypress are feeling cool to have a track from you on their next album!

  9. LPfeather on December 18, 2008 at 11:51 am

Dooood!!! OMG i’m so happy xD. I’m a huge fan of Cypress. I got all their albums and shit!
I’M FUCKING GLAD TO HEAR THAT, MIKE.
And are you serious when you say that you don’t have their first album? Man, you disappoint me a lot _
And i’m also glad to hear that you can play harmonica xD, didn’t know that. I love this intrument for real.

A lot of things made my day today and sorry for my hyper excitement. xD
    Peace.

  10. Madlen on December 18, 2008 at 11:38 am

Hah I definitely think my mom would react the same:DAnyway I’m looking forward to the new album so I could hear the song:DIt must be really cool to work with someone you’re a fan of?:D

  11. AS_21 on December 18, 2008 at 11:15 am

OMG! that’s a part of my childhood! I’ve been listening to Cypress with my brother! I love the music, lyrics and everything! yeah. I think if your mum had seen the “Skulls and Bones”. She would ask you to stop listening to music xD but anyway great to know you’ve made music for Them!😉 for real. thank you

  12. rockermeg on December 18, 2008 at 11:11 am

Heh their lyrics are quite bad but it’s nothing compared to some songs or movies out there right now…I guess things were different back then
Cypress Hill are AMAZING!!!! Their music is so original and old-school it’s so catchy and awesome!!
I can’t wait to hear that song
I love ‘Light Another’ it’s their best song in my opinion.
    xxx

  13. miKer0cks on December 18, 2008 at 11:09 am

Hahahaha…I like your mom…Actually when I was 10 years old, back in 2003, I wanted to buy ”Meteora” but my mom wouldn’t let me cause she thought that it was too early for me to listen to this kind of music (I tottaly hated her back then :P) Luclily my dad, who’s really a big fan of yours, pulled me into the LP world (thank god there’s someone in my family who knows what good music sounds like) and he convinced my mom to buy me the cd!!! I was so happy🙂 Now, even my mom loves LP and her fave song is ”Leave out all the rest” and….”Lying from you”!!! yeah a somg from ”Meteora”🙂 Isnt that cool?🙂 Anyway love the song is really awesome like every song you write🙂

  14. skindesbous on December 18, 2008 at 9:39 am

“sabes lo que te digo?”😀 I love your mom haha

  15. Lvix on December 18, 2008 at 9:14 am

Great Mike, however i never liked this band because the song titles:”Pigs,” “Hole In The Head,” “Light Another”
So your mom was so right!:p

  16. Gabry94LinkinParkfan23 on December 18, 2008 at 7:30 am

  17. cuz on December 18, 2008 at 7:11 am

I heard about that a while ago. I’m so excited for the track! You’re so talented and Cypress Hill are so cool. The song will be a killer, for sure! Thanks for an inside view to the song. Have a nice day🙂

  18. Hybr1d_7h3ory on December 18, 2008 at 6:41 am

Do I smell the next Timbaland in our midst?!

  19. maria on December 18, 2008 at 1:22 am

I like Cypress Hill Mike, and it’s comes from a Valley of Chrome (I mean the verse of it). Have you heard it? Nobody told me that I shouldn’t listen to lyrics like those. Maybe because I wasn’t so anxious to get them as soon as posible )).
the description of your work with B-Real and Sen is rather positive. I hope that it’s going to be a great success. And could you be so kind to post here the photo of mellotron? I just want to see how it looks like. Thanks anyway.

  20. Mikado on December 17, 2008 at 11:23 pm

    I like the song!
I guess it´s a kind of how everybody takes the lyrics of a song. I mean, I can hear or watch EVERYTHING without runing amok directly. It´s the same with german-lyrics like Oomph! or Rammstein!. One day my girlfriends partner said to her “you shouldn´t be listening to lyrics like those”, too, as she was listening to some Oomph! songs.( Oomph! are her favourite band.
I escort her to one concert. But we´re still normal…ha,ha,ha)
And I do not know a lot of Cypress Hill song but I really like “(Rock) Superstar” and “What´s your number”.
( Sorry, I´m not so good in english, but I was trying my best.)
    Take care.
    Mikado (aka “Hermine”)

  21. Dori on December 17, 2008 at 11:15 pm

hahaha My mom was like that with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony…. I’ve been a fan since I was 13!

Didn’t Rage Against the Machine do a cover of Kill a Man, or is that a completely different song?

Also, I posted in the Suggestion Box thread, but I don’t have a direct link. Sorry. It should be on the last, or second to last page on there. I’m Dorito….

  22. nillp on December 17, 2008 at 9:55 pm

“I shouldn’t be listening to lyrics like those” seems my dad talking about me and marilyn manson.. ha! he definitively does not like MM

anyway.. about cypress hill, he totally supports me to listen to it.. since he was the one who introduced them to me..! lol

“It’s a slightly darker, laid-back track, but has a great vibe.” cannot wait to listen to it and to the album.. btw, vintage sound? i love it!😀

oh, and i left a small “note” in my comment of the previous post about FMM.. would be great if you read and tell me what i should do or something like this.. (:

take care; see ya. mk’nil :*

  23. Neil on December 17, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Mike, with all your posts on Record labels and royalties and all that business, Could you possibly tell us more about your label Machine Shop?

  24. TheRisingTide on December 17, 2008 at 8:31 pm

hey, i just created a clique ID and i noticed that malaysia, vietnam, cambodia, indonesia, singapore… pretty much all of the south east asian nations are missing while on the other hand you have tiny places like the islands of the coast of the US. I had to lie about where I live which kinda sucks.. maybe you should think about updating the list. anyway, the reason i created it was to ask if you’re a fan of sunny day real estate cause they appeared in one of your muxtapes a while back. just wondering because ive never met anyone who has even heard of them, and im a pretty big fan, so just curious. the cypress hill track sounds good, nice to hear that youre working on different things.

  25. ritzifying on December 17, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Why is it that when I hear the words Cypress Hill I think of Mrs. Doubtfire? :p

Are you going to answer any of the LPMBer of the Week questions? hmmmmm?

  26. CuteWhiteBunny on December 17, 2008 at 7:00 pm

    harmonica?
    seriously?

    sounds cool anyway.

  27. ShadowerLiltani on December 17, 2008 at 6:15 pm

Love the time for some action shout-out. Cyprus Hill are fucking awesome. I’m letting you get away with re-writing a song produced from vinyl with live instruments, simply because of how great of a learning experience that is. Anyways, I love hearing that 80’s sound, even though I kind of didn’t really grow up with it (born 1986), I miss it. Maybe that’s why I got so excited about The Rising Tied. Thanks for the kick-ass sharing!!🙂

  28. Spiritedhellion on December 17, 2008 at 5:40 pm

HAHA! This Brings me back to my high school years! NICE! Cant wait to hear the new stuff from them. Nice to see they’re still around & Thanks for the high school flashback! Ha!

  29. mike_n_LP_4ever on December 17, 2008 at 4:11 pm

OMG! I kno this song! Tha named sounded familiar, and I was like….”Why do I feel like I kno this song?” Then when I watched the video, and I recognized the song. The first time I heard this song, was on GTA (Grand Theft Auto): San Andreas. c[= LoL. It’s my bro’s fault. =) I like how da beat just breaks down near tha end; If ya undastand what I’m tryin ta say. =) Don’t they sing Jump Around too? With House of Pain?

    -Cati

PS “Do you want to get high? Does everybody want to get high?” LoL Hits From the Bong – Cypress Hill =D

  30. ravivandmikefan4life on December 17, 2008 at 4:08 pm

Haha i thought the first part was funny.
That reminds me of a question i wanted to ask.
Is there any websites that i can get ur Fort Minor cd from?
I dont think that it will be in Target (which is like the only place i can go to get cds thats nearby-unless its avalable at Barnes and Nobles?)
And also i asked my dad for it for x-mas and i know that he wont find it cuz he’ll look in rock (he doenst think that i like rap, so he’ll always assume that any band i like is either rock or pop)

  31. lucky_cat on December 17, 2008 at 4:00 pm

LOL … seems I have to play the mom-part here😉 I can feel with her. My son is 14 years old now and there is definitely a lot of stuff circulating that I don’t want him to listen🙂 Fortunately his favorite band is Linkin Park and Fort Minor, haha. There are some other bands too, but I like them all. Weird situation, huh? I think I should hate the music he likes to listen to, naturally. But we were ending up together on the LP concert in Berlin this year😉 Nothing doing, we have the same taste … seems he needs some other reasons to think I’m antiquated and silly, I don’t worry …😉
Your description of the track sounds tasty, I’m looking forward! …

  32. PankakeMunky on December 17, 2008 at 3:53 pm

that’s awesome. i don’t know much about cypress hill since i was like 3 years old but it’s good to hear that you got to produce a track. i can’t wait to hear it.🙂

  33. BigBadOdalis on December 17, 2008 at 3:46 pm

That’s cool. I’ll definately check out that record. Anyway, stuff like that is good to experiment with, maybe help and inspire, or just give you an idea of your own record.

  34. durg on December 17, 2008 at 3:14 pm

hahahah i totally didnt read the “back in 1991” part of that & was like uhhh mike.. you asked for it for christmas from your mom??😄

  35. SimplyMode on December 17, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Oh word? That should be something… MS & Cypress Hill I can totally see that happening (:

I love the fact that you used to watch YO! MTV raps, totally changes my whole perspective of you (in a good way, don’t worry)

Anyway can’t wait to hear the album should be dope,

by the way, my mom reacted the same way when we were out shopping and I asked her to buy me “Shallow Believer” by “The Used”. She didn’t approve with her 13 year old daughter calling “Slit Your Own Throat” her favorite song lol. Moms will be moms.

  36. Jaclyn on December 17, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Cool news and track description! Can’t wait to hear it!

Haha i never asked my parents to buy me music ))) if i needed a record i went to friends and got what i wanted

  37. HMF on December 17, 2008 at 1:39 pm

I’ve never heard of Cypress hill but they sound good! Lol! 1991…I wasn’t even born yet!! That was also the year Chester got into his first band (Sean Dowdell and his Friends) very good band!! I have all of their songs on my ipod!! Ask him about it. He might be surprised ppl even know about it considering it’s so old!! lol

  38. Curiosa on December 17, 2008 at 1:34 pm

ha ha I feel so sorry for your mom. :)~ If you ever have kids would you let them listen to a CD like that or do what your mom did? Bobo is such a nice guy. He even added a link to the FM site on his new site.

Hey look, they made a keyboard just for you & your current “blonde moments”. :)~ ha ha Check out the “10 Reasons…” sections while you’re at it. :)~

HAHAHA! That’s the same reaction with my Mom when I got your Hybrid Theory CD…She said you really love that music and look at them with their spikes on their head, heavily dyed hair blah!blah!…Hahaha!…and hey! you play harmonica!?oh!so sweet!:)…How does it feel to produce the music that once before you just watch them on tv and now look at you!you can actually hold and hug them!Man!That’s a lot of hardwork…Goodluck for the new album!Take care…Love Ya!

PS:I can’t imagine what’s your mom’s reaction when your having tour with them.haha!and did you cry coz your mom don’t like Cypress Hill?

  40. Muggs on December 17, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Holy crap, I nearly had a heartattack when I saw my screen name in there (saw it before I read the whole paragraph) and then realized you were talking about the DJ. The dude totally stole my nickname.😛

But congrats! You must be super excited about this, especially considering how long you’ve been a fan of him. It must be crazy to work with someone you grew up listening to. Can’t wait to hear it!

And hopefully your Mom will but THIS Cypress Hill record…haha.

  41. analoggirl on December 17, 2008 at 1:10 pm

I love that your mom was trying to steer her son in the right direction back in the day. What was her reaction when you toured with Cypress Hill in 2002? lol

Anyway, I’m a fan of Cypress Hill and I’m looking forward to the song. “A slightly darker, laid-back track” is exactly what the doctor ordered.

  42. zahra on December 17, 2008 at 1:06 pm

Mike, this news made me “Insane In The Brain” again! HAHA! I have good expectations for this track. I think I’ve asked you about this collaboration maybe 2 months ago and you finally posted info about it. Better late than never! Do you think you would’ve listened to those songs 24 hours a day if your mom have allowed you to do it? Thanks for the videos! Krassie

  44. MayLP on December 17, 2008 at 12:17 pm

    1991…wow…I was borning…hahaha
Nice….I know how it’s like, I wanna buy something or go somewhere and my father thinks it’s not a good idea…

  45. Mr_Huhn on December 17, 2008 at 12:16 pm

thanks for the news mike s. cant wait to hear that track!

  46. Carla on December 17, 2008 at 12:16 pm

Yaaaaaay, I’m really excited for this!🙂

Haha, I was watching the YO! MTV Raps specials on MTV Hits and it made me realize how much old school hip hop and rap I got exposed to as a kid. That’s why I could remember the song hooks, Cypress being one of the groups. Haha, it’s also funny how you described that situation with your Mom since that happens to me alot. Man, now I can’t wait for this track!
