Late to Glorious Excess

January 4, 2009

Current TV’s piece on Glorious Excess “Born”…Current was a little late on this (ironic, no?), but feel free to jump over to their site and vote this piece up if you like it:

Hello! Is the (dies) exhibit still a go at the National Museum beginning this month? If it is we’d like to check it out. Your work is very intriguing and a truly a joy to explore. I’m currently editing my friend’s theoretical architecture book. He’s also got another one in the works with Neil Spiller that we’re looking for material for as well. Here’s his link: . Please email me if you think you’d like to participate. Thank you!

  3. I_B_Long on January 7, 2009 at 2:08 am

well, the comments on it are 4 months old, so they werent THAT late, however, i clearly remember searching current several times for something like this a few months ago and nothing ever came up….oh well. current still kicks ass…as does your art.

  4. jenshinoda88 on January 6, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Yes, they have done a little later ..
I have voted anyway! of course! I entered affixed .. I do not know what could serve, however, my contribution there. Everything for my idol! Mike Shinoda! 🙂

  5. iLook on January 6, 2009 at 10:12 am

    Nice work!

  6. janaLP on January 6, 2009 at 6:56 am

I love your Art, it’s so awesome!!! And I have your DC shoes ” Xander” on my feets 😀 and your Artbook from “Born”.
    Please look at this:
    it’s selfmade xD

  7. max_payn on January 6, 2009 at 2:30 am

Long time, Mike! Your works are so good.

I alwayes thought that people must concentrate on just one or two part that they are talented… because their energy is limited and they can’t afford every works they do. I mean, I thought musicians can’t work REAL paintings, cause they are not painter.
But, you know, you are the first person who broke that prejudice. I don’t know how you can do Everything you want and get actual outcome out of them. (Arts, Linkinpark, Fort Minor, producing, making stuff…etc)

    So eh,…I’m just curious.

How did you manage all of that? Do you drink secret Elixer? or you have hidden golden eggs?

  8. linkinladie328 on January 5, 2009 at 11:59 pm

i was there! LoL. it was an awesome show mike. good job! :]
    LP update.. please
    thanks! 😀

    Hey Mike

Your artwork inspires me, I love it. I actually got an idea from one of your paintings on a guitar. I will have to post the picture on here or somewhere and see what you think.

  10. m_s_jayhuynh on January 5, 2009 at 7:00 pm

When you were younger, how did you know that being an artist was what you wanted to do as a living besides just as a hobby? I want to go to the Art Institute of Los Angeles in Santa Monica to do Audio Production and it’s a great program, but with my mother wanting me to go into the medical field, I have second thoughts. Oh and by the way I love the “Song” painting, and when are you doing the “Die” part of the art show? I want to get another shirt there, mine’s wearing apart. Ahaha.

  11. Twiggy on January 5, 2009 at 11:37 am

    nice paint, what it means??
( the girl on the middle looks like some celebrity …..)

  12. enjoyskinny on January 5, 2009 at 11:32 am

Mike I have to ask you something. Are you guys going to play in Poland at Szczecin rock festival? Did you got the invitation? xxx

  13. missdunno on January 5, 2009 at 10:43 am

Cool interview, but yeah, very late…lol! And about GLXS (dies): how it’s going? Are you working on it, or do you plan to do it after the LP album come out?

  14. Lvix on January 5, 2009 at 10:17 am

People who thinks: being on the camera is the number one…
Well i don’t play music(I do a little bit piano)

    But in my Hobby: Reporter…
Being in the camera is just my number one…
But yeah of course you’re right! An artist should have making music as number one…
But you think i am wrong to?

  15. Charlotte_Jay on January 5, 2009 at 10:04 am

I’m a big fan of your artwork Mike, It’s special, It’s “The Mike Shinoda Style”.I’m looking forward to see your new pieces 🙂
Good luck with Glorious Excess (Dies) and take care 🙂

  16. ShadowerLiltani on January 5, 2009 at 9:45 am

That was actually a really informative video. Most of the GE interviews you’ve posted haven’t really been about your thoughts behind the paintings until now. I must debate though, you do realize that, even if your paintings took a back seat, music is still an art form, and you always were an artist, just with a different media. Music, literature and theater always seem to get put in a separate category, and that always irritates me, when you grow up to be a musician or writer, and people think you don’t want to be an artist anymore when you in fact are. It’s just as bad as that damned question, “Where’d you learn to draw like that?”

  17. Stee1baby on January 5, 2009 at 9:14 am

Really interesting idea – to be engaged in an art)) I wish u creative ideas and success 🙂

  18. Monciukaz on January 5, 2009 at 8:50 am

    Great job Mike..

  19. rockermeg on January 5, 2009 at 8:20 am

Ooh that’s weak Mike! Current TV being late…ha ha…
Glorious Excess (Born) was amaaazing!!! I shall vote you up…what does that even do??
Can’t wait for GLXS dies xD
(PS – it snooooooowed!!!!!!!! I’m so happy!! It’s awesome!)

  20. Kalini on January 5, 2009 at 8:17 am

Great interview! I agree with you. It’s actually ironic that if an artist is caught driving drunk is a more important news than releasing of an album. In fact, I’m not quite aware why the people are so interested in this kind of stuff. I just don’t care what all those celebrities are doing, but there are so many people who do love reading gossips about the celebrities. Yeah, Current is a little late, but it’s a nice piece. It’s also a little reminder of your Alternative Art Show at SURU with Joe this month?!?! By the way, if you don’t make a post about it: Happy Birthday to! Krassie

  21. Gabry94LinkinParkfan23 on January 5, 2009 at 8:00 am

woaaaaaaah Mikee i love ur artworks, they’r really cool!!!! oh and yea, happy bday ^_^ byee Gabry

  22. Shinoda77 on January 5, 2009 at 7:55 am

    happy birthday

  23. lp_fm_fan on January 5, 2009 at 7:38 am

    Really cool.

Btw, the post below me had mentioned that today is the anniversary of wow, one year! 😀 Time flies fast, huh? Congratulations for keeping up with this! It’d take me forever to get me used to something. Ha. =P

Can’t wait for what 2009 holds for us!

  24. Alexx94 on January 5, 2009 at 6:17 am

your artworks are amazing mike!!!^^’s really a little bit too late..:)
    kiss Alexx
    P.s happy birthday^^

  25. nikkiann0100 on January 5, 2009 at 6:11 am

I agree that they were a little bit late but good video. I voted for it. I love it. I cant wait for the next art show.

  26. PaintedDreams on January 5, 2009 at 1:05 am

mike.. i love the range you have in your artwork. this is SO different from your other art exhibition. you have your own style, yet it shows in anything you create. that aspect is so awesome and hard to accomplish. on another note, i’m a striving artist and i’m working on my own style. you are a big part of my inspiration, mike. keep on truckin’. =]

  27. miKer0cks on January 5, 2009 at 12:09 am

Really nice interview Mike, you answered to some stuff I wanted to ask you about so thx 🙂 You definetely have a point about celebs 🙂 I agreee….Btw I remember another video about ”Born” in which you were explaining to Brad how you did the poster with the dollars it was awesome 🙂 It must have been really difficult to make and I guess you had a lot of patience while making it 🙂 Anyway when you have news on ”Dies” let us know plz 🙂

PS. Maybe in a couple of years, when you’re on tour with LP in Europe, you could do an art show so that all your fans who live far away from the US can enjoy your art, not just from videos and pics 🙂 (I know it’s difficult but I’m just saying)

  28. Crzycanadian on January 4, 2009 at 11:24 pm

The common thread here besides how amazingly talented you are, is when can we expect “Dies”. I couldn’t make “Born” because life got in the way of my fun again 😦 but am looking forward to “Dies”

Appease the masses and give us a hint! 😀

  29. MS_Ineedyou on January 4, 2009 at 9:51 pm

The video won’t work for me 😦

  30. nillp on January 4, 2009 at 9:10 pm

yeah. it’s a little late but it’s REALLY great! i registered just to “vote up” on it.. o/o

i really loved the video and the way you explained your pieces and the show.. (: i do love your art.. it’s as amazing as you!

i’m definitively going to get one of your arts tattooed (or several :D).. but i’m under 18, so i’ll have to wait a little. ): the LP logo i have was done “furtively” and the guy who did, doesn’t want to do a bigger tattoo on me.. :/

anyway. i went to the movies last week and watched a movie that really worth to be watching.. if you have time and it’s still passing in the USA, go watch “seven pounds”; it’s really great!

    keep rocking. (:

    mk’nil :*

  32. vivian on January 4, 2009 at 7:27 pm

    awsome 🙂
u are talented in art&music! I luv u man and take care

  33. ThePrincess on January 4, 2009 at 6:11 pm

I have one question for you .. can you explain to me the meanings from all of your artwork according to your perspective possibly with the language that is easily to understand by the layman like me … I love art, especially modern art and i do like ur artwork so much but honestly I’m still a little vague to capture the meaning from each one of your painting … I really will appreciate if you like to give just a few explanations to me..

    LoVe yA

  34. Zach on January 4, 2009 at 4:14 pm

    Can’t wait for Born.

BTW, what was the demo title for Valentine’s Day Mike?

  35. Doggie24690 on January 4, 2009 at 4:10 pm

I loved that interview. Probably one of the more informative ones about the pieces themselves, the figure and it was nice how concisely you explained it without missing any details that I would ask about later.(If I hadn’t already looked up the art show) I also liked how you explained vanitas; much better than just the posted definition that you put up… a while ago, haha. Thanks for the post Mike!

  36. MarishkaLP on January 4, 2009 at 4:04 pm

nice idea for the art show! you have a point, Mike! love the pictures – SO MUCH WORK! awesome!

  37. Illara on January 4, 2009 at 3:38 pm

i finally understood about Glorious Excess (born) concept more now.

i knew it was related about celebs but that was just it.

its a wonderful deep concept. congrats on G.E (born)!

    take care, Mike 🙂

  38. Carla on January 4, 2009 at 3:21 pm

Haha, I couldn’t agree more when you talked about being more excited about a musician being arrested than their actual album releases. I still think the whole concept of this show was really interesting and brought the view of the rich and famous into an entirely different perspective, which most people don’t get to see or wouldn’t care about initially. I’m glad that they had some shots of your sketches and process too. (Your lines are really CLEAN. Even if you erased and eventually went over them, I’m envious D:) I also like the way you incorporate different colors in your paintings, mostly seen in the strokes zoomed in. Anyways, anything on the follow-up show you mentioned earlier?

  39. analoggirl on January 4, 2009 at 2:52 pm

That was a fantastic piece for Current TV – congrats. You were very articulate, as always. In the past, you’ve commented on the many facets of celebrity. However, I think this is the first time I’ve seen you comment on the ‘rules’ of engagement – how we expect our celebrities to act in accordance to their own moral code and gleefully champion their transgressions. Thanks again for doing this exhibit. Also, thanks for NOT having your own mug shot. 😉

  40. Ana_ on January 4, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Yes, a little bit ironic. But is never too late to show your art… :p You have such a great talent… Both in music as in painting. I really admire your art and I also love the message. 🙂 Kisses from Portugal! *

  41. tpbarbosa on January 4, 2009 at 2:21 pm

I’m a bit confused about one thing, mainly cause I’m not a english speaker. The skull is about to make all of those famous things like “drugs, rock and roll and sex” feel right or wrong?I mean what’s your true opinion about it?I don’t know if you clearly said it on that video I just didn’t get it for real.I think I liked more your past art exhibition(that’s just me).And I also have one more question, would do you think about people doing tattoos of your art on their skin?Should they ask for you 1st before do it?Cause I think I’ve seen a person who did it,and I think somehow the artist have to know it. By the way check it out:

  42. Madlen on January 4, 2009 at 2:21 pm

They did make a good video though:DI’m so proud to have your skate deck “Women”:DIt’s on my wall and it’s soo pretty:DYou are an amazing artist…
