Got a nice shout-out from Ethan Kaplan who runs Although Ethan works at Warner Bros., I’ve never met him in person (I guess that says something about how big WB is, even the LA office). Anyway, here’s the link. Feel free to keep up with Ethan’s blog–it’s a good one.

I hope to meet Ethan in person soon πŸ˜‰

I don’t think I understand the term “transparency” is he talking about mystery???
Ha, my lead guitarist (and best friend) had the idea to only show ourselves in videos, as anime characters. This may be because she’s obsessed with manga and j-rock (and pocky xD) but she has loads of random ideas like this…like not revealing our real names. Maybe that’s taking transparency a little less seriously than what Ethan is talking about, but it does add mystery and intrigue, no?
Yeahh he’s right; we do need more bloggers like you Mike πŸ™‚
And I hope to meet you in person soon…but there we go
He’s awesome, very blunt but insightful…

I totaly agree with Ethan. You’re an example. Your work, your dedication in everything you do and your personality delights everyone. πŸ™‚

  3. ShadowerLiltani on January 9, 2009 at 8:00 am

Wow, that was really nice of him. Does shout outs like this one, or ones from articles or fans, ever get old for you, or is it just as exciting as it was when it first started? Did you ever truly expect that you were going to get this much recognition, or did it not matter to either way; in the sense that it wouldn’t matter if 1 person heard you or 1 thousand, as long as you left your mark on someone. I’m going to do a blog related to this about my own work: (yep, with that crappy-ass layout)

You see? Everybody loves you πŸ™‚ Hope you’ll have a chance to meet Ethan πŸ™‚

  6. Madlen on January 8, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Heh of course you know what you’re talking about:)You became a pro in this business by learning about it from first hand experience so it’s no wonder that you know so much:)It’s a great thing that you help others:D

  7. Curiosa on January 8, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Hey Mike, belated Happy New Year. πŸ™‚

That was a good blog & I do agaree w/him. Some people do need to stay mysterious & others be open. I also agree that u do know what ur talking about in regards to the music biz. Of course knowing & being able to do it are 2 different things. :)~ J/K Your music blogs are basically the only blogs that interest me (& pic blogs when ur on tour). Why? I don’t know since I’m not involved in the biz. I guess I just like 2 learn new things. Or it could be bcause the speakers r turned off on my comp so I can’t listen 2 youtube vids. I know someone who @WB in the LA office but I don’t know if you two have met since we don’t talk about you. :)~ Take care.

my very first thought when i read: “Why artists should be transparent…” was: “yeah.. everybody should be like mike, for sure“.. and when i read your name on it, i was like “i see that it definitivey is a global consensus”.. that’s one of the reasons that i keep saying that the world needs of thousands like you, really! keep this way and you’re going to revolutionize the world, dude! (y)

anyway. hope you meet him in person soon as much as i want to meet you! (:

he has a nice blog btw.

    take care; mk’nil *:

  10. Jhuryn on January 8, 2009 at 8:13 am

Are their any new artists that you’re interested in right now? I know you’re big into hip hop but how about rock bands? I’m always looking for new music but the radio stations in my area play the same 20 songs over and over. Myspace is a great resource but I’m sure that you and the rest of the band have some recommendations. Please expand our musical universe!
    Rock on,

Thats awesome. I agree with him though. There should be more blogs like yours. People really can learn alot from them. I know I do.

  15. Kalini on January 8, 2009 at 5:45 am

It’s the second time you make a post in regard to Ethan Kaplan’s Blog, but this time it’s because he’s mentioned you in his post. Yeah, you got a “nice shout-out” from him and hope you to meet him in person soon! I’d like to show you a link to a cover of Nickelback’s “Rockstar”, called “Popstar” (if you already know it, sorry). The video and the lyrics are very funny and somehow are related to GLXS BORN/ DIES, the music business and the motivation of the celebrities discussions here. Here is a link to the video: I’ve posted the lyrics of “Popstar” and “Rockstar” on my site. Krassie

Oh ah yeah, I heard about Apple goin’ DRM free, think it’s 8 million of their 10 million songs though, still, it’s getting there lolz.

Btw mike, you had a gander at that new 17″ Macbook Pro? Lolz jeez that’s one impressive piece of tech there, 7 – 8 hours of battery life, on something with a screen that large?! lolz quite thin too, pricey also xD Naa myself I’l probs get the 15″ Macbook Pro, Pro Tools 8, M Box Mini… Music’s so expensive =/ lolz.

Anyway hope you had a good new year. Have fun meeting that Ethan dude. Peace.

  19. analoggirl on January 8, 2009 at 12:32 am

High praise from Mr. Kaplan! And well-deserved, of course. As readers, we subscribe to your blog because we appreciate your transparency, whether you’re updating us on your projects or mentoring new artists.
I also believe that people respond to your sincerity. Your integrity. I don’t have a problem with publicists, as I know they have a vital role in sharing the message to the media. (I should note that I’ve recently entered the world of PR.) However, I take issue with artists who hide behind personas. Personas that are derived from clichΓ©s. Personas that are self-serving. You’ve always been nothing but authentic.

  20. Blaesbjerg on January 8, 2009 at 12:24 am

I agree with him. All your fans appreciate your blog, cause it’s just amazing!
Well almost isn’t a blog anymore, your blog as like.. How can i put it, a really nice piece of newspaper xD lol.
I learn so much from you blog. Keep it up!

    (Ethan, lucky bastard πŸ™‚ haha)

  21. KATHYxx on January 7, 2009 at 11:50 pm

I really agree with this idea. I wish everyone could be transparent, because I think misunderstandings between artists and fans can be hurtful. I notice, when I used to be angry a whole lot that it wasn’t really justified upon learning what’s going on behind the scenes. I would suggest businesses do the same too.

  22. Dori on January 7, 2009 at 11:22 pm

Major Kudos, Mike! I totally agree with what he said about your blog, too. It sucks that people in the business have these other people working for them and literally telling them what to say publicly, so that they will please the masses and not give some one else a bad name… All your fans really appreciate that LP comes right out and says exactly why they have to change or cancel concerts, as opposed to other bands who just mention that they have to cancel or whatever, but don’t give, even an inkling of why….

  23. tristyn on January 7, 2009 at 11:20 pm

wow. this dude is totally right. being genuine creates image far stronger than if it was done artificially. oh btw mike i ran into the funniest shit on youtube today

( “”) actually, i think it’s a pretty smart idea for a product… my fav part: “my wife would like it!”

  24. lp_fm_fan on January 7, 2009 at 11:15 pm

Awww, that was a nice comment! Hope you get to meet him soon too, so you can thank him in person, haha. πŸ˜›
