Mic Geronimo: Masta I.C.

February 6, 2009

Mic Geronimo never got his proper respect. Here’s a flashback:

BTW, he had another song on the record with a couple other new rappers at the time. The guests were unlabeled on the album, the song was just called “Time To Build.” I never really put two and two together until a few years later when those guests became so recognizable that you couldn’t miss their voices: Ja Rule, DMX, and Jay-Z.

Listen to this song I feel back to the age of ten years when my Mom forbade me to play this song because the first word started with ‘ i’m so high / you so high ‘ 🙂 … but still a good choice .. you know for restore my memory to the ‘beautiful times’ .. thank you for sharing ..HAVE A NICE WEEKEND AND PLEASE DON’T GO TOO LONG BABY !! .. COZ I MISS YOU ALREADY ….

  8. analoggirl on February 6, 2009 at 4:10 pm

Nice pick! I’d never heard of Mic Geronimo. I’ve also never heard “Time to Build.” How did you recognize the other MCs? Was it (a) Ja Rule screaming, “Murda!” (b) DMX rapping about his dogs or (c) Jay-Z exclaiming, “Chyeah!” LOL

Btw, I love your nods to old school rappers in “Respect 4 Grandma” (LL Cool J and Run-DMC), “Magic Doors” (Marley Marl), “Remember The Name” (KRS-One) and “Stick N Move” (A Tribe Called Quest). Am I missing any? 😉

  12. Jaclyn on February 6, 2009 at 12:43 pm

Thanx for sharing! Love hip hop things you recommend. I don’t care if it’s slow or fast rap as long as the song, music and rythm is great and rocking. Nah I dont understand the lyrics, sometimes the words distract me from music _ sure i know how google for lyrics ;))

I know this has nothing to do with your post, Mike, but… A friend of mine emailed me this link and I just wanted to share it with you. It’s simple, but wonderfully done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42E2fAWM6rA

I’m not a fan of rap/hip hop too much.
There are the occasional times/situations where I don’t mind it, but this kind of thing…not the sort of stuff I can stand.
Random/useless fact – the first Jay-Z song I remember hearing was ‘Big Pimpin’ and at the time, I thought he was the shit… I’ve changed that opinion, since, but something about that song still makes me grin.
We have an idea of the kind of music you do like, but what kind of music do you not like… just out of curiosity?
If you could pick three ‘worst’ songs/bands…what would they be and why?
    Have a nice day.

Good track. Hey Mike who is your favorite rapper? I guess you have a plenty of them.. I’m quite sure I read somewhere that you listened RUN DMC when you were young, is it true? 🙂

  17. Yves on February 6, 2009 at 6:22 am

the good old days… I really miss the funky keyboard parts in the modern (mainstream) hip hop.

  20. soyuneik on February 6, 2009 at 5:13 am

Saying someshit like “I remember that”, or “I knew that”…it just seems irrelevant.
Never mind I’m delirious, his debut right?
…Someshit happened and I was doing alot of thinking about that line on sobs page.
“How does the underdog know when his time has come to win? ”
I wonder if its a bad thing to have immedlatley answered it for myself as: “he doesn’t”?

  21. rockermeg on February 6, 2009 at 4:22 am

    Truly a classic
But I never really liked that sort of slowed hip-hop or rap; I prefer it when they rap at like 100m/h xD
Like you in ‘Reading My Eyes’
I’ve heard that ‘Time to Build’!! I know what you mean, it’s so obvious now you’re like “why didn’t I get that?”
Ja Rule is great in that song

  22. Shinoda77 on February 6, 2009 at 3:48 am
