"New Brow" Documentary

February 18, 2009

I’m enjoying all the great music you guys are putting links to on the last post… I’ll be taking a few days to look through and listen to stuff before we open it up for more thoughts and discussion.

In the meantime, check out this trailer for a new documentary entitled “New Brow.” This film does not have a release schedule yet, but looks awesome.

this documentary really showes the most awesome developement of street art i’ve ever seen! if someone would ask me, what is art, then i’d say THAT is art! it’s awesome to see how this people are including emotions, misery in this surreal and partially bizarre pictures, that are sometimes are more looking like a drawing of van gogh or picasso someone of this artists ;D

but all in all it’s a great film, where it’s not ’bout the film, it’s ’bout that what’s behind it, exactly like with the pictures😀

    take care

Gah, I hate documentary filmmaking because it allows for poor presentation. The editing was subpar and the cinematography was bad. There were too many unnecessary jerky camera movements, which could easily be solved with a tripod. I don’t know why so many documentary filmmakers opt for hand-held and then don’t use a steady cam filter while editing to fix it up. I do, however, like the speed modifications on some of the shots. They fit perfectly with the fast paced music. On the other hand, the movie seems really interesting. The artists featured had some amazing paintings. I guess one could describe it as surreal, but I’m not sure. I’m more of a filmmaker than a painter.

lmao Seriously Mike, Menudo?!? lmao Wow you just took me back. lol I don’t really know much about the group post Ricki Martin since I didn’t pay attention to them until Ricki joined them (I still have a slight crush on him). Wow I sorta watched him grow from Menudo to his telenovela to his solo career & I still think he’s cute😉 except when he wore those tights for the telenovela. lol Now I’m going to have to call my sis & reminisce over the “good ol’ days. :)~

Hey, thanks for helping out the artists.🙂 Take care.

PS: Here’s a song to take you back, Cindy Lauper “All Through the Night”

It will be really interesting. Except the movie about Van Gogh, I’ve never seen any other film based on the life and work of an artist. “New Brow” is a documentary, so it’ll be very cool to see the artists speaking about their work. Thanks for the info! KK

Hi!🙂 Sounds interesting, and I am curious to see the result. Gets you in the mood to go paint something. There’s an art movie I heard about, maybe close to a year ago, called “My kid could paint that”, that was about a preschooler that got very popular for her abstract art. I work with the little boogers all the time, they have some unique signatures to their work. You pay attention to them long enough, you can figure who’s picture is who’s when they forget to write their name. And yeah, I do believe that any artist should develop an understanding of preschool art, especially if they are a teacher or in an art school.

    Hi Mike, two subjects:

I was willing to watch the documentary, it seems interesting.
I have an idea, because you can not open a post to the comments, we fans, can you ask?
It would be a fun interview made by us that we follow your work, especially for those who live further away (like me in Brazil). No need to answer all it could respond, I do not know, maybe the first 15 questions, it would be fun for us.

That looks like something I’d be interested in seeing. Something was said in there that puzzled me, though. It seems counter intuitive to me to buy art based on what an art consultant tells you is a good investment instead of buying something you like. That must be something that only comes up for people in tax brackets much higher than my own.

This is regarding the last post. It might be cool to have a post for artists too (painters, illustrators, etc.) similar to “promote yourself”

  20. todraw on February 18, 2009 at 6:01 pm

I just registerd an acc. xD I never realised i could that… I always just watched ur blogs^^ An the Film looks really interesting. An i would also be interest in an visual art blog post, cause i just started before some months writin rhymes but i am still tryin to figure out how to do good loops … So i would be more happy about an visual art blog post. I don’t think i am that good in it but would be good to get some critcs from ppl, which helps to get better…. An the bands of the last blog post some was awesome. I think it’s a really good thing doing that.^^
    So a happy day/night u all xD

I thing that is good but need some … I like but not love it. Yo creeo que es buena pero necesita algo … me gusta pero no la amo.

  22. analoggirl on February 18, 2009 at 4:37 pm

That looks like an interesting documentary. I’m enjoying the power shift from the “high brow” to the “new brow.” (I’d like it even more if I could get my hands on a Shepard Fairey print! HA!)

This power shift or movement is also applicable to music. As you’ve documented in your blog, we’re witness to the rise of the “music middle class.” I have to commend you for supporting your fans in your last post. It’s great to see that you’re willing to promote (and counsel) aspiring artists.

  23. cuz on February 18, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I love your idea for previous post. I wasn’t posting there as you asked but wanted you to know🙂 Are you going to do something like that with visual art? It’s amazing you spend your time helping out to others, listening to all the music. That means a lot to all of us, even if some of us don’t create anything. I’m checking out the music and enjoy a lot of it!

Looks like the movie is going to be interesting. Hope to see more of it soon.

  24. vivian on February 18, 2009 at 3:45 pm

hi Mike, Im happy 2see that u updated your blog, cuz’ you said “Don’t post unless you are the artist.” and I really got lots 2say.
I’ve checked out all the links of those artists(it was really time comsuming= =), and I’ve picked out some bands that I thought really good.🙂
    ok….have a nice day Mike…..Im going to have a rest ❤

  25. michael2g on February 18, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Hey, Mike. You do a really great work here – telling about your experience, helping people to realize their talents, providing such an interesting info on music business, giving great advices and all that stuff. My question is – have you attended any show (in the last 12 months) by some unsigned artists, unknown bands? We all know that you listen to a lot of music by anybody. Do you try to go any further?

    Thanks for everything, Mike.

  26. bojkic on February 18, 2009 at 3:24 pm

Mike, this thing you are doing is wonderful man. I can only imagine how the guys who posted their music feel right now. Even the fact that you just might heard their music will give them a huge boost and make them work harder. You just continue to amaze me every day. I bumped into one of your interviews and the clip finishes with some reporters saying and I am repeting it here:Could you be a nicer guy? What I am glad is that I had such a good person to look up to through my adolesence and even now. Even though I don’t really know you(except for two hadshakes on M&Gs) I feel that all these 9 years you’ve been just like a 10-year-older brother I don’t have! Fan from the start: Bojan, Serbia.

    IS COOL!!! GOOD PICTUR´S!!!!

  28. Lynnie on February 18, 2009 at 3:20 pm

    That was…not really my thing.
    ~
I asked this a while ago but I’ll try again: How is the credit crunch/current economic downfall going to affect the music industry?
I’m curious because, of course, the prices of many things are dropping while prices of other things are soaring, and everyone is suffering. How will you, as a band, and us, as fans, be affected by this?
It is something that is affecting so many people so it’s bound to be an issue, sooner or later. Some bands are already producing lower quality work to compensate.
How do you think this will affect Linkin Park and the quality of future productions?
    ~
    Have a good day, Mike.
    Lynnie
    xx

I agree with Noturninbacknow, you’re making the difference and helping people who actually need help to reach their goal! Oh yea, the video is pretty cool. I am into art and I’ll watch this documentary when they release it.

Take care Mike, oh yea I’m supporting that ‘Fires in Australia” cause, you know?! I’m asking everyone to donate and I’ve already donated some money… Not too much (because I don’t have ‘too much’ ha!) but I’ll try to get more!

    You rock.

  30. noturninbacknow on February 18, 2009 at 2:52 pm

I think it’s awesome that you take the time to encourage fans to not only post their music on your site, but also take the time to listen to it. It just shows how dedicated you are to your fans & how much you really do care about them. It’s such a difference from most people in the industry & makes me feel better about supporting you guys…..keep it up!!!!

  31. lucky_cat on February 18, 2009 at 2:25 pm
