Featured Artists 3.14.09

March 14, 2009

On my continuing quest to rummage through our page on and find the best music to recommend to you…here are three more MIKESHINODA.COM RECOMMENDED ARTISTS. By the way, if you like what they’re doing, go to their sites and let them know!

SoyuNeik posts on all the time…when I first checked this page out, I remember thinking, “I didn’t know she had beats like THIS!” Her tracks are GREAT. I’d love to hear some of the vocalists from my site team up with her to make some good stuff together.

I don’t know how to describe Johnny Berlin’s music. Really unique vocal harmonies, cool keyboards, good indie rock vibe “from Sin City, Limburg, Belgium.”

I said that you should only post stuff if you’re a musician. Elliot-aka-MC-Eli found a loophole in my rules (being a musician himself, but not posting his own music, ha!) and posted this for his brother. Kodiak Like The Bear is a California based, unsigned quartet who lists their influences as “Keith Sweat vs. Glassjaw vs. Prince vs. ??” I think if you like Thrice, Taking Back Sunday, Deftones, The Cure, My Chem, Silversun Pickups, The Used…you get the point. Go check them out.

EDIT: I fixed a couple mistakes on this page. Johnny Berlin is from Belgium (please excuse my typo), and Kodiak Like The Bear’s link is fixed.

I keep searching my emails ..searching google for anything and everything related to my sister, soyuneik..she killed herself in january. i guess i just keep looking because i secretly wish she had left me a suicide note. i know i wont find anything but it doesnt stop me ..from time to time i still look..and every time i end up back at this page..i take comfort in knowing how much this meant to her…(and many other things that made her happy) which reminds me of HER and not the last few painful memories that i have of her.. she was a huge fan and you def took part in her inspiration to create the music she did.

Congrats to all the artists featured in this week’s blog!

  3. johnnyberlin on March 17, 2009 at 6:06 am

Hey, Laurens Renner from Johnny Berlin here. I would like to say thanks for putting my band here on the site, and thanks for all the comments I received on myspace, facebook…. I was on the alternative radio in Belgium yesterday, they couldn’t really believe that Mike Shinoda cared about a small Belgian band, still don’t think they believe me 🙂

I really love SoyuNeik too, I’m gonna ask her if she wants to do a track with us ! fingers crossed !

    thanks !

    Laurens renner from Johnny Berlin

  4. ravivandmikefan4life on March 17, 2009 at 5:35 am

Hey the 3rd band seems really cool!
But i was wondering. It seems like ur only posting myspace links when it comes to these people. I was wondering if u could find some recomended bands that have youtube accounts and they post videos of themself (Like Marie Digby, but unsigned)

  5. Ana_ on March 16, 2009 at 5:22 pm

SoyuNeik – Very nice beats!! 🙂
    Good luck!

  6. Miibi on March 16, 2009 at 1:45 pm

So Uneik- Fish Out Of Water is too much!!!!!

  8. tpbarbosa on March 15, 2009 at 3:28 pm

Good artists you choose, but some of them are not really my style.
But I’m glad you keep hearing and caring about us, it’s really important to us all 😀
By the way, I was thinking today, I so hate fangirls… but do you, LP like them?
I mean, they’re a bit annoying, but maybe you have a different thought.

  9. Lynnie on March 15, 2009 at 3:14 pm

SoyuNeik – Good for what it is, but it doesn’t appeal to me.
Johnny Berlin – Again, good for what it is… but not my thing.
Kodiak Like The Bear – So good that it eventually just became background music for me… and for me, that’s a good thing. It’s not really annoying, so that’s cool! I liked this band.
Have a good day, Mr Shinoda… or should we call you Mr Cowell?

  10. Madlen on March 15, 2009 at 2:16 pm

I just gave my last two votes for Johnny Berlin:)I post at every one of your posts too but you never notice me lol:DWhat should I do?:DBtw I’m gonna ask again-Are you planing on doing a project like that for people that paint?

    Hey Mike!
It’s not “Beliguim” but BELGIUM….You’ve got a lot of fans in this country and I’m myself Belgian so it would be nice if you spell at least its name correctly :-/
Otherwise these 3 new artists are as good as the the 6 others.

PS: ;you should go check out =D

  17. Tubabu on March 15, 2009 at 3:53 am

Mike i really like the music of Johnny Berlin. I like rock indie and it’s true their music is unique. Do u know french band ? I just give you 2 Myspace with 2 french bands. They are all indie and their music are in english. The first is just (i think) the best band on the moment in France ( and it’s my favourite). Their name is AaRON and their music is just unique, i can’t discribe their style : (my faovurites songs on their myspace are “Endless Song”, “Blow” & “Le Tunnel d’Or”). The second band is Cocoon, it’s just a pop/folk band : My favourites songs is “Chupee” & “Vultures” . Have a good day. Hope u ask me.

  18. shinnizel15 on March 15, 2009 at 2:59 am

  19. Hawaii_LP_fan on March 15, 2009 at 1:23 am

You have a keen sense of finding diamonds in the rough. After reading your blog entry, I checked out all of the talented musicians’ myspace pages and loved their individual style. I especially loved Ms. Soyuneik’s unique beats and requested to be her myspace buddy! :o) I told her Mike’s blog sent me.
It’s unheard of in the music industry of someone as accomplished as yourself, personally recommending hopeful & hardworking musicians. That’s awesome you are paying it forward. Thanks Mike!

  20. Maaark on March 14, 2009 at 9:08 pm

Mike, this time you recommended REALLY TALENTED musicians! I liked the others you recommended, but these three you mentioned in this post are my favorites! I didn’t like Kodiak Like The Bear (their link’s not working, btw. I had to use the Myspace’s search to check them out), I don’t think they bring anything new, you know? But they’re talented!

Johnny Berlin is my favorite so far! I’m not a big fan of indie rock but this guy kicks ass! I’ve already voted on him.

Soyuneik is really talented too and you singing with her beats would be something really interesting. Maybe for a future FM project you could invite her!

Take care Mike and please keep recommending the bands you like!

  21. Aditya_the_warrior_within on March 14, 2009 at 8:44 pm

  22. soyuneik on March 14, 2009 at 8:23 pm

Man…That’s the best Birthday present I’ve ever received.
SoUneik means: be whoever you want to be, no matter where you come from or what kind of life you lived…
Don’t ever settle, don’t give in, and never give up. This means the world to me, Thank You Mike.

  23. Elliot_aka_MC_Eli on March 14, 2009 at 6:06 pm

Haha sorry Mike, but i had to 🙂 Can you edit the link to on your link there is no “f” after “.cfm?” thank you. I find it funny that you list them around the same as TBS, because my bro. wants a band that is TBS vs Circa Survive type of flavor. Can you tell me how this sounds? it’s a demo by them. Just two guitars and drums i believe. and thanks! can’t wait for the new album!

  24. dianlucas on March 14, 2009 at 4:07 pm

Johnny Berlin comes from Belgium, not Beligium… Mike maybe you have to visit Belgium with your Linkin Park tour, then i can be happy and you will know how you have to spell it:p
These Johnny Berlin guys are 5 good friends of me… I am their roadie and street team leader to…

Mike, I’m so glad you finally opened your ears for our so unique SoUneik! As a friend and fan I couldn’t be happier and I know nobody else who deserves it more to be featured here on your site.

Thanks for posting the link to her site! I voted for Soyuneik, but of course she needed your recommendation, too! KK
