M: You’re the first interview I’ve done for this site. Thanks for taking a minute.
R: im fucking honored. your welcome, and thank you. i have alot more minutes than you do. So maybe i should be thanking you for asking the questions. anyways..what’s good pimp sauce!
M: I posted a little while ago about an incredible track you did called “My Little Razor Blade.” Tell us about that track.
R: we heard the original track by the Knife and loved it, so we did some hip hop magic and reworked it. that song has a certain emotion in the beat that is hard to capture in hip hop music. we actually have a new Get busy song called “shoot me up” that captures that same feel. maybe even better. Scoop killed it on the beat. cant wait to put my verse on that. i’ll send it to you when its done
M: What’s your favorite track that you’ve been working on lately?
R:i have a song with Scoop deville that im doing called, “i wanna rock” shit is bananas. you’ll see why when you hear it.
M: What’s up with the other guys from Styles Of Beyond?
R: I still see Cheapshot and Vinscully all the time, they’re doing great. i haven’t heard fromTak in a long time, so im not sure what he’s up to
M: We were all really let down that Warner Bros. didn’t want to put out Reseda Beach. How did that situation go down?
R: From what i know about the situation is, Warner would have released the record, but the marketing budget they wanted to give us was so small, it would have been a monster flop. We felt we were not on anybody’s radar at the company, so we decided it would be better to leave, as opposed to dropping a brick and still being stuck in a contract with a company that has no interest in hip hop. luckily with your help, we were able to walk away from that situation with our album
M: Are you guys planning to put that album out? When / how?
R:Yes we are, i think we’re just gonna do an itunes release, and press up a small amount of cd’s. we just need the artwork and we’re good to go. we’re gonna put alot of effort into licensing our music. Its always been our bread and butter, so we’re gonna go with what we know. expect it out in 2 months. 3 tops
M: How’s it going with the new solo material? How many songs have you done?
R: Its funny, alot of people ask me about my solo album. the truth is, i’ve never been working on a solo album, i have some really good songs i’ve recorded that could be used for an album if i chose to make one, but its not something im really into right now with the state of the music industry. If i had a reason or a good situation to release an album, i would love to do it. im actually having a good time writing for other artist at the moment. I also just did a song with Rob Dyrdek, and Bishop Lamont called “Dirty girl part 2” It came out great, so we’re gonna shoot a video for that in June at the Palms casino, directed by Jesse Terrero, who did all the 50 cent vidios. the song was produced by Rob’s cousin Drama, who is about to do big things. the kid got beats! But trust me, Dirty girl part 2 is the anthem for this summer!
M: I heard a couple new tracks that you’ve done with the Get Busy Committee. They were phenomenal! How is that project going?
R:Get busy committee is the shit! Apathy comes out to my house in May, he’ll be here for 3 months, we’re gonna finish up the GBC album as well as the Demigodz album. get busy is so fun a refreshing, i love doing it. Its the first project i’ve been really excited about in a long time
M: What do people need to know about Ryu that they don’t know?
R: I think people think im a super aggressive, rowdy, heavy drinking, party animal, i guess i have moments like that, but really i just like to relax and hang with my family, watch laker games and chill with my close friends. im not really the club guy. im pretty accessible if people wanna get at me, you know where im at. if not you can keep up with what im doing at any of the following fine locations.
