Mastering a new song

May 1, 2009

It’s probably a good thing that the place we’re mastered a bunch of our albums (Bernie Grundman’s) has a signed plaque on the wall for mastering Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”…but I’ve always been more excited that our guy, “Big Bass” Brian, mastered all the N.W.A. stuff.

P.S., that “3 Million” is way outdated…but the record labels don’t make plaques very often anymore…

  1. BigBassBrian on July 8, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I must clarify here Brad. The Michael Plaque above your head shows the SINGLES of which I did ALL. Bernie did the albums, and I did all the singles . . actually starting with the Jackson Fives first song I Want You Back with Barry Gordy himself, and onto the next 6 singles for them and off to Berkeley with Creedence Clearwater Revival, then back again from Off The Wall through Thriller, Bad, and so on. Had to point that out.

    R.I.P Michael.

    Brian ‘Big Bass’ Gardner

I know I’m a little slow to comment but meh, I don’t care. Anyway, personally I think that Brad should either grow mad facial hair like he did for the last album, or cut off that afro. I just don’t think that afro looks good without a beard.

  3. tpbarbosa on May 8, 2009 at 10:24 am

METEORA was the shit, that album was really a masterpiece.
I love that so damn much
    Yeah it’s really outdated.

  4. D3lta on May 7, 2009 at 10:45 am

Does it seem a little weird to anyone else that “Big Bass” Brian Gardener spelled Linkin Park’s name wrong? From his section on the site “His artist roster is whoever the biggest stars are at any point in time, such as: Michael Jackson, 2 pac, Outkast, Eminem, En Vogue, Lincoln Park, Beck, 50 cent, Rush, Mary J. Blige, Ice Cube, Christina Aguilera, Blink 192, Pink, Nelly Furtato, Jah Rule, Enrique Inlesias and Janet Jackson, to name only a few. He is truly an engineer with a wide range of expertise.'””

    Little strange.

  5. Sintia on May 5, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Your sure right on that one…WWAAAAAAAAYYY out dated on the # of albumsCD’s sold. Sum1 just need to nvent a new plaque that wood electronically tell you an up to date on how many albums sold. hmmmmm Chester wood probably try to rig it! hahaha
Hope you, LP, and your families are all doing good. : )

  12. NoMoreSorrowGirl on May 3, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Hahaha!yeah!…I love Meteora…those plaques are pretty nice…can you erase the word 3 million sold on the plaque!?…it looks dirty…LOL πŸ™‚

  13. Kalini on May 3, 2009 at 1:04 pm

There’s something in the name Meteora, maybe something saint and eternal or just meteoric… hihihi. Mike, have you ever been to Meteora? Not yet? What are you wating for? Yes, you didn’t win all those awards as a result of trying to win them and you didn’t sell so many millions of copies as a result of trying to sell them! To Soyuneik: I found in Wiki: Meteora – over 18 Million Worldwide! The figures say it all. KK

  14. Mireya on May 3, 2009 at 12:56 pm

    Hey Mike,
just letting you know there’s someone in twitter pretending to be you…just in case you want to set the record strait.

    Take care Mike.

    thats gratifying

  29. analoggirl on May 2, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Chemist999’s comment made me laugh. πŸ™‚
It must be nice to have a visual marker of your place in history. Conversely, do you see plaques like these and think about the future? Or are you content to live in the present?
On a parting note, it’s always nice to see Brad. Too bad he doesn’t have a Twitter account – I’d love to read his witticisms.

  30. lucky_cat on May 2, 2009 at 1:11 pm

Hahaha πŸ™‚ “It’s probably a good thing …” LOL, more understatement, please! This picture was not shown in the Q. Jones documentary, thank you πŸ™‚ And yes, not much surprising, I personally prefer “Meteora”.

  31. SalmonSushi on May 2, 2009 at 12:05 pm

    i love linkin park.

  34. liope on May 2, 2009 at 10:42 am

I’m so proud of you guys!! You have succeed so much in so short of time and that is stunning!! Would you ever expect your plaque to be next to Michael Jackson’s??

  35. nillp on May 2, 2009 at 9:32 am

the waiting for this new song is killing me ._.

anyway; great pic and plaque..! unfortunately they don’t make plaques w/ often anymore.. but yeah; LP doesn’t need plaques for us to know LP’s the best! o/~

keep up the great work and take care btw..

    mk’nil β™₯

  36. KOBSHI on May 2, 2009 at 9:32 am

forgive me….this is an off topic comment.
Anyway, Chester has Twitter now, and I have one too, just to get a chance to chat with him, so when is your turn Mike? ha.
    Don’t worry, I still love your always-updated blog : )

  37. rockermeg on May 2, 2009 at 9:16 am

    Wow impressive
That is good-looking plaque right there… right next to that good-looking guitarist πŸ™‚
Have you noticed it looks a lot bigger than those around it? Just saying…
Good luck with the mastering and mixing, can’t wait to hear the song

  38. PinkyLouloulp on May 2, 2009 at 8:54 am

That is just awesome. Way to go!

    Brad looks good!

  39. JoeyDC on May 2, 2009 at 8:39 am

It’s really amazing to see all those plaques hanging on the wall. So much music history there! By the way, I love the photo! Good choice to take one of Brad this time ;). Thanks for sharing, Mike. It’s funny how “3 million sold” was written on the plaque. I do wonder what’s the current status of that…

  40. PankakeMunky on May 2, 2009 at 7:29 am

i always find it interesting to look at all of the plaques on the wall. it’s just a wall full of history and random facts for you to learn about. it’s also funny to see everyone else’s plaque around yours being framed the old school way: with a black frame. then i see the meteora and it looks like it came from the way future with it’s awesome shinyness.

  41. cuz on May 2, 2009 at 5:58 am

You know what? I like Michael Jackson very much. I grew up on him and Queen. But now LP’s my world πŸ™‚ Such wall is a great thing. And N.W.A. as well!

Too bad that labels don’t make plaques that much, but even that “3 Million” is amazing! Hope you’re having a great time working on a song!

  42. Wotur11 on May 2, 2009 at 5:38 am

Brad is more handsome and cuter lol :)) Yes i agree wit ya alll Meteora is the best album than ever πŸ˜› i never feel bored though i listened to it thousands of times lol πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ all nu metal-rap songs are always incredible πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ FAINT FOREVER :)) ~ i cant wait to hear LP’s song of Transformer2 and your new album πŸ™‚ hope it will have the heaviest nu metal-rap songs like meteora πŸ˜€ have a nicccccccccccccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee day mikey πŸ™‚ love yaaaaaaaaaaa :**********~~

  43. Chemist999 on May 2, 2009 at 5:37 am

Brad should be careful with his cup of… whatever it is around those plaques. Though Michael Jackson could use some additional color.

  44. guilhermenight on May 2, 2009 at 5:18 am

ha Mike! Just Linkin Park to do I go to movies see Transformers 2; I watch the Trailer 2, and have a little instrumental part of a music, and if this are the new LP music, i’m pretting excitaded about that! See this drums ______

  45. Lvix on May 2, 2009 at 3:39 am

Yeah, So Meteora sold more copies afther they made that plaque.
But how many copies did you sell right now Mike?

How many MTM record there actually selled? I hope a lot!

  46. big_bad_lukas on May 2, 2009 at 2:39 am

i remember quite long ago there was a chat with chester brother and he showed us a picture of this plaque πŸ™‚ how many copies of meteora did you sell now mike ?

  47. soyuneik on May 2, 2009 at 1:48 am

Buhahaha! That has to be the greatest comment ever. ::In Tears:: I mean there is so much I want to say right now…ask? I got one yesterday, but no where near as extraordinary. You sent me on one of those Wiki voyages. [Meteora: 15 Million Worldwide] Yay new brain creases and if you click the little “1” next to it…it brings you to “Linkin Park Wants Out Of Warner Bros. Contract”(2005). From there, search Lp on Billboard, read the Meteora article titles. Linkin Park Prepares To Ride ‘Meteora’ and Linkin Park Spreads Out On ‘Meteora’… PS: That’s whats she said!

  48. BrazenEntity on May 2, 2009 at 1:12 am

I liked the podium tears, and you found out about a couple of my boogers :)We’ll talk about that later. I blessed some issues today- ENTITIES KEPT CALLING ME A SWINE, for like, 4 months now- The earthquakes are a result of negativity… and Venice, we can fix… I didn’t mean to cause the earthquakes. Roy and I have been disagreeing, and he’s got 5 heads, and they all use him for what they can get, and, he met me, so………. I’m really deep, and my chi is disagreeing with his innocence in that I know he’s not telling the truth. I’ve been back up, really, for about a month. It’s been great talking to you. My feelings say more than my words… But the words are coming back! NUSHIES πŸ˜‰

  49. RazToritsuki on May 2, 2009 at 1:07 am

You guys have the shiniest plaque on the wall there. It’s very pretty. But since it’s outdated you guys should get a new one and i’ll get rid of the old one for ya πŸ˜€

  51. Neem on May 2, 2009 at 12:02 am

Ah…Meteora. It’s one of my favourite albums ever! Helped me pull through a pretty rough patch.” that “3 Million” is way outdated…” No way, just shows you how much you’ve accomplished and continue making us proud fans! Love you all!

  52. RoseLplover on May 1, 2009 at 11:58 pm

haha i love brad!…meteora is probably the best album ever made, the lyrics of it and the screaming with rap mike πŸ™‚ i dunno the best!!! ..and u guys are the nu metal hip hop rulers…and also proved that you are the masters of music in general cause minutes to midnight album is awesome though it doesn’t sound like meteora at all…. love lp forever…

  53. Lyra on May 1, 2009 at 11:13 pm

  56. ThunderStrike on May 1, 2009 at 10:53 pm

I bet it’s a real honor for you guys to share a wall with Thriller. And I don’t care how many copies Meteora sells, it’ll always be my favorite album and your six-years-in-the-making song will always have a VERY special place in my heart =]

  57. spraypaintNinkpens on May 1, 2009 at 10:24 pm

Meteora: The perfect album. Six years later and I still listen to Meteora daily; I’m really glad you’re back at NRG.
