Rolling Stone LP album 2010

May 27, 2009

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/05/26/linkin-park-cooking-up-genre-busting-concept-album-for-2010/

EDIT: Incidentally, I think he misheard me when I said I wouldn’t call this a concept album, but that’s OK. You get the point…we are striving to make something fresh. Whether we get there or not, at least that’s where we’re trying to go🙂

Not to be rude but the last album was fresh… and I was disappointed in that, we loved the old stuff. I mean no offense Mike but you got the majority of your fans from the first 2 albums because the way you guys played, you rapped and Chester did his thing (lol, I don’t know what to call it) but I remember reading somewhere that you guys said it was about the fans. Minutes to Midnight was a disappointment at first… but it did grow on me. The fans are wanting something that hits them hard, fast and holds they’re attention, and that’s exactly what your first 2 albums did. The fans still have your backs for now, but if you don’t act soon I fear you will loose us.😦 Love you guys still.

Looks like you don’t eat at McDonald’s at all!…haha!

And Rolling Stones readers don’t like Linkin Park either!

It’s ok as long as you get some good comment here and I don’t think you read those comments at Rolling stones saying,’Shinoda sounds like d*ck here!…ehehe!that’s what I reAD!

    Take care:)

  3. K33GAN on May 30, 2009 at 11:25 am

Well Mike i have been getting kinda worried that you might not have enough confiance in the new album since you keep saying “we are striving to make something fresh. Whether we get there or not” so instead of that just say it’s the future of music lol … man that joke doesn’t work only in text … no!!!! but love the stuff also if that intro music on the new LPTV video something off the new album?

    Interesting.

  9. Anstice on May 29, 2009 at 1:58 pm

@YourConscience: Clare, you neglect to inform Mike that we will be hanging with he and the other members of LP in the studio quite soon. And that’s not just dreaming😄. I can’t wait to hold your bebe, though.
And people are bitching up and down about the new song and the new sound of LP. I left the LPMB because of it. Keep going on with it, Mike =)

  10. YourConscience on May 29, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Mmmm… Comparing music to food… Now I can COMPLETELY relate… ^_^ I can hardly wait for the new album. And I can hardly wait to meet you and the guys! But I can totally wait for Glorious Excess (Dies). Because, you know, I’ll be in the hospital having my first baby during that time… Thanks, Mike. I wasn’t looking forward to it or anything. SIGH

Just kidding. Haha. Have a fun day!

What’s up with all the food metaphors???
Hahaha!! I think the junk-food one worked nicely🙂
What type of food would this album be Mike?
    xxx

  15. liope on May 29, 2009 at 2:50 am

Or when you were doing the interview you were hungry or Brad inspired you by his example with hamburgers!!!😛

  16. KOBSHI on May 29, 2009 at 2:10 am

No offense here too(and with love).I’ve to say,the previous post’ve claimed exactly what I’m feeling about LP forthcoming album, that also is a reason why this post got fewer responses, from my point of view of cause.I try to clarify my thoughts after I read the interview, but I fell apart. You said a new direction, but what do you mean by new?and true that, you’ve said it before.Or lesser rock elements music style is where you try to go?Honestly,M2M is my least loved LP album.I’m not saying I don’t feel excited about 4th album, but I’m not quite sure it’ll amaze me…I don’t know, maybe I just have too high expectation on you guys..its unfair to you,I know.Anyway,LP is my most favoritest band ever.

  17. evanjealous on May 29, 2009 at 12:03 am

No offense Mike but it sounds like your creating way too much hype for the new album. You’re claiming that LP is inventing a “new genre” with this album. And you’re claiming that it will sound like nothing anyone has ever heard because its so unique. I wouldn’t be surprised if the new album doesn’t meet all the hype. In fact, you guys said the exact same thing about Minutes to Midnight. M2M isn’t a new genre its just generic alternate rock. Plus M2M sounds exactly like all other 8000 alternate rock bands out there. At least Hybrid Theory sounded remotely different from the rest of the nu metal bands.

  18. DAVIDX on May 28, 2009 at 10:23 pm

yeah but what does it mean Rolling Stone LP album??o_O sound like Rolling Stones or what? lol can’t get that.

  19. DJFriction on May 28, 2009 at 7:35 pm

screw wat those other negatives think, do wat u want, its ur music, u make anything u want, dont do other stuff just because other people tell u, i loved ur old music, i still love ur new music. i just cant w8 to here the nu album!! good luck, i kno u guys have been working really hard! new devide was awesome too! cant w8 for the music video!

  20. soyuneik on May 28, 2009 at 3:08 pm

lol, you know what I like? That in the first few sentences they say that your album is going to be “so unique”. Woot! World domination here I come!
Of course you know that it doesn’t necessarily mean others won’t attempt to categorize it within the confines of their own perceptions…. Just making that statement alone plants some very important seeds. Do it, I know you can.

  21. Diana_LP_adicted on May 28, 2009 at 2:25 pm

THE ANALOGY WITH THE JUNK FOOD WORKED !! … I TALK FOR MYSELF… I DID UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT –TOTALLY NEW MUSIC , ALWAYS WITH THE BAND SPIRIT :D… I’M ANXIOUS TO TASTE THIS “NEW FOOD” HEHE love you

  22. Estelwen on May 28, 2009 at 12:54 pm

“I think he misheard me when I said I wouldn’t call this a concept album” I quote from the article: “Shinoda says the record ISN’T what he would describe as a concept album” so he didn’t mishear you..

  23. AggelosLP on May 28, 2009 at 12:51 pm

i really like New Divide and i think that you shouldn’t care about what others say about linkin park . Just do your fantastic job !!!!!! Also I’d like to tell you that since I listen to the first linkin park song , i wanted to learn how to play the guitar , so i bought one ! i started playing guitar only for you Mike ! When did you started playing guitar? Please respond… i ‘m looking forward to see you in Greece!

  24. Madlen on May 28, 2009 at 12:08 pm

You make it sound so amazingly awesome that it makes me even more exticed to hear it:D

  25. mraznxcrazyxboi on May 28, 2009 at 11:19 am

Mike How do you fell about all the negative comments from the readers at rolling stone? do you have anything to say to them?
if so what would it be

by the way can’t wait for the New LP record😀

and i also heard on lplive.net you guys are going to play shanghai in august 15th is that true?

  26. ShadowerLiltani on May 28, 2009 at 11:14 am

Good article. Not the most amazing article I’ve ever read, but I like to hear where you are going with the album in general. It’s kinda funny to me that he got the name of the movie wrong. Usually, Mike, when you back up Linkin Park’s music, you often sound like you either offended by fans’ reactions, or you come off as a little insecure. I think this is the first time I’ve heard you explain your music and be diplomatic about it. No more whiney Mike! Yay! bounces (You couldn’t be any more of an Aquarius).

  27. Sintia on May 28, 2009 at 11:05 am

well 1st of all I do agree with — sz_David– about the Rolling Stone comments. I believe you can’t satisfy everyone in this world. To each of their own. Some ppl like milk & sum don’t. There are even ones that don’t like ice cream (gasps surprise, surprise!!) and ppl who do. You know of all people in this industry that everyone will have an opinion regardless if its good or bad. You do what you feel, work heart out (as usual), & as long as your satisfied and happy with the outcome then that is what matters. Linkin Park got this far for this long just being themselves & kept growing as artists. MK…I put my 2cents in. haha. I hope you, LP, and your families are doing good & healthy. : )

  28. Marii on May 28, 2009 at 10:40 am

I can’t wait for another great album of yours🙂 I’m sure it’s gonna be another masterpiece =)
Keep on going guys😀 …. and please please if you can come to Slovenia😛

  29. RYU_08 on May 28, 2009 at 10:27 am

    I CAN’T WAIT😄

  30. sz_David on May 28, 2009 at 7:07 am

Hmmm…I read the interview. The junk food-junk music thing really fits to the situation in my opinion.
But then I read the comments. And it looks Rolling Stone readers are not the #1 Linkin Park fans.
And I’m wondering, do you get these reactions anywhere else, outside of the “LP base”?
(because usually in LP related sites you always get “LP is the best” and comments like this….)
How do you feel about these negative comments? (don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan)

  31. Charlotte_Jay on May 28, 2009 at 6:06 am

Mike, I believe you guys will make a whole new genre with your new album.New Divide is so unique, more tracks like that will make an awesome and unique album. You guys are so hardworking and talented and always have some new ideas to make great music, you always make music that sounds just like you.

Good Luck, Linkin Park deserves the best.

  33. RazorbladeXtreme on May 28, 2009 at 1:33 am

Thanks to the one who posted about Fort Minor(2-3 days ago). I’m glad I got to learn about it. It worked greatly in pleasing me and fulfilling my needs aroused due to lack of rap in M2M. BTW I wish a song like Second to None in next album, although I know you’d give us something exotic this time.

  34. ThunderStrike on May 27, 2009 at 11:37 pm

The more interviews you post the harder it becomes (for me) to wait for the new album!! I hope September comes soon…and please don’t put so much of your FM energy into this album so it becomes soft. Thanks =]

  35. maria on May 27, 2009 at 11:34 pm

yeah, Mike! I agree with you. ) And could be so kind to give us a link on new divide? it’s a divine song!

  36. numbrocker02 on May 27, 2009 at 11:05 pm

  38. Wotur11 on May 27, 2009 at 9:39 pm

  39. analoggirl on May 27, 2009 at 7:52 pm

I’m sensing a deep love for extended metaphors. haha (Cigarettes is my favourite FM song, btw.)

I’m glad the band is taking a new direction with the forthcoming album. Also, it’ll be interesting to hear hip hop elements on an LP record again.

  40. felipeintheend on May 27, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Hey Mike, There is no way for the band create a video live section? where you guys could put some live videos from 2001 to 2008, etc..? As i can see, Mark Fiore record every show, so it could be easy. We got the LPTV, and what about LPLTV ? (LP Live TV) heh. Hope you reply to me! Thanks

  41. Ranger111133 on May 27, 2009 at 6:45 pm

YES!!!!! more FM stuff!!!!! this is gonna b an amazing album….can’t wait for it to come out!!

  42. Maaark on May 27, 2009 at 4:08 pm

No Mike, they wrote that this album ISN’T what you would call a concept album. It’s exactly what you meant right? By the way, I can’t wait to listen to your new stuff. You’re always describing it as something different from what we’re used to see and listen, which makes me feel more and more anxious about it. Seriously, I don’t know what to expect from this album. I should be used to that (because you’re always surprising me) and honestly I’m so happy that you’re trying different things that will make your music sounds more unique than it already was! That’s why you all rock.

Take care man, have a nice week!

  43. Sharisse on May 27, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Thanks for sharing this with us. I can’t wait to hear what you guys have been working so hard on. Every time I read one of these interviews, I get more and more excited and impatient to finally be able to hear the new album. =)

Or you’ll come in the end of the tour of the new album ?? +/- more 4 years..do you have idea what it is ?? BRazil without LP 9 years ?? ¬¬ you know..

Well, now I see … as a nutritionist and a person who is working with organic victuals, inter alia, this announcement really appeal to me. I’m very exited what you’re cooking for us :))

  47. NataliaForgotten on May 27, 2009 at 2:08 pm

I’m happy that you guys are working hard for this album and trying to make something new again.🙂 I don’t know exactly what to expect from this album (more instrumentals and rap, maybe), but I definitely trust you. Thanks for making me more excited than I was, ha! It’s growing with each interview!

  48. itsme on May 27, 2009 at 2:01 pm

I can’t wait for the new album!!! I know it’s gonna be great, and i hope it’s gonna be a lot of rapping on the new album.

  49. MS_Ineedyou on May 27, 2009 at 1:19 pm

“They want throw-away junk food music that’s going to make them lethargic and fat.” XDD i was laughing so hard at that XDD “lethargic and fat” hahahah !! I love your interviews, Mike🙂 Can’t WAIT for the next album !!! Every time i read about it i get chills —Brooke .

  50. Andrey_Alex on May 27, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Well, conceptual album or not, if you guys make an album with eight tracks, the lenght from the songs must be long. Or the experience will be short and without a great, how can I say… without a glow. But you make the music! It’s only a fan opinion!

I’m waiting for the album of the year! o/

  51. Eddie on May 27, 2009 at 12:43 pm

I’ve just read the interview!!!! Your new album is going to be awesome! Whatever, and again, WHATEVER you said was totally right! My favorite “They’re going to have to come up with a new genre name for what this record is.” and the “junk” music stuff you said (it will exceed the letter limit if I put it here). Oh, what you’ve done now Mike….. I want to go to September, get the “Out Of Ashes”, then go to 2010, get the LP new album! Haha! I’m so glad for what I read and I can’t wait for the new album! Take care Mike!

  52. bojkic on May 27, 2009 at 12:06 pm

Good interview! I hope you will be able to acheive all of this. I know you’ll try hard. Are you going to be producing it?

I’ve just left two comments on that interview under names boki and bojan. It seems those LP haters never sleep, but we are thaere to put them in their place.😀

Good luck and great fun making the other half of the album. See you 3 times this summer in Europe.😀
    Bojan, Serbia

  55. RachaelLP on May 27, 2009 at 11:49 am

“They’re going to have to come up with a new genre name for what this record is.” Makes me nervous when you say things like this, ha. Looking forward to whatever you come up with.
