I just realized I haven’t done a “responses to fans” post in a while. Gimme some ideas: what do you want me to post about? Suggestions and questions are welcome…

Hello Mike! I’ve got a question. Why the choice on meet & greet is random? There’re a lot of LPU’s fans who have never been to meet & greet. And those who do get there are those people who have payed for Online Only Pass. What is the reason then to buy an expensive PREMIER Pass if the chances are equal?

i dunno whether you still read the thread, but
it’ll be awesome if you post some more info anout the upcoming Glorious Exsess show..
i’m planning my visit to the US now and coming to the GLXS myself is one of the most desired dream of me )))
so that information would be super-significant )))

hey Mike i think you should have a section in your blog where fans like me lol can put up our own artworks so that you and us aka the fans can comment on them (and share the techniques, ideas too, or even a hUGE project by fans and you Mike Shinoda too- huhmmm i never think of that!!!!………) Sorry for my crappy English lol, oh anyway , LP and FM are the best!!!!

Hi mike from Australia,
Simple question – will there be a reanimation pt 2?
This cd changed my life, Imagine all the new songs remixed! Please give any hint on whether this has been spoken about or a possiblity. Obviously you probably cant confirm or deny whether it will happen, but seriously this album was truly brilliant, a new one with the new songs would be awesome!
Michael1904 on June 28, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Hey Mike, when I was younger, I found the LPTV episodes you did in 2003 really inspiring, and I love the DVDs you’ve put out with Meteora, The Rising Tied, and Minutes To Midnight. I like your idea of showing the creation process, instead of just the final product.
Would you consider expanding on this concept, and show us more of how you work musically? Like, a Day In The Life at your home studio or something. Or maybe show off some of the gear you use, like the Virus TI that you used on Kimmel for New Divide.
Any more insights into your musical creation process would be awesome.

hey mike! i know i’m late with my question, but i’ve just found out about the Hybrid Theory song which is called “She Couldn’t” and don’t really know if it’s really your song.. the style is pretty different from HT but there are your and Chester voices on that track so…

Hi Mike, I saw that you don’t play on your ibanez guitars since 2006. Why ?
dkleung on June 28, 2009 at 3:50 am
How about a post about this rare song that is buzzing around the LP news world. “She Couldn’t” a demo from 1998 Hybrid Theory cd? I heard a snippet of it and i LOVE it, i would love to somehow hear a full version of it but chances of that seems pretty slim. So in conclusion, post something up about things that are rare (maybe forgotten by the Linkin Park group) what i want to know is what is the story behind that song? That should sound pretttty interesting, in fact it would sound delicious! haha

Mike, You have to post a video of you MAKING BEATS!! I’ve been studying your methods ( One 808 kick first for your hooks, organic drums, and patterns, etc.) I”m also a producer who have studied your methods and your ear of sound. I love your simplicity but very depth damage compositions. I love the organic drums you put in your mixtape 2 in fast car. I would like to see how you master too. ^ ^. Inspired me to mix down this Master Mix.(http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=edd4646e4467071167cd7f7bd65f7eefe04e75f6e8ebb871 ) We got one life to live and to teach, pass it on MIKE! Have a good day Mike and clear consciences for inspirations!

Will Linkin Park ever perform in Hawaii? Although we're consisted of seven small islands, there is a HUGE LP fan base. I was fortunate to attend a concert in L.A., but wish you guys can rock out here! I know we will definitely show you guys our Aloha, and if you have time, please check out our Japanese American Cultural Center based in Honolulu. I know you'll enjoy Hawaii, the food, and especially the people! Thank you for being such an inspiration and keep rocking!!! =o)

Hi Mike. I’m really happy to hear about all of the different shows and events you’re participating in with your art, but you haven’t really mentioned Glorious Excess since the (DIES) show was postponed in January. Any news on that, like if you’re working out the schedule with JANM or still working on the pieces themselves? I know you’re busy with the new album, upcoming tour, and upcoming shows, but just wondered what’s up. Thanks!

Hey Mike! As a band, you’ve been together for a while. How has the dynamic amongst the group changed over time? Obviously you are all more experienced and mature, but does it ever feel as though you’re friendships are growing apart? Or have you grown closer over time? Has the stress from the industry, or success of the band changed you as a person? Are there days you ever want to kill each other?

Hello Mike, We are a group of die-hard Linkin Park fans in Taiwan, we are extremely excited about the live concert to be held in Taipei in the coming August. To show our support and enthusiasm for LP, we have designed a T-shirt that incorporate the LP logo and our own ideas. The T-shirt is for ourselves to wear only, and will not be sold for commercial benefits. We’re just writing this letter to make sure that we’ll not infringe the copyright of the band’s logo. All we want to do is to wear this T-shirt to Linkin Park’s concert to show our props for the band. Please let us know whether we can wear this T-shirt to your concert, thank you. http://twpic.org/uploads2/192f738916.jpg

If you go to this site: http://www.archive.org/web/web.php , you can type in a website and see how it was almost anytime from 1996 until now. I did it with the lp and the lpu websites. Some of the photos and links are missing when you ‘go back in time’, but it was VERY interesting to see the first lp websites and remembering how it changed. I am wondering how you and linkin park are changing and if these changes will be good for the die hard fans that were there from the beginning. I am also really curious to know if you are going to rap on the next album. Many fans and I are missing this element of LP that has been taken away from us :(.

My comment or question for you is. knowing that your headlining at summersonic this summer… and that there are going to be vast majority of metal heads at that show… are you guys prepared to drop some ballads like SOTD/LOATR even tho they are singles? Are you guys going to lean towards a more hard rock/ fast tempo set list? i can see you guys doing…. Reading my eyes, a place for my head, with you, by myself, no more sorrow, given up, faint, new divide… lying from you, the little things, breaking the habit.. maybe like Session/cure for the itch for Joe to be more vocal i guess you can say during performances. Maybe the infamous no roads left? haha fans want that angel voice mike haha

I don’t really have anything to ask which I don’t already know (or at least, I don’t think I do) but I do have two comments on previous blogs you’ve made. First one is, you posted a video a while back called ‘Top That’, which I hate you for because I feel that when I get bored these days, it starts playing in my head… (haha, I don’t really hate you, but man it just won’t stop) ;p Secondly, a longer while back, you posted music recommendations and one artist you mentioned was Santogold so I checked out her album and it’s now one of my favourites… so thanks for that… I think that’s it. Keep it going! 🙂

i doubt that you will have a chance to read this since you are a busy person. but to just put it out there… iv noticed that in most of the soundtracks for movies that linkin park has appeard on that another band is almost ALWAYS there with you guys. its disturbed. i was just wondering if you guys have any connections or might appear in a concert together. which brings me to another question. do you choose who comes with you on tour? or is that the recored company? oh and one more question you know how hip-hop artist feature people on there songs.. would a band ever do that. i think it would be cool. Linkin Park feat.Disturbed. (p.s. i know i cant spell)
_EniX_ on June 23, 2009 at 4:57 am
Mike, for me, you and your band are the bests in the world, your music is really very varied and I find it exellent in words as in sound (with LP like with Fort minor). Hybrid Theory record mixed all styles I like, Meteora was a kind of evolution for me, until Minutes To Midnight which turned to a style of harder rock…
So this is my question :
Will the next album get closer to one of these records or will it be completely different that we expect ?
Thank you and thanks the band for being so exellent !!!
And pleassssssssse come in Belgium !!! ❤
Tip805 on June 23, 2009 at 1:10 am
I’m a REALLY big fan of yours/ Linkin Park. Your music really inspires me to try to make it in the music industry and pretty much life in general. You and your team are a breath of fresh air compared to other artists out there that are putting out mediocre material.
My questions concern the upcoming LP album. What kind of style can we expect with this new album; whether it be going back to Hybrid Theory or just sticking with the way M2M went. Are we going to see more songs like New Divide? And who were your influences back when you were still trying to break through?
It would be amazing if you got back to me on this, once again I’m a huge fan of yours and it would be an honor(:

Hello,I have a question. My acquaintance..When they were young,he was aiming at a painter. He went to a university while working, actuality dosen’t seem to have gone well. It’s open somehow while working with the gallery now. But maintenance in an gallery is also by the serious state. I think Mr. Mike is one who has got his “dream.” (You’d need a considerable effort to arrive there.) He’s also exerting himself for his “dream” now..If there is advice, please..!

Hi Mike, thanks for being so close to the fans.
Question: I’m from Chile, Linkin Park has never come to my country, I wonder if someday you will visit South America.
Suggestion: You could make an album with instrumental versions of old songs from Linkin Park. We really want it 🙂
Thanks Mike. There are so many beautiful people waiting for you in Chile.

O.o XDD miss them too, so, are you ?? It’s okay if you don’t get back to me though, cause i’m pretty sure someone already asked you this, it’d just be awesome if you answered ME back XDD Have a nice day 🙂 —Brooke . P.S — my mom won’t let me download photoshop for that LPU contest because it associates with Linkin Park (yet she let me join LPU) .. do you know where i can download a free trial without making an account ? cause i tried adobe.com but she won’t let me make an account _

You do quite a bit of artwork,(I know understatement), can you do some artwork for videogame consoles? Kinda like your skateboards(which I bought all 3 btw at the Japanese Museum in LA when you did your art thing), basically a PS3 or Xbox 360 special MS edition, If not, at least convince Joe Hahn to do it! I took a pic with that dude at the Street Fighter 4 launch so I know he likes video games! lol
Are there any plans of a Linkin Park Guitar Hero bundle thing kinda like Metallica’s? I do understand it would be hard but I think it would be awesome. I can only imagine how complicated it can be just to produce this project tho.

burningdaylight on June 22, 2009 at 1:52 pm
hey mike! not sure if this will get to you, but there’s one question i’ve always wanted to get answered: over on the LPU boards, one of the members made a thread about there being a “stigma” associated with being a LP fan. the gist of the thread was that LP fans are stereotyped as “goths” “emos” “kids who cut themselves” etc., and are bullied for it. my question is: what kind of advice would you give to fans who are being bullied for liking LP (or being bullied for their interests in general)?

hey Mike I have 2 questions:
1. MS DC:
Beside the new Xander there’s also a new black MS DC. What can you tell us about that shoe?
New LP music:
You mentioned in a interview with the Rolling Stone magazin that Linkin Park wants to go in a more “substantial” direction. I’m really excited about that 🙂 Did you mean with that interview, that we will hear for example some Jazz elements or other music directions we usually don’t hear in mondern Rock music?
Wish you a lot of fun at the Transformers 2 premiere tonight 🙂

I think that there are many LP fans that try to reproduce the sound you guys create to play at home.
Maybe you can tell us what is the most versatile, good sounding ( in your opinon ) guitar amplifier that we guitarists could buy for a reasonable price? That would be sweet! Even more because when you ask other people about it, the only thinig you’ll get is every freakin time another answer and well, the only one who we can trust on this is you ( and the other guys ).
Oh, don’t know if this already did occur some other time on your blog, but maybe your favorite Japanese dishes are interesting! ( I love Japanese food haha! ). But pls if you do this one also choose my first Q!

1) Flashbacks/Back in the day’s would be nice. (especially if they were of prehistoric band moments from your teens, college days, and even from before) But even random stuff like when you mentioned your first car was also quite funny and interesting. Another example would be your interview with Carson Daly talking about rapping in elementary school and not knowing what anything meant lol. 2) Art related, I always love your promo posts but: more tutorials? college experience w/Joe and advice for anyone going into the art world? 3) You wear skate shoes, but did you skate when you were younger? 4) I still want to know your favorite anime series. Seriously.

Hi Mike!I know that some people want you to do some instrumental songs or beats! I know that you haven’t got a lot of time, but you know that a lot of rappers, producers, singers.. listen to your music. You can do one or some special instrumental beats and put it on the internet to sell it. It could be called “Beat for relief”, like your “Music for relief” campaign. Hundreds of people will be interested in your beats or instrumental tracks and more people will know the “Music for relief” project!!! do you know how many people want to rap or sing in one of your compositions? Please, think it… Sorry for my poor english! i’m a musician from spain…

how u actually go about writing a song/ album. not just hearing a song half finnished and u playing with protools, but the beginning as in do u play an idea into ur pc or write it down on a stave or in tab form?? then how the song comes together. do u experiment with loops or is the whole thing played live straight to the computer?? are ur songs really as complicated as they sound?,….
and 1 other thing will projekt revolution ever come as far as australia?? 🙂

I think it would be cool if you keep introducing independent artists (like you did with “promote yourself”). It’s a priceless thing for new artists.

hi Mike….its true there are a lot of fans in Venezuela ;)…i’d like to see lp in person being in a concert in 1st line an being washed with chester swet and your saliva at rapping xDDDD….i think you shuld post more info about LP like how many songs will the upcoming album have :D….or some videos about the making off or about the ensay you gave for MFR 😉 i really want to see you performing New Divide live (excellent song by the way :P)

Things about music artists that’ve always interested me, is how they actually create music. I mean, I’ve seen your “Making of the Record” DVD special editions numerous times, but I’ve never seen how a song gets started, and then ended. It’s always been just kind of “Here it is almost done……aannndddd, now we’re done, TADA!” Also, if you happen to have backstage footage of tours, or stuff fans don’t normally get to see…set up, tear downs – the part that’s lame, and unglamorous. I’m also really sincerely curious to know…is it difficult to stay connected with fans, yet be able to maintain your distance? I’m sure it must be a weird fine line…
Thanks for being dope,
JRock4589 on June 21, 2009 at 6:59 pm
I agree with ‘drummerdalziel’, seeing something like a day in the life of mike shinoda would be FANTASTIC….maybe hanging with the band or you guys just being goofy? i would enjoy that a lot 😀
durg on June 21, 2009 at 5:46 pm
i think you should pop in the LPU chat sometimes, just to shaken/liven things up, haha.
DRUMMERDALZIEL on June 21, 2009 at 5:30 pm
I think something really ordinary, like a video blog of ‘a day in the life of mike shinoda’. you getting up, eating breakfast, kissing your wife goodbye, goofing off with the band, driving around etc. people seem to like that whole ‘celebrities are normal people too’ concept. As for questions, I have none of any intelligence or significance. Story of my life 😄

How come no project revolution this year? are you guys too busy with your new album? When will you start touring with the new music?

Questions : Why “The little things give you away” is so important for you ?
What is your favorite song to play on stage ?
There will be another version of “New devide” video (with flying scenes and … Phoenix) ?
How do you feel when you’re about to leave home for a tour around the world ?
Have you ever heard about Jiro Taniguchi (Japanese manga drawer) ?
Suggestions : Tell us more about Glorious Excess (Die),

Have a nice sunday, Virginie

i was wondering about the transformers: revenge of the fallen score. the tracks were announced a while ago, and i only see one with credit given to LP. it says “contains instrumental clips of ‘new divide’ by linkin park.”
so i was wondering: did you guys even work on that, or did hans zimmer and his team just take clips for new divide? also, did you guys work on any other songs on the score? i was looking forward to hearing what you can do as a score, and i hope that you guys had a part in all of them.
Monika_FC on June 21, 2009 at 2:17 pm
I had never listened to Fort Minor’s “Get Me Gone” until a few days ago. I got a little bit shocked by the beginning of the song. I wonder how you felt, Mike, because I would have felt really awful, probably as if I was just too much in the band. Could you tell us something about that? Anyway, thanks God that you didn’t listen to those fools 🙂
Also, I’m deeply disappointed because the smaller size of the Xander shoes is huge!! xD Why aren’t we small-footed people entitled to wear cool shoes?? xD
Thanks!! Greetings from Spain, hope you come soon…. ¬¬
PS: I missed your rapping in Minutes To Midnight. I ask you as a personal favor to rap a little more in the next album please!!
Jome on June 21, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Mike, what I would really love to hear about is your experiences from around the world. You’ve travelled in so many countries with Linkin Park. What have been interesting, surprising, funny, scary, exhilarating etc. Tell us some stories from various places you’ve been and show some pictures 🙂
Thanks for an amazing blog!

You were right–The Happening is pretty much one the worse movies I’ve ever seen. That’s saying a lot because I have seen some pretty horrible films including a few by Uwe Boll and one called Ninja Cheerleaders…Anyway, I agree with what I believe someone else suggested. I think it would be good idea to post some movie reviews. I think it would be also good to implement some more video blogs–perhaps more of the band working on the new album.
PankakeMunky on June 21, 2009 at 1:56 pm
you should tell us funny stories about anything random that happens during your day. another thought would be for you to create a massive transformers costume out of cardboard, wear it to the premiere of the movie and/or take tons of pictures of it. then have one huge transformers battle go on with other people

Ooh! You might like doing some stuff with people’s covers, like when you did the xefusioner’s thing. I know that was a huge motivation for me when I did a new divide cover. Like… yeah. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uLSxMAxSTE 🙂

I´ve got one question that I know now. I wrote a letter for you Guys but I am not sure if I should send it. So my question is: Do you read the letters from your Fans on your own or is this to much to read every letter? And do you answer this so that your Fans can be sure that you get the letter and you also read it? So I´ve got the adress of Machine shop recordings and I like to know if this is the right adress. Oh, I remembered another question that I like to ask you. Do you have on your Concerts something like an autograph session before or after it. Till present I haven´t any opportunity to go on one of your concerts, but I see this almost always in some videos.
StrangeGirl1 on June 21, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Hmmm, I would like for you to post about sunshine, rainbows, evil carebears, and unicorns. Thank you.
As for a question(s): I thought it was great LP got to go to Egypt to shoot the ‘new divide’ video. Did you get to do any sightseeing? You’ve been around the world about a bagillion times. Can you suggest a few interesting places to check out?
I suggest the Mutter museum: http://www.muttermuseum.org/

Thank you for giving us the chance Mike, I was wondering if you could give us some more tips on art stuff like painting and song writing becuase there are a lot of begginers here on your site, including me, and one more thing…could you please share some of your expriences about starting a band? thank you again.
You’re very caring about your fans Mike 🙂
Thom_ on June 21, 2009 at 11:45 am
Mike as someone new to producing music remixes it would be brilliant if you could post a small video of some techniques you use when you want to produce a new mix. Whether you were to talk about how you obtain the neccessary tracks (I assume you are able to purchase studio tracks from actual artists somehow? I like many others basically grab whatever instrumentals / acapellasI can get!) or effects you use to transition between songs, maybe something on musical key, or finding tracks that go together… maybe even something on the legal complications of producing a remix, or just walk us through how you’d create an original beat! Some of your Fort Minor backing tracks are simply outstanding.
danielpsoad09 on June 21, 2009 at 11:33 am
Hey Mike, I have a question for you.
You said many times that in the process of making M2M, you were cutting songs almost every day. So at the end of the process, you just recorded 17 or 18 songs.
Well, you released 12 songs on M2M, plus No Roads Left which was a bonus track.
Now my question is, where are the rest of those songs (for example the one with the working title ‘Japan’)?
Why don’t you release them?
I’m sure they’re good enough to be heard.
Greetings from Chile !

Hey Mike, you could give a rap lesson too 🙂
My idea was, that you could write something more about Art Center College of Design in Pasadena…I know, that this collage have website but I think it´s better, when someone (who attended this collage) write something about it :).
I want to attend this collage, hence I write you. Thanks Zuzaca 😛

Write more stuff that we can all learn from. You have had a lot of interesting experiences in your life from the success of LP and other projects and a lot of kids look up to you. Your graduation speech was great, more stuff like that please. More about the creative process, how to deal with things, personal philosophies even everything down to managing everything you find interesting, projects, time yourself etc. I think a lot of people could learn a lot from you and you have the position and the platform here to make an impact.

I’ve planned a lot of question but after i read this post my mind was blowing freely (means i’ve forgotten) but here are some of the question. what does the song “hands held high” mean? I made a lot of research on it but still found nothing so i hope you will answer me because i want to erase some confession in mind pls XD. will mike do a lot rapping in this new album, because your rapping was one of the pieces from original lp (definitely serious, man!) . i am suggesting that you (mike) to form back your side project “fort minor” because i love your song like “where’d you go” and i love to collect lp stuff. Sry for my english. TQ 😀

hi, mike. i have a question~ your band do a lot of shows every year. do you guys feel tired of all the tours? i feel it’s just impossible for me to sing almost the same songs everyday or travel from country to country. although i’d like to go to your shows as much as possible and really excited about the shows, i just want to know your feelings about it. thanks. :))

PinkyLouloulp on June 21, 2009 at 4:43 am
I wanted to know if New Divide is a continuation of What Iv’e Done. I’m asking this because a lot of people seem to think that the sound is very similar and since you guys wrote it for the second Transformers movie it seems like a sequel. Thanks for the opportunity. 🙂
YourConscience on June 21, 2009 at 4:33 am
You can ask Rob if he wants a pregnant nerd by his side at the Transformers premier, then post his answer? smiles hopefully
Hmmm, how about you post some “making of Glorious Excess (Dies)” pictures? Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make the art show in August, so I’ve been hoping for something to feed my art cravings. =)

Hey Mikey ! I hav the most basic question…Did you ever took any kind of training in music before LP ? Or you have learned everything by your own ? I wanted to know this since like 6 years…I really hope you’ll answer this. Thank you so much !
qwertz on June 21, 2009 at 3:23 am
well, i have a few questions, but they’re pretty… random.
1) what’s up with the radio polls on LPMB? and why have they stopped? we barely even scratched the topic – we listen to a lot more stuff than just that!
2) it seems there was an entire day of footage scrapped while making the New Divide video. how so?
3) how are the tours planned? do you get a say in where you tour to?
4) what does Brad think about Britney’s latest album? 😄 <—before anyone flames me for this
and yea, knowing where you get your info about all this exciting art would be a useful thing to know.
(does Apocalyptica ring a bell to you?)

I have a question. i read a LP intervew yesterday about Minutes to Midnight and yall said “The little things give you away” is the most important song in the album. I was wandering why is that song so important for you? Is the song meaning for someone in particular?
Take care and have a great day.

Cintya on June 21, 2009 at 1:49 am
Hey Mike, I have a really old question….I was part of the lucky LPU fans that got chosen to be part of the Faint video. That was both a great and exhausting day, I still can’t believe you guys do that! I have never jumped and screamed so much in my life! Anyways, I remember there was a guy or two taping the events of that day, did that footage ever make it anywhere? I would really love to remember that day, and see some old friends. Also, I remember you announced that we would get something in the mail for being so patient that day, did you or the guys know that nothing was sent? I ask this because, I wonder if there are things that your bosses do that you don’t know about?

First of all, Thanks.
Now as for the topic for discussion perhaps informing us on particular music software you like to use. I know thanks to the episode of LPTV you really enjoy PRO TOOLS. Have you used Reason or Logic? Any other software? And maybe spend a little on how you use them with each album. Do you use one software for a whole album or do you use several? Thanks again.
Also here is a link to some instrumentals I’ve created. I would appreciate feedback . Thanks.

Can’t wait for the next album, and keep up the good work!
spraypaintNinkpens on June 20, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Mike please post a topic about Fort Minor. I’m a little confused what’s going on because at the end of the making of The Rising Tied, you said “you’re still hungry” implying another rap album by you was in the works. Four years later, FM fans are still wondering what’s going on. I understand you’re busy with LP, your artwork and other musical productions here and there but I think true FM fans just feel a little lost about what we can expect in the future. I apologize for being so upfront about the Fort Minor subject because you seem to not want to talk about it but I’m sure you know how it is when you’re just literally dying for your favorite band to make that next record.

I was thinking about this and thought that ‘A Day in the Life of Mike Shinoda’ would be fun. You know, like a log. 9:00am – Woke up, 10am-12pm – watched TV, 1:00pm – went to work on the CD, 1:10pm – decided that the CD can wait, etc.
We often forget that your a normal person, and its always nice to be reminded of that. =)

Hey Mike, this is a question that I have been wanting to ask you for a very, very long time. When you released lockjaw to the LPU (I know, it was a while ago), there was a lot of argument over whether or not to share the song, and those who did (youtube, etc) were pretty much hated by their fellow LPUers for sharing an LPU exclusive song. What is your stance on sharing music, especially LPU exclusive music?, since it is made solely for LPU, not youtube.

During last years Projekt Revolution Tour I won a backstage pass wih Joe and Brad before the show (Mansfield, MA 7-16-2008). I had asked if there were anyplans to do another Reanimation type album. I was told there would be something “similar, but completely different”. I haven’t heard anything else about something like that. Is it still (or was it ever) being produced?
(Also in the little booklets that were handed out with the line-up and a mini-bio for each band Joe’s name was missing from the members of Linkin Park.)
Elliandria on June 20, 2009 at 5:38 pm
This may be, you know, terribly audacious and foolish of me, but I would really love a touch of insight into the lyrics of “The Hard Way.” I really adore the lyrics to it – in fact, it’s my go-to song when I’m either in a horrible mood or needing a bit of creative encouragement. I know it’s sort of an unofficial rule to not talk about what goes into the lyrics of your songs, but if you’d be willing to give us just a hint of what inspired the lyrics, I’d be incredibly appreciative!
Also, thanks for just making this post. It’s such a nice thing for you to do. 🙂

U know what I want to an actual HD quality version of your new music video “New Divide”….all of the versions I’ve seen so far kinda have a low quality to them…and yes I do realize that some of the scenes in it are meant to b like that but still some scenes that look fine don’t have any high quality to them whatsoever….I was slightly disappointed just saying
bec on June 20, 2009 at 5:19 pm
suggestions of things you can talk about:
1) Your personal life…haha only kidding!
2) Besides Transformers what summer blockbuster are you looking forward to? Will you be in fancy dress to see Harry Potter?
3) Having to live on a bus with lots of other men – please shatter the delusions of the fangirls and describe the smells!
4) What do you think of fan-fiction? Can you say Bennoda peaked in 2003 and if you were gay you’d prefer to hook up with ___?
5) When you watch porn do you prefer straight or lesbian?
6) I realise I’ve said some pretty obscure things to you over the years, can you make me feel better and tell me the worst/most offensive thing said to you at a M&G?
lucky_cat on June 20, 2009 at 5:03 pm
On a bunch of interviews you gave recently you said about the new LP album you’re trying to make it “genre busting”. So well, provided that I take that seriously it brings up a lot of questions. I’ve started to think about it, but the questions that come along with it seem to be unlimited. Unfortunately my characters are not … So, I would like to know more about your (and the bands) thoughts that are involved. What are you trying to create and most of all: why? Also, what do people think what “genre busting” could be?
(If it wouldn’t ruin the entire surprise, then I guess I have to wait until next year though 🙂
anthonykerrigan on June 20, 2009 at 4:10 pm
i think as a lot of people look up to you and as you’ve become something like an idol to a lot of people, you should talk about being true to yourself and about making decisions, doing the right thing etc etc
people like to relate to people and you definitely have something to say
you can heavily influence people!
thefly on June 20, 2009 at 4:03 pm
would love to hear you elaborate a little more on your work on the actual score for transformers. the score album doesn’t really feature any original material from you guys, just one track that had obviously parts of new divide incorporated into it. I found that a little disappointing, would have loved to hear more original music by you guys, especially among this “remote control” garbage that jablonsky and I don’t know how many other zimmer clones “composed” (sorry, but this stuff is unbearable for “real” film music buffs)… is there more music from you in the film? did you actually provide additional music, or did jablonsky and co. just take new divide and take it apart?
ryo_ortega on June 20, 2009 at 3:45 pm
hey whats you’re biggest regret? i know it’s not good to dwell on regrets, but its refreshing to know that even stars such as yourself still feel the same ups and downs as the rest of us. are there any things you’ve done in your life that you’ve just never been able to shake the guilt? have you ever let someone slip away from yourself and you were never able to get them back? that kinda stuff
ReeRee on June 20, 2009 at 3:42 pm
since the summer tour is coming up fast maybe you could ask fans to post up what songs/medleys/mixes they would like to hear and vote on it?
Also you know how you did that hip-hop medley a few years ago, maybe you can do another medley? because i would LOVE to hear a pushing me away (HT) /pshing me away(reanimation)/ pushing me away(acoustic) MEDLEY. i dont even know if that would be possible to do lol but us fans like the way you guys mix up certain songs and give it an new twist.
also chester said he would do “easier to run” ACAPELLA!

And last do you mined if you’ll goin’ to share to us your facial scrub secrets?

Polyrhythmic signiture: Ever thought of making a song in another time signature? I like TLTGYA, From the Inside and Wake for having 3/4. 4/4 time is just so common. I would love if you made a song in like 5/4 or 7/4 time. Dave Brubeck – Take Five had a 5/4 time and the Japanese singer Akeboshi with his song Winds had 5/4. Pink Floyd had a 7/4 time with their song “Money”. I think they really sound great.
What happened to the song “JAPAN”(‘nananananananaaaa, the pieces of your secrets’…..)? It was catchy, but i can’t find any info of the song since the DVD of MTM.
Are you (LP) trying improve your skills in your musical instruments?

Hey Mike! LINKIN PARK ROCKZ. You haven’t really been doing anything with Fort Minor and Rising Tied was an AWESOME album, when are you guys going to make another? Can’t wait for the new LP album next year. Mike you’re the best rapper EVER. LP4EVER
JohannesK on June 20, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I have a question but I don’t know if you can/want to answer it.
Many of your songs have very untypical lyrics like for example Dedicated (my fav LP song) or By Myself that deal with problems of the ‘inside’ and feelings.
My question is, how do you get the idea to those lyrics? Do you really have felt feelings you’re rapping or singing about or is that all fictional? Because on the one hand you don’t seem to be a person who had to deal with things like bullying but on the other hand the lyrics describe the feelings very exactly and correct.
I hope you can answer that because I’ve thought about that for a long time =)
Greetings from Germany,

Lots to ask..I know you have one place to people post their links/sites/blogs about their music and that you check them out and post opinions; could you do the same about writings? I mean lyrics and poetry? I write about desire, wish and those are full of images, a beautful work honestly and I would love to know your opinions about so where could I post this to you read, if it was possible? Other than that, I would like to know about writers and poets you read now or in the past; I would like to see more about you’re Artworks and your vision about art, and pieces that you write, like poems, lyrics or things like that. Love your work, Pat

Who’s your favorite artist? What’s the most exciting part in the whole process of writing a record? What’s your favorite color (lol)
You could post about music you like…you haven’t done that in a while…

I would love to see a post aimed at those interested in recording. Not everyone can afford (or, run in some cases) ProTools and some of the other professional recording softwares out there. I’d love to see reviews of cheaper (or free) software, tips on how to get started and ideas on how to set up studios when you don’t have a lot of space or money. It would also be neat if you did this once a month. Put up an open forum and let us ask you questions.

2) What do you think about music “heavy-weights/legends” like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Rolling Stones etc.
3) Can you guys consider letting the fans vote for the setlists/or a few songs in some of your concerts?

Hey Mike =) Okay, so, questions. What questions actually get you to pay attention? 1.) I always wondered what the worst injury you ever had was. 2.) I gave Chester a binder for all of you when I hung out with you guys on Wednesday. Did you guys get a chance to look at it? 3.) I also gave you a book when I met you in August of last year. Did you get a chance to look at that? 4.) Do any of the guys of LP snore and if so, who is the most annoying/loudest? I guess that’s it…?? Thanks =) -Jade

What about your thoughts on the “Freshman Class of Hip Hop” a.k.a. Kid Cudi, Big Sean, B.o.B., Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Drake, Asher Roth, and so on. I feel like their actually really showing promise in a genre that’s been lacking substance since 2000. Who do you wanna see really shine and who has to step up their game in your opinion.

mike, actually a lot would like to know obout yourself, i mean that when you pulled out the MTM record in a lot of onterviews you sad that you had changed in the last 2-2,5 years. Mostlly i would like to know obout Mike Shinoda in the period of HT & Meteora and Mike Shinoda know MTM to reacentlly now New Divide. Its interesting now to know youre views on music now and if youre personality maintains that Mike that was or is it still the same somehow. But not only you mostlly now the band.

Hi Mike, I’m going to be at the concert in Germany, Stuttgart and it would be soo great if you guys could play songs like QWERTY or No roads left, could you? 😀 Okay, I understand your explanation about the Noroadsleft-thingy, but QWERTY would be enough, I think… . So I haven’t checked if anyone else had asked this before, so sorry for repeating, but I didn’t want to read all of them 🙂 SEE YOU IN A MONTH!

Also I like to hear your opinions about different art 🙂

I was wondering myself, how much work it would take to organize a non-profit organization concert with big name bands like yourselves to raise money for philanthropic causes. Also, how to get sponsor’s attention for a good cause to help fund anything necessary involved with the project. The goal would be able to achieve something like this on a college campus and get as many people involved with it.
SergSlim on June 20, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Hey Mike, you already posted lyrics to Reading My Eyes, and songs by other bands. How about posting correct lyrics to other songs from XERO tape, and other songs that were not on any of the studio albums, such as QWERTY, New Divide, BARACK YOUR WORLD, and songs from LPU albums, cause they don’t have a booklet with lyrics to those songs. etc? Just make one post with all those lyrics, so we don’t have to guess words in those songs.
WKNS on June 20, 2009 at 12:02 pm
i really would like to see you guys play some covers this summer or doing a special thing like a “sit-down-laola” and talking more to the public. I think you’ll like the “Beatsteaks” ( http://www.myspace/beatsteaks). The german people will go crazy if you play one of their songs.

I think it would be really cool to learn more about Machine Shop, I mean we know you guys own it and part of LP is signed under MS, and SOB and Holly, but other than that we don’t know much about it. Maybe it could also give us a bit more insight about the music industry. And maybe some cool and/or totally random stories from back in highschool or something with Brad and Rob? You know, something all of us can relate to, that in the end, is what LP is all about right? Hybrid music and relating to eachother?
With love from the Netherlands!
PS will you guys some back to Dutch grounds some time again? I know a lot of people for whom Germany is too far away.
MastodonPark on June 20, 2009 at 11:54 am
It would be cool if you made a post about what you think the old Linkin Park would say about the New Linkin Park. Like back when the Hybrid Theory EP was released way back then when you guys were playing like 1st or 2nd slot on the second stage of a show, what they would think of New Divide and all the effects that were used on the video and how you guys are headlining huge shows. And then what you guys think now of the stuff that you did back in the late 90’s and the way you guys were when you were writing stuff like Reading My Eyes or Stick N Move or Fuse.
joze9diablorojo on June 20, 2009 at 11:52 am
What was the most weirdest thing that happened to the band while recording an album?/ Why you dont want to sing No Roads Left?/ What happened with the other 3 tracks that didnt make it in to MTM, why they were taken off?/ It’s true that you already have chosen a producer for the new record? why you are not the only producer? you can handle it we all know it! you did a great work in HTEP & Reanimation/ Mr Hahn said in the LPU chat that he does a lot of scratching but someone just bury it in the mix, why? the band is not happy with scratching? maybe you guys think that scratching it so 2001. Jozé Rdz from Mexico =)
Synyster on June 20, 2009 at 11:46 am
I don’t know about anyone else but as a long time running member of the LPU and after these past years “LPU” CD I’d really like to start seeing more exclusive content come our way. I’d like to be able to download the mix you made for Leave Out All The Rest as well as other things that the band does. Maybe get some of Chester’s first before everyone else does. Having access to a website is cute and all but if there isn’t really all that much more to it then what’s the point? We’ve had the same track available for awhile now. Let’s mix it up! As always, keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the new album will sound like. New Divide kicks ass!
Lvix on June 20, 2009 at 11:44 am
Mike, i think its a lot… First of all:”Tell us what happend with Busta Rhymes album “Blessed”. I can’t find “We Made It” on one of his Albums. Second: Joe said in the LPU chat:”I’m in charge of everything.” You agree?:p The band you liked on your featured artists… If you had the chance? Maybe you will play in one of their towns… Would you like to meet them? I know the members of Johnny Berlin, actually i posted about them on your blog her. Tom Sir Downing, the guitars is an amazing LP fan. Everytime he see me on their show he comes to me and says “thanks” again. Now “New Divide” putted their song down in the rockhitlist here in Belgium. Don’t know if there angry now:p
MaggotTheory on June 20, 2009 at 11:28 am
Maybe search the magical world of YouTube and find all the YouTube remixers who are unnoticed to you guys. (But thanks to the always kind Warner Music Group, you can’t find the BEST remixes)
C’mon. I promise you some remixes are good.
In fact, my friend xOoPaddyoOx is hosting a remix contest of New Divide. I made a decent entry…
You all are great. Love the new video.

That’s a great idea, Mike. I’d like to know how involved LP is with MFR. Do you get to decide about MFR’s upcoming projects and stuff like that? I asked the same question on that chat with Phoenix but the mods didn’t pick my question. 😦 Oh yea, you’ve talked about the music you like. What about the music you don’t like? What do you think about these singers like Lady Gaga who’s pretty popular (and creative, can’t disagree with that) but can’t write a song with good lyrics? You could also talk about the movies you like. Last question: can we expect a live performance of New Divide on a show like Jimmy Kimmel or Ellen DeGeneres? Hope you like my questions!
Have a nice weekend!
Ana_ on June 20, 2009 at 11:19 am

It would be awesome if you post some stories, memories, from LP’s early years, Xero era, Hybrid Theory stories etc. Also I will be soooo happy if you post something about your guitars! You know, pictures, videos with all your guitars or posts about how the ideas for your personal painted guitars came and stuff like that!!! I personally DIE to hear or read how you thought and made the “LP blue” guitar that you play, the one at “Somewhere I Belong” video and also the brand/model of the guitar!!! It’s my favorite!!! I wish I could hold it for some seconds… I’M ADDICTED WITH THIS GUITAR!!! Also I would like to know your favorite color/s? And what you prefer blue or red? Thanks Mike!!!!

After watching the MTV movie awards I noticed that several artists were “lip syncing” . I know you guys (LP) have done the VMAs and i was just wondering if MTV put any pressure on you to lip sync?
Also, do you think it is easier to be a good behaved rock star while on the road, as opposed to trashing hotel rooms and being under the influence 24/7? I have just noticed that Linkin Park is a very well mannered group and success has followed you guys around the past few years. I would think that other groups would see this and they would realize that they could get a much longer fan base if they weren’t so trashed all the time.
Catch ya later Mike…Hybr1d_7h3ory

I think a “typical day for Mike Shinoda”, a tour of your house, your favorite video games, favorite superhero, or allow artists (pencil, paper, that sort of artist) to post links to their work and you critique it.
Mickey on June 20, 2009 at 10:31 am
I have a more personal question for you, Mike. Normally, I honestly don’t really wanna know about your personal lives and I’ve always respected the fact that you all keep your personal lives just that; personal.
However, when your commencement (is that the word?) speech was published, someone, somewhere mentioned that you were introduced as ‘Mike Shinoda, musician, artist and father’ and I was like ‘wtf?!’ just as a lot of other fans, so…a simple yes/no question: are you or are you not a father?
(And yes, I know this is most likely to get ignored by Mike and I’m okay with that.. but you can’t blame a girl for trying, right?)

Hey Mike! Here is my suggestion: Today is the opening of the new Acropoli’s Museum and Greece will have the chance to ask the Parthenon’s marbels back! All those year Englanld didn’t return them because they clamed that we don’t have the right substructure. Now we do but for England the greek marbels are a very thriftily and it’s believed that they will turn down the call again. I’m just curious to see what you and the LP fans believe about that. If you were asked “Where should the Parthenon’s marbel stay? To England, to Greece or it doesn’t matter? ” what would you anwser?
PS: I’m not trying to pass any nationalistically messages, consider my question as a clean philosophic question.

But anyways, I always appreciate getting an “inside look” on the music industry, either if you’re talking about your own experiences or giving tips on what people can do to “get out there” or whatever..
Sophia93 on June 20, 2009 at 9:17 am
Good idea Mike!!! 😀 Seriously, thank you so much for your availability and gentleness with us (your fans)!!! However, I would like to ask you a question. Have you ever thought about writing a song in another language??? for example in italian? 😄
Oh! thanks all the band for your fantastic music!!! “New Divide” is a fabulous song and the video is better still!!!
P.S.: You are too much nice Mike!!!!!! even if I don’t know well you… 🙂 but I’m sure that’s like this! sorry for my english… 😄

I, and I figure a lot of other fans, are interested in the ‘proces’ and the progress of some new LP stuff.
For example, I liked the ‘album’ update in which you talked about the codenames you guys have for certain numbers and how you rate them. I believe ‘Robot Boy got a 8.75 etc., that stuff is pretty cool to know. What I’m particularly interested in is the fact that there’s some material from MTM that you guys are clinching too and will hopefully release in some way or form. Maybe with LPU9 or something?
Another question; Will you guys be playing some cool new stuff that’s not going to be on the new album during your next tour?!
Keep it up! Grtz from Holland.

hey I have a question about new divide:…………………………………………………….
On the full band shots, Dave (Phoenix) is missing! Where’d he go? I mean he is part of the band why don’t he show up on these sequences? I got a lot of emails asking if Dave quit the band!!……………………………
Thank you for wearing my I heart PHX shirt in Germany ;)…..http://phoenix-farrell.celebfans.org

I would like to know how far could the limits of Linkin Park go? are the instruments you are playing limiting you to go a completely different way or is the LP identity limit your frame?
Personally I would love if LP eperimented more in electronic (maybe for Transformers 3 soundtrack) 😉
ms_shock on June 20, 2009 at 8:56 am
How about more piano solos and sounds in your music? (just listened Muse – Space Dementia and really liked it). Piano is cool!
miKer0cks on June 20, 2009 at 8:51 am
Hey Mike 🙂 Well would it be easy to tell us a bit more about the process of your art? I mean you start with sketches first and then what? How do you decide which sketches are gonna make the final cut? Tell us about one of your pieces of art and how it got to the final phase (like you did in one of the episodes of LPUTV) Thx…Oh and one last thing: Any tips or pieces of advice to make our art better? In what should we pay more attention to? Thx Mike for giving us this opportunity 🙂 Can’t wait to see GED!
linkinparc on June 20, 2009 at 8:50 am

Hey Mike, tell me how Glorious Excess (Dies) is going? Are you still working on the pieces or you’re done? Let us know anything about it. I loved the Born art show and can’t wait for the next one. I know there will be some info in LPTV but I just can’t wait. Good luck! Hope you’re having a great time 🙂

What happen to you recently?
ShadowerLiltani on June 20, 2009 at 8:24 am
This is one of those moments, where you finally get to mention something you’ve always wondered about, and you can’t remember what it was. It’s the ultimate brain fart for me, right now. Is your life really this boring? Hey, wait, you like comedy! You should make a post of videos of your favorite comedians, (excluding Bernie Mac though cause you already posted about him). Edit: Those comedians do not have to be super famous people known for being comedians. They can be anyone that’s really funny, to tell ya the truth.
sweet_ash on June 20, 2009 at 8:18 am
i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see more videos of you and the guys in the studio or where ever being funny. especially brad…ever since i saw the graduation speech i just wanted to see more videos of him…….so please if u can….get more videos of the guys.
kram38 on June 20, 2009 at 8:17 am
Morning Mike! So, obviously you have an xbox 360, but do you own the other gaming systems as well? If so what do you play? Perhaps some Mario Kart? Or are you a 360 “fanboy”? I personally love all the systems and consider myself a “fanboy” of video games in general. By the way thanks for always updating us (fans) with breaking info and random stuff, we love it!

I would like to read something about your glorious excess dies art show or rather if you will make a glorious exess born/dies art show in another country like maybe germany.
That would be amazing and I think that many fans will go and see your art show, because it’s incredible!

O I love your idea as always.OK,hope my Qs are not suck (1)I always wonder how LP choose the countries/cities to tour,by random,by sales volume,or depend on WB? (2)How LP decide the setlist? subject to Chester’s condition,or just a preference setting? (3)Actually this’s my suggestion: Would you consider to allow the fans to choose wht songs most of us wanna listen in concerts via voting? (4)Would you intend to have FM World Tour again? (5)Do you love Chester? I mean he always said”I love u man”,”u’re so talented”at concerts, but you rarely say similar things to him.You two are like blood brothers, you know him well,he understands you well,so I’d love to see a post about your feeling on him 🙂

Mike, Mark from LPLive.net. firstname.lastname@example.org. I have something by you guys that I’d like to release but is not currently released. If this sounds sketchy, please contact Adam R (LPU HQ) on the matter as I’ve emailed him with the full info about it. It’s along the lines of Plaster (One Step Closer demo)…except 10 times more epic. We like to have the band’s approval on things but if you can get in touch, it’d be appreciated. Thanks man.
CoLOrBLiNd on June 20, 2009 at 7:59 am
I just found out about the LPU performance in LA three days ago, I live in the OC but I’ve been out of town since last Sunday so I can’t see the show. Why did you guys announced this show at the last minute?
Suggestion: It would have been nice if you guys announce this show sooner rather than later so people like me could get an early heads up and I’ll plan accordingly so I could come see the show.
EDIT: When is your next art show?
itoen on June 20, 2009 at 7:57 am
hey mike, check out this artist named ” Yusuke Nakamura “. he does album artwork for this japanese band i listen to called ” Asian Kung-Fu Generation”. if you want to see his artwork in motion, you can see it here…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzoxSVWr0G8&feature=channel_page. it would be great if you could post your opinion about this artist! enjoy!
Wong74 on June 20, 2009 at 7:55 am
Hey Mike, good job on all your recent efforts, was wondering if you could break down your art process (similar to when you told us about you and the guys choosing songs)? Like do keep you a sketchpad with you on tour/ draft ideas for painting on guitars straight onto guitars/ generally enjoy painting skulls (:P, admittedly they are awesome with a slight poignancy to them).
EmperorSakic on June 20, 2009 at 7:45 am
I just got my B.A. in Art, and want to apply at a bunch of different video game producers as a concept artist, except I need a portfolio. How do I go about doing this? They never taught us in school. Thanks!
BlackEagle2006 on June 20, 2009 at 7:39 am
cool idea mike 🙂 i got two question. do you want to play ‘New Divide’ live on the tour? and could you post some more pictures of your guitars? i´m a big fan of your self painted guitars 🙂
