Posted by cuz – Hey Mike, tell me how Glorious Excess (Dies) is going? Are you still working on the pieces or you’re done? Let us know anything about it. I loved the Born art show and can’t wait for the next one.

M: As you guys now know, the GLORIOUS EXCESS DIES show is coming to the Japanese American National Museum on August 29th. I’ll be there once again, at the opening, to say “hi” and sign stuff. This week, I’ve been putting the final touches on a NEW BOOK that covers the entire Glorious Excess (Born and Dies) experience, from beginning to end. I’m really excited about it.

There will be images of all the artwork, including some sketches and photos of the pieces unfinished. Shepard Fairey wrote the foreword. I wrote five different texts describing the thoughts behind the show. I think this is the first time the real ideas behind Glorious Excess have truly come into focus, and I hope you all get to check it out.

In unrelated news, a couple friends of mine are involved in putting together the Tattoo Hollywood Convention. (No, it’s not Chester and Club Tattoo) Shouts out to NORM. For those interested, here’s the info. Good stuff…

The shows in Turkey, Greece, and Austria have been great so far…Thanks to everyone who came to the concerts! Next stop, Finland…

"Follow The Leader" at De La Barracuda

Here it is…Above, my piece from the “Family Tradition” show at De La Barracuda entitled “Follow The Leader.” When I heard about the “Godfather” theme, the first thing I thought of was the over-the-top influence that trilogy had on rap music. For as long as I can remember, rappers have been comparing themselves to characters in the Godfather films, idolizing the imagery, and even dressing like the characters. That’s why, in this image, I had to put Marlon Brando in the shoes of Rakim. Both carved out a path for many artists to follow.

First concert of Tour: U2

First concert of the tour…and it wasn’t ours Went to U2 last night with the Phoenix. Pretty great–a good mix of the old and new songs, plus a ridiculous $25 Million stage that looks like a space bug. The video screens were my favorite part.
