Adding to the Studio

July 6, 2009

My studio was lacking a little pizazz, so I added a little something today: my Nintendo, circa 1987. I got cracking on some Metroid today. It was a good day.

  9. sacredfeather on July 8, 2009 at 7:33 am

Hey Mike: OMG…I sooo miss my Nintendo. Funny thing is that I still have all of my games, though the actual player has gone M.I.A. some time ago! Just wanted to tell ya that I was in New York this week and went into the Hard Rock Cafe. I loved LP’s broken and fixed..again and again..guitar! Very cool! It was one of my favorite pieces to look at in that place! Love you guys! Keep on giving us the most amazing music ever!!!!!

  10. davidkyoku on July 8, 2009 at 4:51 am

You should show us things about the new music!!!! ๐Ÿ˜›

I have one question for you: what would you say to people who think LP died with Minutes to Midnight? Are you aware that lots of fans have turned their back on you after that…”change”?

  13. analoggirl on July 7, 2009 at 9:08 pm

Nice. Oddly enough, I received a Ninento keychain with Donkey Kong Jr. for my birthday. If I’m feeling hardcore, I delve into my parents’ basement for the old Commodore 64 and Coleco Vision.

  14. blaze_jaganshi on July 7, 2009 at 9:05 pm

haha very nice! cool set up. and i love the screen. wish my nintendo still worked =/

  15. i_has_lamp on July 7, 2009 at 7:42 pm

your tv isn’t big enough mike. get a bigger one. oh man i love super bros. on there, and duck hunt haha.

  16. Michael1904 on July 7, 2009 at 7:27 pm

With Nintendo on the brain, would today also be the day that Linkin Park’s new album took a sudden, unexpected twist towards the 8-bit/chiptune scene?

Speaking of which, I looked out my parent’s old Commodore 64 today. It has a synth program on casette tape, which only takes a mere 30mins to load up. Perfect for capturing those sudden, fleeting moments of inspiration! Pro Tools can eat it’s heart out.

Your music is awesome in Transformers. Looking forward to more Mike!

  17. ravivandmikefan4life on July 7, 2009 at 6:23 pm

Hey Mike, long time no comment so hope you don’t mind me leaving you this. A DJ and Fort Minor fan/friend recently did this scratch session using Petrfied. I know that probably happens a lot or at least with various music you’ve made but I think you should really check it out because I’m pretty impressed and you know me, The Secretary – I have good taste ;). Hope you guys are having a good time and get back on XboX at sometime and play with the fans. Anyway, a link to the video is here:

  27. qwertz on July 7, 2009 at 1:42 pm

can you play Legend Of Zelda on that?

  28. Satine81 on July 7, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Yeah! The good old times where it all began ;D 1987…I was 6 years old and Iยดve became it to christmas from my parents in this year. I was playing the games almost nonstop….Tetris, super mario and even the soccer game (donยดt know itยดs name Oo ) against my brothers, but they didnt had any chance to beat me ;D I think I should play with the NES too. I think my son would like it too. This time was really a special time and all the toys weยดve played with.I Think today the Toys are very crazy. I remembered the teletubbies time. So damn silly shit! Whatever.Time is always changing and have their own heroes for children ;) Many regards to you and your family :)

  37. rockermeg on July 7, 2009 at 10:06 am

    Waaaay! LOL
Aah that’s not how you do it! The classic Nintendo must be played on a tiny screen that you can barely see, sitting on a beanbag, eating jelly babies :3
    Well that’s what I do
Did you get any work done? I know it’s a foreign concept to you rockstars…

  38. Sintia on July 7, 2009 at 10:02 am

All I hav to say is…WOW!! I remember the Nintendo & cassette games. ahhh sings Memories. Our Nintendo, you could say, took a beating & still survived! Mario Bros is what we mainly played. Lets see what other old school “pizazz” you can add to your studio….Boom Box! check out this site!
Mike, I hope you, LP, and your families are doing good and in good health. ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. xXLEOXx on July 7, 2009 at 9:35 am

PS.: This undefinable green thing is cute! It reminds me on you! JOKE! ^^
    Gambler regards from germany!^^

  41. Eddie on July 7, 2009 at 8:35 am

Oh Mike this is so cool!!!! Perfect equipment!!! I love this!!! And a Nintendo? Ah, brings back memories…. I remember how happy I was at 1996, when I got my Sega Mega Drive 16bit…. Virtual Fighter and Sonic The Hedgehog…. Now we have Playstation 3 and XBOX 360, but we love those years…. We were so happy with simple graphics (not so simple for early 90s period….). Do you remember, we bought CASSETES to play a game… hahaha!!!! Now we can download emulators in our PC and play these games. And about the games “size”, I have Mighty Morphin Power Rangers at 1.033 KB.. But then ฮ™ had to pay 20.000 drachmas (60 euro) to buy this cassete. Technology gone so far… Take care bro!

  42. ThePrincess on July 7, 2009 at 8:17 am

Woow Cool studio !! ..1987 ??!! huh I still wear nappy at the time LOL !! well Usually I played Nintendo while visiting my friend’s place ( yeah he still has it ) Although I could only play one game Mario LOL!! but it really help me to relax After all day long was in the boring office ๐Ÿ™‚ .. plus I always felt was in NKOTB era when i play it .. 47. YourConscience on July 7, 2009 at 7:14 am

Haha! Hella oldschool. Unfortunately for me, my brother got to keep all of our old video games/systems, so I can only play Metroid on my little Gameboy. Oh well. It’s still fun to indulge in games from the ol’ childhood once in a while, huh? =) I’ve recenty pulled out Mario vs. Donkey Kong; I adore that game. Haha. Anyhow, I hope you and the guys and the fams are all doing well. love and hugs

  48. ShadowerLiltani on July 7, 2009 at 6:45 am

NES!!!!! YAY!!!!! I actually never played the mainstream games, like Metroid and Zelda… I still have my NES remake, where the cartridge goes in the top rather than the front. Still works pretty damn good, too. I have so many of the old-school games, like kung fu, golgo 13, duck hunt, mario bros of course, image fighter, 1943 battle of the midway, donkey kong, paperboy, and the list gets pretty long…. I wish some of the classics I have would still play, I really don’t know how to get them working again…. What other games do you have? And what is that little green character hanging there? It’s cute ๐Ÿ˜€

  49. jayrod1380 on July 7, 2009 at 6:24 am

Mike, i see you have the new White Axiom 49? midi controller. how is that? any cool new features? i use the cool Red Axiom 49, just curious whats new with the white?

  50. ErbseLP on July 7, 2009 at 6:22 am

    YAY Metroid! ๐Ÿ˜€
I love Samus Aran, she is so cool! ๐Ÿ˜€ We have merely a N64, PS1, PS2, GBA, Game Cube, NDS Lite, Lynx, Wii and Xbox 360… ๐Ÿ˜› xD

We had a SNES but my brothers have sold him. -.- :/ (such idiots oO)

Hm, do you play Mario Kart? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜›

  51. Squishy_Ho on July 7, 2009 at 6:06 am

of course now, every NES game is better played on a 52″ flat plasma screen.
you lack a bit of zelda, though.

  52. lucky_cat on July 7, 2009 at 5:56 am

Ha, by looking at this stuff I feel my life in an accelerated pace … just yesterday new technology, it’s ready for retro-style by now. No wonder my son loves nintendocore … Do you like Horse The Band?

I love this game. I lost my Ninendo for years and ended up with another one, spent half of last Christmas taking it apart, making it work, and putting it back together to play this exact game. ๐Ÿ™‚ Good times. Nice to know you like it too.

  60. bec on July 7, 2009 at 3:22 am

post this in your last blog entry – but it looks like you’re a little bored so reposting:

A good few years ago someone made a game ‘Get Mike Shinoda Naked’ – it’s highly addictive and a lot like pong. You get 20 balls and have to bash off your clothes, started with your pants and then your t-shirt. Once you’ve got all your clothes you are rewarded with a new very graphic picture.

Oh gosh, that’s a pretty epic setup lol. Seriously seems like something my brother would do. We didn’t own an NES, but a SNES and I miss it dearly right now, especially Star Fox and NBA Jam. (The music for Corneria from Star Fox is now playing in my head!) But I have played some NES ports and probably Tennis, Donkey Kong, and Zelda are my favorites.

Reason Linkin Park albums take a long time, #3,056…lol.

BTW Mike, it’s all about Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. Honorable mention goes to Excitebike. My original NES still works too, although you gotta have the proper technique of blowing on the cartridges to get them to work (anybody who’s ever owned an NES knows exactly what I’m talking about).

  75. miKer0cks on July 7, 2009 at 12:30 am

I think for your next blog, it would be cool so show off some of your equipment at home… guitars…and stuff..? or is that against warner’s policy?

also, what happened to your Glorious exhibit? is that still going on… or is it put on the back burner indefinitely?

Hey Mike thats cool all the technology in your studio contrasting with the Nintendo Classic Console with the lcd screen, there’s a Huge step in years now with a Xbox 360 or Play Station 3, but Nintendo was the classic and a piece of the history in games so thats so inspired to make musik like just Linkin Park Knows, go a head guys im dying to ear a piece of your new album, after New Divide everything go up with your styleee….

  90. KiryuLP on July 6, 2009 at 9:07 pm

Seeing the nintendo at home there with all that music equipment reminds me of the 8 bit music. Which reminds me of this band my friend told me about that plugged all their instruments into a hacked super nintendo and played live like that… i don’t remember their name though.

I also sense a decrease in productivity there LOL.

Also also, having no elbow room by that mouse doesn’t bother you?

Just so you know, I’m very jealous of all your equipment. Studio equipment, that is. Even more jealous of the original Nintendo.
