Lyrics In Print: Blinded By The Light

Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – Blinded By the Light Lyrics

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin’ kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin’, sneezin’ and wheezin,
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was…

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said “I’ll turn you on sonny to something strong,
play the song with the funky break”
And go-cart Mozart was checkin’ out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride
But she was…

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tired
She’s gonna make it through the night
But mama, that’s where the fun is
Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun
But mama, that’s where the fun is
Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Says, “Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it’s funny bone,
that’s where they expect it least”
And some new-moan chaperone was standin’ in the corner,
watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin’ with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground

Every time I hear this song, I think, “Wow Manfred Mann, you sure have a way with words. I know exactly what you’re talking about. Especially ‘In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat.’ That line may have saved my life.”

Oh wait, no. This is the song that sounds like it’s just rhyming random words. I know Springsteen wrote the original, but I have this suspicion that Manfred Mann sniffed a bunch of pixie dust and changed the words.

By the way, if you want to know more about this song, you can wiki it…but in this case, I think ignorance is bliss.

“Blinded by the light…wrapped up like a douche…”

Hello, Mike I write you from Italy and I would ask if he ever thought of doing a tribute to the recent death of Michael Jackson.
I want to ask if he meant something in your life.
Finally, do some ributo or song for him?
Do something for him in some next tour?
Or will a normal message as everyone?

  3. lpstaind1226 on July 14, 2009 at 4:05 pm

look at this version of whered you go πŸ˜‰

  7. ShadowerLiltani on July 14, 2009 at 9:32 am

I get the feeling that people who rhyme random words is a huge pet peeve of yours. I don’t blame you.The lyrics are so bad that, even when you hear it wrong and read the correct lyrics, it still sounds fucking horrible. How do these people get popular? Edit: Also, have you ever thought about posting up the lyrics to songs in languages other than English? Because in this opening theme for Outlaw Star, “Through the Night”, it seriously sounds like the dude is shouting “Ow! My eye!” at one point, among other things. Good song, but, funny if you don’t know Japanese XD

  8. bangbangbangonddoorbaby on July 14, 2009 at 8:39 am

that song brings back memories of when i was a kid around 6 or 7 and my brother(he is about a year and a 8 months younger) and I were with my dad and this song came on and my brother was like ‘dad, whats a douche?’ needless to say my dad never did answer us.

  9. MJ on July 14, 2009 at 7:55 am

Great Mike! By the way, is there any time for signature or sth after the concert in Macau? I’ve been waiting for so long!!!!

  10. Eddie on July 14, 2009 at 4:29 am

    Haha! Nice! πŸ™‚

  11. CuteWhiteBunny on July 14, 2009 at 3:37 am

    That was entertaining! Thanks!

Though the lyrics make me wonder whether they were deliberately nonsensical or just turned out that way.

About what you thought it said, I read the article on Wikipedia and found this:

“The song is notable for lead vocalist Chris Thompson’s garbled enunciation, especially of the phrase “revved up like a deuce” which has led many fans to interpret it as “wrapped up like a douche”.”

You definitely weren’t the only person to get the lyrics wrong.

  12. torresliv on July 14, 2009 at 1:40 am

Haha cool lyrics!!! Mike check out this New Divide remix I think it’s 10x beter than this one you posted some time ago

Dump, mumps , pumps ,sneezin’ wheezin,curly-wurly, Early-Pearly HAHAHAHA this is too much dude!!!! GOD LORD I think it is time for me to open my damn dictionary again ! before my head exploded of course.. YUP it is not a song that needs to be understood just enjoyed !!

  15. MS_Ineedyou on July 13, 2009 at 11:12 pm

    ahahahaha XDDD

  16. ThePrincess on July 13, 2009 at 10:00 pm

I’ve come to the conclusion that it is not a song that needs to be understood just enjoyed coz this a humor section, but this is my lil’ opinion , I feel that MR Mann are trying to warn some girl, that he think are obsessed to the fame, but apparently he didn’t see the other side of the girl like .. that in this world there are more important than the fame, yes that is love coz sometimes we have to receive something unexpected comes in our lives, like it or not !

  17. LPmadman on July 13, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Madman drummers bummers Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat,

( you kidding me man .. i guess , that fucking old man have too much time for making this lyrics sound more reasonable LOL !! )

  18. murry on July 13, 2009 at 8:22 pm

The Boss wrote that? No fucking way. He actually makes some semblance of sense with his lyrics.

  20. _Bianca_ on July 13, 2009 at 4:35 pm

This is the mother of all misheard lyrics videos, the only thing bad about it is, that most people already know it^^

  21. Madlen on July 13, 2009 at 4:29 pm

LMAO I am amazed by some people’s artistic abilities in writing lyrics…this is pure…I don’t think there’s a word for it πŸ˜€

  22. rubyred82 on July 13, 2009 at 4:05 pm

LOL I thought it was “wrapped up like a douche” too. My brothers and I used to sing it when we were kids and feel like we were singing a swear word, but we could because it was in the song. Thanks for clearing that up Mike, although I think “wrapped up like a douche” fits the song better. P.S. It’s my birthday, a year ago I was watching you guys in Quebec City haha.

  23. cuz on July 13, 2009 at 3:56 pm

That’s insane… The second video was great! And you know, this is the moment while you see how true and honest LP is in lyrics – “I find bliss in ignorance”, ha!

  24. bec on July 13, 2009 at 3:42 pm

the line that saved your life ~ isn’t that about jacking off?

  25. soyuneik on July 13, 2009 at 2:07 pm

If all dumps are mumps and all mumps are adolescent pumps then all retro pumps are:
    A) A shoe you can inflate playing Matt ball B) Your first experience pumping something C) None of the above
Lucky_Kat sent me pictures of a 60 foot Gundam and I ran outside and grabbed a stone tablet to carve my own commandment. Yea… just one. 1) Japan wins. I’m leaving. this place is BORING I wanna see robots when I wake the eff up in morning bitcha**es You can’t hold me. Get the eff off me. GI-GAN-TOR!!!!!!

  26. madprincessofthedrums on July 13, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Mr.Shinoda i will be very happy if you can just tell me which airport will lp land and the exact time and date for the concert in Turkey..we would be happy to give you a warm welcome with bunch of fans.

  27. Sintia on July 13, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Wen I first read the title I thought of Bruce Springsteen “The Boss”. Then read the lyrics by the artist & just started to laugh cuz I didn’t realize how much those words to a song I like is just crazy. Your right…I do think that Manfred Mann sniffed a bunch of pixie dust while changin the words to “The Boss” song or was it Mr. Tambourine Man? lol Try to sing that song sober. I like these lyrics in print post. Enjoy the rest of your day Mike. I hope you, LP, & your families are doing good and are in good health.

  28. xXLEOXx on July 13, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Apparently you sit the hole day on your PC and search for sick vids or stuff like that! πŸ˜€ (I must admit, that I do the same^^)
This guy is great…. heΒ΄s a bit insane…. but he is great! πŸ˜€ He has such a understandable way to enunciate! I can feel with him!^^
PS #1: YouΒ΄re helmet looks great!
PS#2: IΒ΄m so exited! I am so happy that you and the guys will come to Stuttgart (germany)…. I will be there! I think itΒ΄ll be the best day of my life! see u! ;D

Lol, this was one of my favorite songs when it was playing on the radio when I was 4 or 5. I didn’t know what the hell they were saying, but I still sang along. πŸ™‚
This and “Take the Long Way Home”. Whenever it came on we took the “long” way home. πŸ˜‰

  30. ayso on July 13, 2009 at 12:57 pm

I like the song, don’t care … LOL. Sometimes, you know, not being able to understand anything can be a great gift πŸ™‚ The second video is funny as hell though, exactly my level …
EDIT: Neik, I thought it would be cool to live INSIDE of it πŸ˜‰

  32. Fragile on July 13, 2009 at 12:15 pm

Hello,Mike,i agree with you, this song sounds really random. What about Suru show i thought that it will be really huge show. But no, it’s all nice and quiet, yes i even bought one book from this shop.
I hope that next Sunday it will be really great in Barracuda and i gonna check it out too…
But it was so hot yesterday’s day and night,so it’s not possible to stay at the street..
See next Sunday and take care)

  33. Anstice on July 13, 2009 at 11:35 am

lmfao, I sat and stared at the lyrics for a really long time before I just like…snorted and then went on the read the rest of the blog. “That line may have changed my life.” THAT made me laugh. That and the “douche” thing. lmfao, wrapped up like a douche. I love life, lmfao.

  34. Maaark on July 13, 2009 at 11:25 am

Hey Mike! The first thing that crossed my mind when I first read the lyrics was “so random”. Then I watched the videos and loved the instrumental, so I went to Wikipedia to know more about the lyrics and they’re starting to make some sense to me. Pretty funny and interesting. Thanks for sharing!

    Take care Dr Shinoda!

  36. Kalini on July 13, 2009 at 11:09 am

The misheard lyrics video was funny. I can’t believe Bruce Springsteen has written this song. I love all of his songs. Probably Manfred Mann has changed the lyrics. You have the right suspicion. In this case ignorance is bliss. Sometimes I just must agree with you. K

  37. miKer0cks on July 13, 2009 at 10:33 am

My fave part is “Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat”. Sounds kinda funny! πŸ˜› Thx for posting and for the videos! πŸ™‚

Hey, have you listened to The Get Busy Committee’s new song? They have a shout out to you. πŸ™‚ Here’s a link:

  41. rockermeg on July 13, 2009 at 8:47 am

    Woo first comment xD
Well it’s a decent song… the lyrics sorta remind me of earlyish Red Hot Chili Pepper stuff
Wait wait… “Some all hot, half-shot, heading for a hot spot, snapping fingers clapping his hands” goes to:
“Know it all kid growing up, who doesn’t really know anything.”
Uh…I’ll take their word for it
Nice. LOL “douche” xD cracks me up eveeery time
    Peace out Mike
