Nice interview Mike, thanks for the info about Glorious Excess (Dies), there’s nothing better than seeing the art (and of course the artist🙂 in person, too bad I can’t make it, I’m too far from LA, but that’s so good that you keep us updated.I’m agree that people act differently online, I think we can express ourselves better online.

    Take care,

    NiloufaR

Very cool interview. You need to steer the ship in the right direction. I’m a little confused by this creating a separate identity online. Do you mean that if I hide my name and face on LPN, I create a separate identity? I hide it because everyone could visit my site. I thought your Blog is for posting comments and I make my post when I have what to say. I don’t have much time but I’ve made friends on LPN and try to come here often, and believe me I don’t have any time for creating a new identity. My friends on Facebook are people who really know me. You just made me think if you’re the one who has created a virtual version of yourself. Yeah, some people spend too much time on Internet. K

Hey Mike, how are you? Great interview! I’ve just read it. I’m glad you mentioned the book again. Like I told you before, I’m planning on buying it if it’s not too expensive. Oh, and you’re already working on a new Art Show? That’s amazing. I wonder what it’s about. Hopefully I’ll be able to see it in New York.🙂

    Take care man!

  7. Virginie on August 18, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Great interview Mike ! As you describe it, the book seems to be really interesting. And it’s a good thing for people who won’t be able to come and see your art show. Look forward to buy it. What do you think about the idea of bringing some pieces with you during next LP tour so that people from other countries could see your art ? Have fun at the opening.

  8. Madlen on August 18, 2009 at 2:03 pm

I think the coolest thing about Glorious Excess is the perspective that we get-you perspective. And it’s away from the one we usually see…because the media tends to show us kind of a blurry image of what the celebrity culture is.And you show us the hi-res version of it…the real it.I love that:)That’s a great interview btw:)

  9. lucky_cat on August 18, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Good one, Mike, very interesting. It’s nice to see how much the Juxtapoz reports on your GLXS “Dies” art show. As far as I remember they didn’t with “Born”. I’d love to see a coverage of the opening in the next printed issue🙂
NYC is a good idea! It’s the half way for both of us, lol, I promise I’ll make it!

  10. anaslinkin on August 18, 2009 at 1:06 pm

  11. Curiosa on August 18, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Great interview. I luv how every detail is connected. U really thought everything through. I’m very impressed.😀 I can’t wait 4 the show. I still say u looked anoyed n that 1st pic.😛 lol Hey I completely agree w/Spraypaintninkpens on the other blog about Rick Ruben, MTM, new album, & FM. I’m also concerned that this next album may not b as good as everything else b4 MTM.

BTW just found out that the mods on fmmb don’t have access anymore 2 confirm or deny new accounts cause of some glitch. Could u please have sum1 fix it? I seem 2 have brought people from twitter over there unintentionally. lol Didn’t know people were actually reading what i said & non of them r folowers. lol Thanks. TC

Great interview!A very good explanation.I agree with you that people acting different online.Personally I prefer to be honest;).And how you manage all your projects, family and so on is very laudable:).Anyway, wish you good luck for your art show and have fun at the opening;)
PS:What’s so special on a naked leg?Oh wait…it’s Mike Shinodas leg rolls eyes lol
    PPS:Sleep is overated😉

  15. LPfan_mar on August 18, 2009 at 11:05 am

Nice interview with very trues. I saw one interview of Portuguese newspaper with Chester, he said that you are inspared for make rap for the next album, and this is very cool”’ I’m ansious for see ”Glorious Excess Dies” and lissen next LP album. PS: What are you doing without pants? lol

  16. lovableFreak on August 18, 2009 at 10:26 am

great, great, great.🙂 you love collaborations? well, wanna do one with me? no, seriously, it’s one of my dreams, but it’ll never happen…😦 too bad… oh, and i loved the 5th pic. this shepard fairey piece is one of my favs. and you have it… sighs
you really seem to be into this vanitas-thing. you’re talking about that a lot.🙂 i find that interesting, too. heard a lot about it in art-lessons. i like, that it’s so meaningful and kinda dark. those things like skulls, candles or instruments are such strong symbols and they’re able to say more than words. and they’re giving the art this kinda depth i really love, cause you can stand in front of it and feel like it’s swallowing you.

  17. Sintia on August 18, 2009 at 8:59 am

Luv the interview! The more you post on your art or any artists, the more I learn. Basically i’m getting educated. Thanks for posting this. WOW, working on new art?! If sum1 every calls you a workaholic just say” I’m not a workaholic, I’m multitasking” lol I do agree that you have good people who help you out. Its important to surround yourself with good ppl to keep you grounded & leveled headed. Even tho you do what you luv as your job but that can never be replaced with family & friends. well that’s my 2 cents in & now time for me to get back to work. Can’t wait 4 GLXS Book & your show! I hope you, LP, & families are doing good & are in good health. Take care.

  18. xXLEOXx on August 18, 2009 at 8:07 am

Oh I´m so exiting, to see the new LP album and the GLXS book! I can´t wait! Step on it, guys!🙂

  25. Eddiehimself on August 18, 2009 at 5:17 am

Sorry about so many question but i am so curious

  26. Eddie on August 18, 2009 at 3:34 am

The interview was great and very interesting! I have to say, reading this interview, I learned and understood more about Glorious Excess and your art! Also you were totally right about how people act or can act online and how they act in real life.

A ‘new Vanitas’ explanation is really amazin’. Past is mixing with the present.

  37. DD on August 17, 2009 at 10:32 pm

SORRY MIKE! I want to make sure you can see my msg, please read it.~~~~Hey!Mike!I’ve been to the show in macao, this is my first time to be in a concert, and this is the great day ever in my life, and i can’t sleep now because of you, really! Remember that you took a red ribbon and wore it which was threw by one fan while the guarder is stopping him, you know, this is really nice, that fan is much happier than you can image, look like he has won one million dollars! And please blame chester he ignored another red ribbon LOL. Anyway, at the end of the show, i saw a girl is crying and said”The show is over, again.” You guys mean a lot to us, and your smile is so charming:)

  42. NoFace on August 17, 2009 at 8:16 pm

This pic alone needs a whole article for itself: “Mike Shinoda – ‘Being pantless makes me feel artistic’. or “Mike Shinoda – finally catches up with Hollywood”

Anyway, good interview. Agree with you about the online personaes. Behind the screen, anyone can turn monster, lol. Put the mask on and everyone can have their own freak show. Can’t wait to see your exhibition this month🙂

P/S: So did you have your pants on?

  43. PinkSoldier on August 17, 2009 at 7:24 pm

Hey Mike, thanks for interview link, one of my favorites actually, i really loved the new pics and the talk about collaborations. I wish i could be on the US for the show, but i’m here stuck with lots of college stuff now that my vacations are over.

I’m from Peru actually, and even tough i’m on the LPU i’m also on the official fan club there, the Bleeding Soldiers. A short time ago we made our own version of the New Divide video, and we’re really proud of how it came, we would love and appreciate if you take a little time to watch it, it’s really funny!

    here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSdQZOJ7rp4

I invite everyone here to watch it🙂

  44. mike_n_LP_4ever on August 17, 2009 at 7:10 pm
