Glorious Excess (Dies) got a glowing review by world-class art collector and critic, Ronnie Pirovino today. Here’s what he had to say:

“LA’s Japanese American National Museum is now hosting a prodigious art exhibition by Mike Shinoda entitled Glorious Excess (Dies). The massive creative effort is a pivotal point in the career of the young artist, as he establishes himself outside of his work in music. Shinoda’s adroit use of all types of media to channel his voice is remarkable. The show signals the artist’s ability to create his vision in a plethora of mediums, including digital platforms. It’s clear that the concept of the exhibition has been thoughtfully embedded into each rendition. It’s not too early to opine that Glorious Excess (Dies) provides one the year’s most memorable moments. On view until October 4.”

There are a ton of great images from the show on theartcollectors.com. A special thanks goes out to Ronnie for coming to the show.

Wat up Shinoda? U really must be proud of your accomplishments, especially on Saturday’s art show…i just have to say that the show was well established, and those haters that say the show was pointless and one-sided have to shoot themselves in the head for that. The exhibition was fantastic, even though i waited quite a long time (btw, i was the first one in line lol) well mike, keep it going, you will always have the back up from your fans…

Congratulations on your success of the show!! Looking at those images, I wish I could go to Los Angeles now. My favorite is ‘Memento Immortalis’, how beautiful…..!

Ah, I get why you’ve entitled the last bit of paintings Four Seasons now. At first, I couldn’t understand why, but I looked up the dates of all the celebrities in each painting and the dates they passed coincide with the season you’ve given them for the most part. It’s all connected. Very nice!

All ur paintings are so dope! Love them.
And I really like those “waves” u painted on the wall with celebrity reports in it and the death angels . Must have been much work.

Makes me even more sad that I can’t see it live:/ But I already pre-ordered ur artbook so I can look at them in the book🙂

  19. analoggirl on August 31, 2009 at 9:58 pm

Mike, congrats on creating an awe-inspiring show! I loved the themes and imagery of (Dies), and I was thrilled to see them executed so brilliantly in various media. The accolades are well deserved.

Also, thanks for being so incredibly generous. I attended the opening and the JANM members’ Q&A and I felt privileged to have received a personal tour of the exhibit. Thanks for sharing your art with us – and for engaging us in the process. I really appreciated the chance to ask you about your personal brand and use of installations.

On a side note, I hope the ‘Art of War’ comes in handy as you prepare your Blogger propaganda, haha. I’d love to see more of your subversive side. 😉

I love the dude’s creepy, contorted face. It’s looks so wild. Gotta say, I’m a big fan of the fact that as fucked up an individual as he is, he’s still got angel looking wings and is still being pulled upward. I’m not certain if there is a hidden meaning there or not… But my interpretation is that even though he’s done some really rotten things, he’s the type of person who hops over to confession, prays a lot, even returns to church, and manages to get himself into heaven by the skin of his skinless teeth. Also looks like the strings aren’t attached to him, so, is he instead being dropped?

Hi Mike. I thought you should know that I went to the opening night of Glorious Excess (Dies). It was amazing! Some of my friends were able to make it out there too. One of them is interested in applying to art school so I told him about your scholarship for The Art Center College Of Design. He is really excited about it.

Thank you for such an awesome art show. It was really sobering to see how people treat celebrities, putting them on a pedestal. It’s almost like they are in cages, put up on display for others’ amusement. I was wondering what your favorite piece was. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing many more great things from you. Take care!

Hi! I’m happy you’ve had a successful art show. Congratulations! I saw you’ve made a lot of posts about it and many links to photos of your paintings. Thanks for that. I’m going to see them. I hope you’ll upload a photo of each painting here in the ART section soon. K

  55. Carla on August 31, 2009 at 10:56 am

Congratulations! That’s such an awesome privilege, but you absolutely deserve it. You’ve been a great art inspiration to me ever since I was a kid always wanting to become an artist when I grow up. Thank you. What he said is true: You have a great grasp on using mixed media whether traditional and digital and blend so many art styles together. That and your wonderful concept proved to be extremely clever overall. I may have my own list of favorite artists and art shows that I follow, but Glorious Excess really appeals to me, in a sense that the interpretation is something we’re able to relate to easily/make ourselves while being personal for you at the same time. That and the art, of course!

  56. keineAhnung on August 31, 2009 at 10:54 am

Wow! Congrats!!!🙂 …I’m so sad that I can’t come and see the show😥

but I just LOVE that pic you posted!!!! It’s awesome!!! It’s my favorite!!!

(and as I said before: I’d love to have it on my snowboard…lol…so next lp show I’ll take it with me and you can paint it ;p …hm, do you think your security guys would let me bring it to the m&g?…rofl…j/k)

  57. Curiosa on August 31, 2009 at 10:42 am

A very well deserved recognition Mike.😀 As I mentioned in your blog about the bike, your show was great.:D I’m very proud of you.🙂 hugs It appears there are 2 reasons to congratulate you. Congratulations.🙂 I would love 2 tell u about my “adventures” in LA but there are certain things I’d like 2 keep off the web so I’ll let u know when I tell Ryu about it & then if u want 2 u can read it. 🙂 Could u please remind me of why u love LA so much cause I took a tour 2 see if I could see why but instead it still left me w/a bad impression of LA. Thanks. Tacke care.🙂

PS: I just got SixxJohn to listen to Smetana’s “the Moldau”.😉 Pretty cool guy.🙂

  58. Eddie on August 31, 2009 at 10:40 am

Awesome once again!! You are a great artist Mike!! The pictures are great! I love the gold skeleton! I think that’s “the guy” in your car I saw at a picture one – two days ago! Also I’m so sorry if what I’m going to write it’s “spam” but all the Greek LPUers want to ask you. As “Mikerocks” said, before the concert at July 21st, we (GR LPUers) met up to make a book with our artworks/pictures and letters and we gave it to the guys who won a m&g to give it to you! Did you saw it? Did you like it? I made an LPU graffiti and a letter. Please Mike if you want give us a “holly sign” that you saw it! It means a lot to us! We put our heart to this book for you!🙂 Take care bro and thank you!

I also paint, and you are SUCH an inspiration.
I honestly have yet to see a bad piece of your art.
Of course I totally agree with the review😀
    Seriously Mike, well done🙂

    In reply to the comment below;
Maybe he didn’t show us before because he doesn’t want to make his son an icon?
If you where famous, would you?
Personally, I think Mike did the right thing on keeping his child a secret.
Congrats to Mike and Anna for their baby, but I think you guys should stop asking him about it.
If he wanted to tell us, he would have.

Anyway, well done again Mr. Shinoda😉
