Google: New Music Search Function

October 28, 2009

Looks like it’s conference week for me (ha). Today, Google announced their new music search function, and I was invited to speak on a panel regarding the new function, what it means for the fan (like us) who wants to find and purchase new music. I met and spoke with a handful of really smart, really fun peeps (shouts out to Bill, Courtney, Ali, RJ and all the awesome Google staff).

What I think most of you will be interested to know is that Google is rolling this function out in the U.S. right now. When you search for new music, you will immediately see a few options of songs to play, plus links to the artists tour dates and purchase options. Knowing how much we all hate clicking on a dozen things to get to the place we want, this is a welcome improvement (now all I need to do is finally get our tech department to do the same with our linkinpark.com, LPU, and LPN login).

Here’s the info from their blog, and a picture from the event. Keep an eye out online, as there will be some performances–including one by Dead By Sunrise.

PS: Ironic that Mos Def was on the panel, since I just posted his BET performance:

EDIT: I almost forgot…HUGE thank you to OneRepublic for letting me eat some of their In N Out burgers. Seriously. A life saver.

Hey Mike. For sure it’s an interesting and useful tool, just hope they release it in Brazil as soon as possible. Everyone uses Google here to search for anything they want/need, so I think this new tool would be a huge success here! πŸ™‚

By the way, I laughed so hard at the second pic. You’re wearing the jacket Stryker made fun of. “You have your favorite pair of jeans, I have my favorite jacket so fuck off!” HAHAHA!

You’re the best man, take care! πŸ™‚

Hey, that’s sounds pretty good. And I am really glad that they organize such conferences and also the fact that they organize it in business like way or in a proper way means that it’s going to work somehow. And I think that One Republic is one of the bands that can play rock music and add their some changes. Also they can try to develop the alternative field if they really want to. And glad that One Republic gave you to eat something. That means that you have a good friend among them. Happy Halloween, Mike.

I think the coolest thing about is that you can write part of the lyrics and it finds the song…that’s the thing I need the most:DIt’s a busy week for you, huh?:DSo what is the deal about the fans being able to watch you guys online while you’re doing the record? Is this about the LPTV episodes or something like a webcam?Do tell πŸ˜€

Dude, you seriously need to take time out to eat something before you start looking sickly skinny & have it start negatively affecting your body. Please take care of yourself. πŸ™‚ hugs Definitely a big thanks to OneRepublic. From our blog (http://www.caughtintheact.co.nr or http://caughtintheactmikeshinoda.blogspot.com):

“On the other end of the spectrum, I’m beginning to think that perhaps Mike should take more time out of his day to make sure he is adequately fed and watered before leaving his house. That way he doesn’t have to take other celebrities’ food during events.”

    HA!!

Well big thx to OneRepublic for giving you a burger. (No more cookies Mike? :P) But I think Ryan is stealing your style! You’re the only one who wears those awesome, colorful shirts! LOL xD

All in all, it seems it was a pretty interesting conference πŸ™‚ They should call you more often in coferences and graduations. You should come to mine next year! πŸ˜› haha! Nice work, Dr. Shinoda πŸ˜‰

PS. Since Halloween is in 2 days are you planning to do anything to the guys? Like a prank or something? You should make a t-shirt that says ” Twitter is life” or “I love cheesecake” (cause Phi is talking about cheesecakes all the time now :P) and give it to Dave. LOL

  32. murry on October 29, 2009 at 10:09 am

I hope you made friends with Ryan Tedder, because I just saw One Republic live a couple weeks ago and they were amazing. Way better than I expected.

Also, Mike what do you think about this? http://closegitmonow.org/pages/music-used-to-torture

I am in e commerce. I actually joined here after seeing a video of you speaking to Web Pro News at Blog World. Your comments on Artistic Honesty & Intention were taken to heart. They inspired a change in our corp philosophy, because we realized something was being severely overlooked.

  41. PankakeMunky on October 29, 2009 at 6:18 am

This conference sounds really interesting. It’s about time that Google did something for the people and made everything condensed together. You’d think that with all of these new stuff coming out with technology, you’d think of merging it all together to make it universal. Now if only Google could make every single card machine at every store universal so I don’t have to get confused with what to do and what buttons to click when I’m trying to buy a simple bag of potatoes…

  42. ShimizuAiko on October 29, 2009 at 5:59 am

Ryan Tedder saved your life just because has allowed you to eat their In N Out burgers ?? ..uhm That’s ironic btw speaking abt OneRepublic I like their song , Apologize πŸ™‚

yay no more trawling through countless irrelivant pgs! is it too much to ask to keep the log in thing at the top of the pg like it is on the lpn so then when ppl get to ur blog they dont like me read a post then click on it to comment only to remember to log in and then it either takes u to the lpn home pg or back to ur blog instead of the story u clicked on and have to go through it all again… to be honnest i dont care what happens as long as its not a pain in the arse like it is now..phew! there’s my 2 cents worth :)…

Everyday I wake up and come up with a new invention before the coffee. Today it was heating water on a greener molecular level via specialize faucets. (Whatever the hell that means) It just took forever to clean my coffee cup out….water was wasted and angry thoughts were formed. Going to a Google conference makes you an uber geek too.
That’s right, embrace your geekism Shinoda.

  49. MrJQ23 on October 29, 2009 at 12:27 am

“some” of their In N Out burgers? as in more than one? atta boy shinoda! The rule at In N Out is always get at least 2 Double-Doubles, both “Animal Style” (extra pickles and grilled onions with everything else), and order fry-lites (fries lightly fried). Completely take off the wrapping of the burgers before you eat them so the sauce and excess “mess” can drip over the fries. This will now create your own version of “Animal Style” Fries. For all you readers out there: make sure when you are visiting the Southwest portion of the United States, please enjoy one of the best burgers on earth. The Habit Burger Grill second on the list of great quality burgers on this side of America.

Mmm, no disrespect to Mos Def but I beg to differ about M. Shinoda not lookin’ hot. Can I say “sssizzle”? Haha πŸ˜‰ Love the new hair style. Oh, congrats on being chosen for Google’s new music search function. They chose the perfect source! P.S. Don’t work too hard…have fun too! πŸ™‚

  51. 786khadija on October 28, 2009 at 11:04 pm

Question to our esteemed “Dr” Shinoda, the music biz has changed so much since LP were first signed do you think this is a positive or negative thing ? All the downloads, Youtube, ringtones, widgets etc…. Has music lost some of it’s purity or is it a good thing to make record companies want to hold on to their assets ? Or will record companies go the way of the dinosaur, so many people have home recording and can put their music straight on Myspace, Youtube, Itunes, CDBaby. Do we really still need the commercial record industry at all ? Havent they just become marketing tools in themselves ? Oh and I think you look nice rocking that hoody, if a little Chester-ish LOL !

  52. SkullzTatz on October 28, 2009 at 10:47 pm

Awesome but Sorry i’ve to say that Mos Def look hotter than you .. lol !!!

  53. ShadowerLiltani on October 28, 2009 at 10:30 pm

While your at it, and I am not sure if any other fans feel this way, but I am so sick and tired of that background music that plays on your blog and on linkinpark.com. It makes it very difficult for me to hear what’s on a video I’m watching at your site, because the music can’t be turned off. I’ve tried looking in the account settings, regarding the LPN, and still can’t find a way to make the music go away. At least give us an easy option to shut it off, so we can watch the music videos without having to go to youtube.

  54. lp_fm_fan on October 28, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Cool! Haha, yeah conference week! How does it feel to be more involved? Is it always this busy for you? You’ve been everywhere lately!

How was the #140conf? Did you make any new Twitter friends? πŸ˜„ or followers, ha.

Edit: Wow, really? Not even time to eat? You really are always busy, damn! And I thought I was busy….
