Well done, OK Go.

March 3, 2010

There’s a reason these guys are well-known for their videos: they’re really f*cking good at making them. In case you didn’t already know, they’re in a disagreement with EMI regarding embedding videos, a disagreement a lot of artists are having or have had w/ labels. So extra kudos to OK Go! for working around the label and getting a corporate sponsor so the video could be embedded.

Speaking of which, I wanted to put this other video up a while ago, but the embedding was disabled, thanks to EMI. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12zJw9varYE

Moreover, they disable to ever view this video in some countries, like, in Russia. Fucking labels.

    Hey Mike~!
Thanks for sharing such awesome stuff with us fans. Thanks to you I spent the last hour or so just watching and rating OK Go’s videos on Youtube. 😀
Say, have you shown these to Mr Hahn? Maybe he can take some ideas from them. So, next year it’ll be LP v/s OK Go for the Best Music Video Award at all possible functions ;D LOL
    Thanks for everything~!

  17. KATHYxx on March 4, 2010 at 1:56 pm

There’s also a series of videos on how they made that video. Took a month and a half and a hell of a lot of takes. The part up to the tire had to be redone 200 times.

  18. TheGlueLpFan on March 4, 2010 at 12:32 pm

I remember seeing their first video-the one where they run on those …things(I forgot the word lol).I thought “wow those guys know how to make videos”.I wonder how many takes did that video take…Kinda reminds of an episode of Malcolm In The Middle lol:)And I couldn’t watch the second video because of EMI stuff…

  19. MaryBing on March 4, 2010 at 11:46 am

“This video contains content from EMI. It is no longer available in your country. ” – that’s always irritating:)

  39. Thomas Jacob Brablec on March 4, 2010 at 2:13 am

Thanks for posting this! I always liked their videos and my favorite was “Here It Goes Again.” This one is better, though. A huge Rube Golberg machine is a pretty interesting idea for a music video.

  40. keineahnung on March 4, 2010 at 2:05 am

AWESOME!!!!!!!! must have taken ages to set that all up 🙂
unfortunately I can’t watch the second vid -.-‘ (This video contains content from EMI. It is no longer available in your country.)

For original version go to Vimeo =)) http://vimeo.com/8718627

  54. burningdaylight on March 3, 2010 at 6:56 pm

this video was awesome! (and way to go State Farm for sponsoring this video. while they are a failtacular insurance company, they were really good for putting in money so OK GO could embed the video) it sucks they had to succomb to that just so people could embed their video. guess it’s this capitalistic society of ours, yeah?

  55. KLOUD on March 3, 2010 at 6:54 pm

as an artist myself, i always love to see what creativity can do and that’s really good stuff M! in a word: A M A Z I N G! you should try to do some colorful paint-effect video or to build a domino-thing…maybe something with chopsticks 🙂

  56. Erinlouise on March 3, 2010 at 6:14 pm

lol that was awesome 🙂 it would have taken ages to set up but soooo worth it in the end

  57. SamuraiBob on March 3, 2010 at 5:48 pm

Mike, give us new info on the album please….It’s not fair to the fans. Rob said nothing new about the album..please tell us something Mike.

  58. Roger on March 3, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Wow… it proves that it’s not necessary too much money to make a REALLY GOOD VIDEO!

  59. ktacaceres on March 3, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    I like their videos…
Mike, answer me a question… why don’t you say anything about the earthquake in Chile? Chilean fans are waiting for your post or something like that about this. Well, in Warner Music Chile’s twitter I’ve seen a lot of messages from different WM artists but I don’t yours…so, what’s going on? you remember Haiti but forget Chile…that’s not good

  60. Lukas on March 3, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Epic! Mike… Tell Joe to think about directing a lp video like this…. Haha…little challenge for Joe 🙂

  61. Alexandra Nofi on March 3, 2010 at 5:18 pm

I laughed so hard, mainly because this is so freaking cool. Thanks so much for posting it up, especially since this is my first time hearing of Ok Go. I love dominoes and obstacle courses like this. Some people build things like this in the Halo 3 forge, I tried it once, but failed epicly… Anyways, this person made one big domino thing in The Pit, and used it to commit suicide. Pretty damn creative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jje1m9DJp8k&feature=fvst By the way, yeah, I won’t double post again, but I still wanna know about that Mad Hatter Project.

  62. Pinksoldier9 on March 3, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Great post Mike! OK Go does make pretty cool videos, the one for WTF? is amazing too 😀
But i can’t watch the other video…i get from YouTube that it’s got EMI content and it’s not available on my country (i’m from Peru). Can you please tell me what is it about or what song is it so i can search it myself on other pages? 🙂

  63. Steven A. on March 3, 2010 at 5:14 pm

The guy in blue paint, barely gets his glasses on it time. That coulda sucked but made for a good touch at the end. Nice video, thank for sharing Mike.

  64. SOUNEIK on March 3, 2010 at 5:07 pm

I’ll have to watch the one you embedded later. …Some sort of bandwidth hiccup. The other one is trippie… His voice caught me off guard. ‘Don’t have anything weird to say today, Maria?’ “Nope” [points nose up: “snoot”]

  65. mayra on March 3, 2010 at 5:00 pm

    hey mike!
    the video is amazing!

  66. cuz on March 3, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Great, but the moment that the piano got smashed was pretty scary.

  67. Zara on March 3, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I love their videos Mike, maybe you should Joe to go in this kind of direction for a future LP video. Im sure he wouldn’t say no if it meant he could shoot paint at y’all.

    And damn EMI.

  68. Andrew on March 3, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Pretty amazing video, I still think the one with the tredmills is the best, though.

  69. Ellz on March 3, 2010 at 4:33 pm

I was waiting for you to post this. It’s all over the net….

  70. Colin Reid on March 3, 2010 at 4:23 pm

    Hey Mike. How are things?
I was wondering who made that painting that is in your home studio?

    Was it you?
