Download To Donate, iTunes fees

March 8, 2010

From Comments:
What_smiles_cant_afford: “I can buy download to donate on iTunes for something like ten dollars. So does the money from me buying the album go to MFR or iTunes???”

M: Yep, Download To Donate is available on iTunes. A majority of the of the proceeds on iTunes still go to Haiti. We all would have preferred for 100% to go, but they refused to waive their fee…it was a tough call, but getting the word out to the iTunes fan base won in the end.

Therefore, the simple answer is this: for those of you who donate on http://musicforrelief.org/, 100% of your donation goes to Haiti. For those who donate on iTunes, it’s not 100%. If this isn’t ideal for you, feel free to comment on the iTunes page and let Apple know!!!

ask my daughter Jenny wants very much like an autograph from the group Linkin Park, We’ve tried everything with the letter plus reply mails seemingly everything but no sign of life I find you should be treating fans not so bad, most important is their cd s buy but otherwise final is funny, or how, the truth could indeed write it is no autographs from us that we have not Necessary or the like, why do something like this is incomprehensible to me that care, Why Are there any fan addresses when to do for the fans and nothing
I had hoped my daughter would get up on your birthday, or even notice the autograph? If the 16:03 am

    Mike
please Don’t forget Chile…I’m from Santiago, I worked hard for my country in other organizations to help my people in this tragedy. As u know, the earthquake destroyed 6 regions in my country and a tsunami followed the earthquake. Just hours ago there were 2 big aftershocks and people evacuated because there was a tsunami alarm. There are 2 million of homeless people and a lot of people died. I asked Music for Relief for help and they said that they are working for the help, which I’m so happy because of that. PLEASE MIKE!! DON’T FORGET CHILE! WE ONLY NEED A LITTLE HELP, WE NEED TO REBUILD CHILE!!!…

Hey Mike, i just wanted to say that i got an account on Soundcloud.com after hearing about it on this website. It’s pretty good, and it gives me a chance to hear what music i’ve been missing from you.
I like all your Mixtapes and Scores for MTV on there, real nice Mike.
I’m loving everything that you’re doing for the world with your music, i’m sure Kenji would be proud…
Btw, this might be a bit of an innappopiate question, but… What do you think about the “n” word?
I notice you don’t say it, but you sometimes use it in your mixtapes and stuff, and i just kinda wondered if you ever thought about using it or anything…?

  13. cincybmxlpfreak on March 10, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Damn. That’s really lame. You guys should TOTALLY message iTunes and Apple about it almost as a petition. I don’t use iTunes so…yeah…

[[Hey Mike, how’s the album coming along? Mike, are you guys going to be messing with the vocals, like adding effects??? cause those things really make the sound sound dope🙂. I don’t know, but considering you guys will be releasing a game…and considering the new LP.com format…I can’t help think you guys are coming with something like “Arcade Rock” type of genre. By the way, that genre still does exist, so it would be super dope if it came to life thanks to LP. Again, my mind is just wondering.]]

  17. Gloria on March 10, 2010 at 7:48 am

I would have to say in this situation that it’s the thought that counts. It’s a great idea that you guys added the Download to Donate to Haiti album to iTunes because it does get the word out about helping those who are unfortunate. It’s a shame that not 100% of the proceeds go to Haiti from iTunes. You’d think they get over their money making schemes for one moment to help out a country in need. I’m just glad that something is going to them and that you guys are thinking outside of the box when it comes to promoting for a good cause.

  18. Nicholas on March 10, 2010 at 7:36 am

I know you are too busy and my things would stress up your nerves, but I would be very thankful if you give your time on checking the music. If you don’t want to,it’s okay with me…

apple profiting off of a charity? oh well that’s business . i mean they NEED to do that to earn money, i would rather donate in musicforrelief than in itunes. :((

  21. Lucas Denault on March 10, 2010 at 2:45 am

I can’t believe itunes is profiting off of charity! Well i can’t wait for the new album! and i hope you make a new Fort Minor album cause it was off the hook!

  22. reflectionist on March 10, 2010 at 12:40 am

Thats because Apple is the worst company with horrible products. I hope they burn in hell for profiting off of charity.

  29. Vanessa Weger on March 9, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Hi Mike, one question: How can I get the songs for Haiti??? I have’ nt ITunes and I can’ t get it. Love, Vanessa

  30. TheGlueLpFan on March 9, 2010 at 1:00 pm

I think that it is important to get the word out on iTunes cause after all the majority of people get their music from there but it is a better choice to donate through musicforrelief.org.I don’t think iTunes will change their politic though…and it’s too bad since it’s for such an important cause.Anyway…I feel like I’m spamming you cause I’m posting this link for the third time but I just want to know your opinion on this:
    http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/interviews/judas_priest_biographer_linkin_parks_hybrid_theory_still_sounds_fresh.html

  31. Frannie on March 9, 2010 at 12:59 pm

Maybe there’s a reason behind why they did that. At least they’re helping out. But whatever it is I’m on 100% full support on MFR.

  32. EvoOba on March 9, 2010 at 12:42 pm

What do you think about the “earth is dying” thing? Do you think these earthquakes that have happened lately are random?

  33. KATHYxx on March 9, 2010 at 11:47 am

Imacce – if there were no ProTools, there would be something else. Capitalism always will find someone to fill a niche.

Apple is just a hipster version of Microsoft, and their bullying of other companies leaves no room for my pity.

  34. iMacce on March 9, 2010 at 10:58 am

You guys who said Apple sucks: You know that most of the Music (incl. Linkin Park) would not be so great without Pro Tools etc.?? Of course they suck that they get money for it, but nobody says you should buy it on itunes… or?? Think about it! – iMacce

  35. PierreFrance on March 9, 2010 at 10:24 am

That is good to know! We must continue to donate!
Something more: Mike, have you seen the movie “Logorama”?
If you didn’t, that is a good movie I tell you!😉

Hey, Mike. I was wondering why I saw Download to Donate on iTunes, but now I understand. Thank you for clearing it up for us.

I have a question. Will you guys perform “Not Alone”?

  55. Andrea / Squishy Ho on March 8, 2010 at 7:32 pm

is Download to Donate gonna be profiting both Chile AND Haïti? could be quite cool if it did.

  56. Xandro Pontillas on March 8, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Hey iTunes!!!!! Do something!!! Its for the sake of the victims!!!

  58. Harry on March 8, 2010 at 6:25 pm

It’s sad that iTunes can’t remove these laws for Haiti, even when they’re desperatley in need😦 . I bought it on iTunes; Not Alone is my favorite😀 . Can’t wait for the game and the album! Feel free to take your time though- Quality>Quantity!!

  59. SergSlim on March 8, 2010 at 5:20 pm

Hey Mike, didn’t you tell in some interview that PayPal doesn’t take fees for donations to D2D, but only until some date, which I guess already passed?

So if I’m correct not 100% of donations through mfr.com goes to MFR, cause some fee goes to PayPal. Am I correct?

  60. lpfmfan on March 8, 2010 at 5:12 pm

I like the fact for those of us that can’t have credit cards or paypal etc., can buy an iTunes cards and then buy it on iTunes. Good call.

I hate that people on iTunes rating the album 1 star because they got it free and on iTunes they have to pay for it. I’ll be rating it so Apple waives their fees.

    Ana A.

  61. Skyzlmt on March 8, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Apples got to get theirs. Wouldn’t want them to go under or anything because of potential D2D income.

  62. Marshall on March 8, 2010 at 4:58 pm

It is great that download to donate is so successful. Can’t wait until your new album, will you at least release 1 song before it’s release?

  63. Zara on March 8, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Im appalled by iTunes. They couldnt waive their fee for Haiti.

  64. Valentina on March 8, 2010 at 4:34 pm

hey Mike, i know that i asked in MRF page, but i didnt get an answer… whats going on with the Chilean Earthquake?:/ there is something that you can do guys to help them? I mean I know that in chile was so bad, but there is a lot of people that need help, and the government can help to everybody. Im from Chile and im living in US cuz im an exchange student… but i saw the news online and everything look really bad… we get help from Russia… but where the question is .. is music for relief going to do something about it? if not its ok🙂 im just wondering
    Well have a good day🙂
    Thanks for help Haiti!😀

  65. Alexandra Nofi on March 8, 2010 at 4:20 pm

You know how I am about charity money… Anyways, this is interesting. I think most fans will want the opportunity to chose how much they donate, when they donate, and be able to have the music for free. It’s a win-win in that respect. I think it’s bizarre and a tad rude, that iTunes would want to make profit this way. First of all, they don’t need to suck up those last few dollars, and secondly, wouldn’t they want to show that they have a probono side to them? Knowing that iTunes is profitting turns me off, and makes me think twice about using their services.

  66. Erik on March 8, 2010 at 4:09 pm
