Best Keytar Performance

May 24, 2010

OK, after the last post, I found a few other legendary keytar videos.  I can’t decide which one is my favorite.  What do you think?

1.) Brett Domino

2.) “Dr. Ryman”:

or
3.) Larry Neely

…OK, technically Dr. Ryman’s isn’t a keytar, it’s a “shoulder keyboard.”  But that doesn’t stop him from rocking the f*ck out, so I say, let him be a contender.

You’re so awesome. Keytar performances. You are the coolest.

  2. The Head on June 2, 2010 at 2:24 am

When will you goin’ to post who’s the winner?

  3. Martha on June 1, 2010 at 8:01 am

Dr. Ryman is the best in my opinion. He just jams from beginning to end, like Pat Metheny, if you know who that is. Plus, he has great hair….

  4. Nessa on May 31, 2010 at 3:22 am

For this 3 players i have to say they are good, everyone with different style, i like the 3, but if i have to choose, so i choose Brett Domino

  5. Mikes on May 29, 2010 at 10:53 pm

    Stup:)

  6. michael macdonald on May 29, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Why did you choose that track from Dr Ryman? That was a tribute in memoriam to his best friend, Michael, who died a few years ago. check out http://www.planet606.com
then you’ll get a better idea of keytar.

  7. manasina on May 29, 2010 at 6:10 pm

they are all good but the only one with real tone is Dr. Ryman!!!! so he gets my vote!

  8. Intrepid Singer on May 29, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Dr. Ryman is amazing! He has taken a keyboard that was meant to be a keyboard & made it sing, groan, scream & crunch as if it was a real guitar. Additionally, he’s making most of the other sounds, filming, editing and producing his videos. Therefore, if there is another multi-talented musical “alien” out there who can compete with the mad skills & soul of Dr. Ryman, please get this individual to step forward so that we can see its 10 arms, 3 heads & other accoutrements that enable this individual to stand toe-to-toe & shred with the good doctor. I submit that he’s one of the most talented people to appear on YouTube or any other social media site & should be world famous by now.

  9. Keytaristic on May 29, 2010 at 3:55 pm

    Dr Ryman = Tone + original song….

  10. Sunrise_Ashes on May 29, 2010 at 7:01 am

Their fingers move so fast! Man, I wish I could play any keyboard, or any type. Maybe that will be my goal this summer.

  11. Maik Gianino on May 28, 2010 at 8:12 pm

  15. Celestial on May 27, 2010 at 12:00 am

Larry Neely is a badman and he has his own applause.mp3. That’s important!

  16. Eric on May 26, 2010 at 9:00 pm

Omg😄 Brett domino, the next LP member. IDK about you guys but i think brett has that “it” rockstar factor. those glasses and hair scream heavy metal

  17. Kayleigh on May 26, 2010 at 10:28 am

You should seriously check out Matthew Bellamy from Muse playing Undisclosed Desires on Keytar! It’s awesome!!!

  18. LP_marcia on May 26, 2010 at 6:10 am

I voted for Larry Neely, but Brett Domino is really good too haha I like his headphones😀

  19. Jen88 on May 26, 2010 at 3:22 am

Mike, dude, you gotta get one of those! =]

  20. PrincessNymphetamine on May 26, 2010 at 2:21 am

    Larry kicked it’s assssss!

  21. ernieball003 on May 25, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Get Ryman a guitar and Neely a bass. Thus the winner by default, and awesomeness, is Brett.

  22. Jacrid on May 25, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Voted for Larry since the other two “performances” look quite boring (souns awesome though). Larry seems to have fun playing, and he plays very good!!

  23. Jes" on May 25, 2010 at 7:24 pm

Wow now I can understand why you can’t choose between them, haha they’re good but Larry neely is more my style haha but Brett domino is so good too so I wait that them win haha.

  24. Morinoajin on May 25, 2010 at 4:03 pm

Interesting but how do you determine who’s better than the other? Keytars are pretty new to me🙂

  25. Scott on May 25, 2010 at 1:30 pm

Mike I got 8-bit rebellion and it’s pretty fun. I’ve liked the game and new songs you guys have gave us between MtM and now but you really need to work on the album. It needs to come out soon. I can’t wait anymore. I also understand making really good quality like the last three albums have been so don’t rush. Just don’t make us wait 4 years after telling us 2. I know you’ve been nagged about nu metal when this album is going to be unique. I f you want to bring a new sound in that is great just please don’t leave your old music that all the fans loved you for in the first place.

  26. Adam De Young on May 25, 2010 at 1:00 pm

No question…hands down…the BD riff is the best!!

  27. mauriceloeff on May 25, 2010 at 11:28 am

Well I think that Neely really (lol) makes the best performance here. The other two are also very good and entertaining but Neely really gives it the most guitar like feel!

  28. Denise on May 25, 2010 at 11:00 am

Hey Mike, I love the first one!
    He’s very talented!😉

How it’s going? Are you ok? We are all supporting you & LP for the new album, You’re voice always helps me when I’m sad, and it always helped me when I was in bad moments. You have a great gift. Voice. Thanks for all you made, and all you will do for us. I’m very grateful.

Sorry for the poor English, I’m Italian. Thanks for everything, Mike.

  29. katouche*didi* on May 25, 2010 at 6:29 am

I don’t know. all of them are good! but I think Brett Domino is the best of all!!!

    XD!!!

But can you play keytar youself??? LoL

  30. Jo_o8 on May 25, 2010 at 4:20 am

What’s the point of the keytar anyway? Is it for people that can’t be bothered playing the guitar but want to look like they are playing one.

  31. Timo Sonnenschein on May 25, 2010 at 3:37 am

    Mike,

did you saw the big marching band version of “What ive done?”. Its great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIze2yhmlzw

  33. Annie on May 25, 2010 at 3:12 am

ahhh! That’s tough! Brett Domino I choose YOU! LOL

Dr. Ryman looks like Axl Rose with a shoulder keyboard…LOL

How ’bout you MIke? Any video like that?

  34. Danibg on May 25, 2010 at 2:58 am

    Brett Domino !

  35. orionwong on May 25, 2010 at 2:36 am

Does this mean ppl now learning electric guitar is a waste of time? Anyway, I voted Domino, becoz i love his remix of MJ’s songs=)

  36. sabrina on May 25, 2010 at 12:26 am

dont you have to concentrate on the new album :DD?

  37. Mikado on May 24, 2010 at 11:10 pm

For me Larry Neely rocked this category. I had fun with his video.

  38. EpicLinkinPark on May 24, 2010 at 10:17 pm

I still have to say Bret, That was one hell of a tribute to Michael Jackson, Beat it was one of my favs Bret did. He did an Epic job, RIP Michael Jackson. Larry was pretty awesome too, they all were. :]

  39. Super_Nani on May 24, 2010 at 10:16 pm

They are all cool…can wonderful play the keytar!!
and it´s difficult to choose, but i think my favourite is the power jammer Larry Neely!!!:)

  40. Chris on May 24, 2010 at 10:09 pm

    Larry Neely😉

  41. murry on May 24, 2010 at 5:22 pm

You guys are currently using a keytar in the studio, aren’t you?

  42. jason on May 24, 2010 at 5:01 pm

    Muse!! Undisclosed Desires.

  43. rubyred on May 24, 2010 at 4:43 pm

Dammit Mike I can’t choose either lol. Dr. Ryman and Larry Neely were equally impressive, but gotta love the Michael Jackson medley too. Hey, you should come up with your own keytar composition! Throw it into the mix too :p

  44. Señor Jebus on May 24, 2010 at 4:41 pm

something tells me we might get some keytar in the next album…

  45. papercutx1 on May 24, 2010 at 4:17 pm

    Larry Neely is f***ing great!

  46. Sarah A. on May 24, 2010 at 3:55 pm

That’s pretty down yo😛 I really liked Brett Domino, not because of all the MJ, but because he beasted at it.

  47. AustinW on May 24, 2010 at 3:10 pm

Larry was clearly the better player, but i think Brett had a better all together performance.

    Learn to play Keytar, Mike!

  48. linkinparkbelgiummanager on May 24, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Larry Neely is so fast with his fingers, I can play piano that fast… But holding something like that, I can’t beleive it’s possible.😮

  49. CurlyLp on May 24, 2010 at 1:27 pm

WOW those guys are brilliant!! Well… Yeah it’s a difficult choise but i voted Brett Domino. He is f*cking amazing!😀 And is very cool see a comment by ScoopDeville in your site!😀

  50. CathyLP on May 24, 2010 at 1:26 pm

where do u get the idea to put these up?
    lol
    love ya❤

  51. Reggie on May 24, 2010 at 1:23 pm

when are you going to play the keytar?

  52. Alexandra Nofi on May 24, 2010 at 1:00 pm

After listening Mr. Larry Neely, I find it very hard to believe that you can’t pick a favorite. Bret Domino didn’t do much for me, sounds way to much like electronica Thriller, and Dr. Ryman’s drug experience video gives me the creeps.

I totally voted for Neely. NEELY FOR THE WIN!!! ;D

  53. TheGlueLpFan on May 24, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Larry Neely is the best for me…I love his style if I might say.And he seems really into it so yeah…that’s my choice.

  54. Souneik on May 24, 2010 at 12:25 pm

    1) Mike Shinoda [King of the dorks] .ha

  55. nida on May 24, 2010 at 12:06 pm

it is hard to choose. #2 out- repeats the same thing over and over again…
    #1 good song low performance
#2 song kinda good not that much but the performance is beast!

  56. keineAhnung on May 24, 2010 at 12:02 pm

That’s a really tough decision…Brett Domino has an awesome medley, but his performance lacks enthusiasm, whereas Larry Neeley’s performance simply rocks but his song is not as original as Domino’s. Well and Dr. Ryman…he just makes me wonder what kind of drugs he took (and where I can get them ;))
In the end I choose Larry Neeley, that guy’s a performer…lol…he should be your support act on the next lp tour😉

  57. joannasasanka on May 24, 2010 at 11:49 am

    lol
    they r awesome

  58. Tami on May 24, 2010 at 11:16 am

I just loved all the 3 … but Larry is the best!!

  59. Fatima on May 24, 2010 at 11:15 am

    I voted for Larry Neely!😛
    but they’re all cool!😀

  60. Lílian Rachel on May 24, 2010 at 11:09 am

I was in doubt between Domino Brett Neely and Larry!
Larry Neely is very good, but the Brett Domino won, it’s amazing!

    Great video Mike, thanks!

  61. EvoOba_ on May 24, 2010 at 11:08 am

Hmmm…Tough decission. Everyone kicks some serious ass!😀 But I voted for the first guy Brett Domino because I think he plays the keytar in a kinda unique way and besides you posted his video yesterday so I think his permormance caught everyone’s eye better than the others🙂

Btw what an honor to have ScoopDeville posting on your blog! The guy is simply a genious!🙂

  62. Ahnimus on May 24, 2010 at 11:07 am

Brett Domino is cool, especially since he looks straight out of the 70s topped off with the polka dot wallpaper in the background, but Larry is just plain awesome.

  63. Mattesh25 on May 24, 2010 at 11:06 am

Larry for sure! Dudes crazy awsome.

  64. cuz on May 24, 2010 at 11:01 am

Hard to choose. They are all great. First video – I love Michael Jackson and the mash-up was very fluent, second – great melodies and addition of piano and drums, third – lots of energy. I picked Dr. Ryman but all of them have something special.

  65. Ross on May 24, 2010 at 10:58 am

wrong, THIS is the best keytar out there.

    SHOWBREAD!

Thank you, and may Raw Rock kill you forever and ever. Amen.

  66. Genesis on May 24, 2010 at 10:54 am

Larry for sure. I might just have to buy myself a Keytar and teach myself how to play.

  67. lis on May 24, 2010 at 10:52 am

    ooooh god…

i feel so small right now. u.u

i think you must buy keytar for youself)))

  72. kelly on May 24, 2010 at 10:38 am

holy shit it’s really hard between 1 and 3 because i love 1 because its like, fucking mj hits and the thrid because well, for obvious reasons.. damn i think number 3 is probably the best player, but the first one is just so smooth
i think you can tell i’m having trouble LOL

  73. casey mynatt on May 24, 2010 at 10:38 am

I love larry the best mike. But all of them are good so its was a hard choose.

  74. PR on May 24, 2010 at 10:38 am

You do not have a job?/¿No tendrias que estar trabajando?😛
    hahah sorry…
