Finding New Music

August 28, 2010

Some folks asked recently how I find new music. Here are three of my favorites.

http://www.pandora.com/
Most of us already know about and use it. My favorite way to use Pandora? iPhone–free app, just plug it into the car, and you’re streaming awesome new–or your favorite old–music.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myspace-music-romeo/id384134009?mt=8
The MySpace Music Romeo app for iPad is my favorite new app. You decide what kind of video channel you want it to make, and it customizes it for you. The only downside: too many commercials. But it’s free, so hopefully a paid version that eliminates the ads is on the way.

http://shuffler.fm/
This is internet radio made from music blogs…Whenever you make something like this, it’s all about the decision of which blogs to pull from. For my taste, this one is working. The design is clean, easy to use, and most importantly, the music is great.

Relief Effort in Pakistan

August 17, 2010

I need to take a quick break from LP/ATS press / promo to give you guys a heads-up on a new Music For Relief effort.

Monsoon rains have caused the worst flooding in Pakistan in 80 years.  20 million people have been affected – more than the number of people affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined.
With their homes and livestock destroyed, millions of families have had their lives turned upside down.  Displaced families are camping on roadsides.  Many lack shelter, food, and clean water.

MFR is partnering with the UN Refugee Agency to help provide shelter and life-saving aid to millions of people in need. Our goal is to reach and serve 560,000 survivors, but we need your ongoing support.

Here are two ways you can help:
Make a donation to help victims of the Pakistan Floods today. Go to www.musicforrelief.org/donate to make a contribution.  100% of your donations will help survivors in Pakistan; MFR is matching individual donations up to $10,000 for this recovery effort.

Or support MFR’s Pakistan Flood Relief on Socialvibe.com.  Go to http://www.socialvibe.com/musicforrelief and complete the activities.  Even if you are unable to make a financial donation, you can help those affected by the Floods on Socialvibe.com.

Once you’ve taken action, please share your support of MFR for the Pakistan Floods on Facebook, Twitter or forward this email to friends and family and ask them to do the same.

First Day On The Road

August 17, 2010

Just arrived in Germany.  It’s the first day of a short promotional tour for A THOUSAND SUNS.  I’m still adjusting to the idea that this album is finally about to be released into the world after almost two years of hard work.  Today (and for the next few days) Phoenix and I will be talking to people from all over the world about the songs, our recording process, the release, and what we like to eat and do when we’re in Germany.

Danke vielmals!

Yo Gabba Gabba, Habitat, and Music For Relief

August 13, 2010

As some of you will remember, Music For Relief and Linkin Park has started funding a Habit For Humanity green home in the L.A. area.  HFH provides housing to families in need who qualify for their program. In many cases, the homes are given to a parents and children who would have otherwise never been able to afford one.  Plus, our MFR/ HFH home is LEED certified, which will mean less burden on the environment as well as the family that occupies it.

Yesterday, as a result of a random and amazing chain of events, the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba visited our site to take some pictures and talk about Habitat For Humanity.  Apparently, they are going on tour, and donating $1 for every ticket to HFH.  Awesome!

If it’s good enough for DJ Lance Rock, it’s good enough for you…we need your help. Please donate to the green home HERE.

NEW Linkin Park App

August 12, 2010

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As anyone who follows the band knows, we usually have a LOT of stuff going on.  The tough part for us is finding a simpler way to keep you guys up-to-date.  We’re trying out a new solution: the new Linkin Park App, for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android.

The app is FREE.  It has all the obvious stuff, like news and tour dates, but also plays all our LPTV episodes and videos, finds other LP fans in your area (if you want), and collects all Linkin Park online activity, all in one place.  You can connect it to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, so you can respond to a blog post or video without opening and closing a bunch of windows.  You can also shoot photos at the concert, and immediately upload them online using the app…and it ranks users based on activity, so if you’re active on our sites, you’ll get recognized.

It currently supports English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, and Turkish.  More to come.

For iTunes: http://awe.sm/595m7
For Android: http://awe.sm/595mD

Also, for those of you who have already downloaded the app, I just created a thread on the message board to discuss ways to make it better: http://www.linkinpark.com/forum/topics/new-linkin-park-app

Thanks!
