Shinoda’s Hello Kitty Art Basel Miami preview

November 20, 2010

I’ve been invited by Sanrio to participate in “Small Gift,” their 50th anniversary art show. The image above is an unfinished detail of the piece (it’s not the whole thing).ย  My piece will be on display at Art Basel in Miami from Dec 2-5.ย  Go here for more info.

(Special thanks to R. Gastman for coordinating everything)

Gracias enserio amo a Hello Kitty, pero tu la haces ver mas original.

  2. contentsupressed on November 29, 2010 at 4:33 pm

The Art looks inspired by Lord Saraswati, i saw couple of images from your studio, to be specific one was tagged as chester’s vaporized arm, my point of saying all this things here is, i have been listening to you guys from a decade and still you never played in my country india, should i wait for the end or in the end it would not matter. playing music at same places is kind of like playing same music every time and you don’t want that crap mike i saw you saying that in the A Thousand Suns making documentary on that note a quote from A Thousand Suns ” I guess we all thought one way or another”

This is possibly the manliest show you’ve ever been a part of.

Also, this makes me obscenely happy. Good heavens, but it’s grand.

Congrats on being invited to showcase your unique artwork of “Hello Kitty”. Love the beginning sketches of what looks like “Lakshmi” the Goddess of Prosperity, Wealth, Purity, Generosity, & the embodiment of beauty, grace & charm.

She’s actually one of my favorite Hindu goddesses (have a pic of her as my wallpaper)! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m excited to see the finish masterpiece!

A sketch by Mike Shinoda… A dream comes true! So happy and grateful that could see it! Thanks so much, Mike! Is it going to be a painting, then?

  21. italianarmenian on November 21, 2010 at 10:09 pm

I like the Ganesha reference. One of my best friends, Koda has a thing for Hello Kitty, and I’m planning on getting Ganesh tattooed on my knee. You have amazing taste and style and grace. May Buddha/God/powers that be bless you, and have a happy Thanksgiving. I tried to make salmon pinwheels tonight that I bought from the grocery store, and BLEGH… soo greasy. Ended up dousing them in garlic salt and that made a bit of a difference. Have a couple of steaks in the fridge for my dude. Just started eating meat. Not impressed. Ate it growing up, and I couldn’t wait to become a veggie. Moved out when I was 12 to escape the ciggarette smoke and the red meat.

  22. Ally on November 21, 2010 at 8:42 pm

You know the first thing I thought of was Senju when I saw this, and thought Kannon haha. I don’t know I am stuck on the word Senju now. As for Shiva that can also be a option.

I am too far though to go see this as Miami is about…mmmm…8 hours away lol. I do wish; however, good luck with the art piece, and I hope to see the final piece.

  23. pinguninjitsu on November 21, 2010 at 6:51 pm

I adore Hello Kitty art! And this is totally awesome!

Side note, I don’t get why everyone always says Goddess Shiva… cause Shiva’s the God of Destruction. I love Final Fantasy, but I always feel weird after summoning a scantily clad, obviously female, Shiva… lol

  24. melbapinckney on November 21, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Hi Mike, Thanks for fixing the comment wall :D) Looks cool. I can’t want to see it when finish. LOL!

  29. treadstone35 on November 21, 2010 at 11:45 am

    How sweet and artful. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Mike, have you ever thought about creating own collection of school paraphernalia such as covers of the books, patterns on pencil cases etc.? I know that it sounds commercially and banally, but I suppose that many people would like to have something like this formed by you …. I’m between them ๐Ÿ˜€ I won’t urge you on this, but I will only say that are artists or fashion designers who have taken part in it ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. souneik on November 21, 2010 at 10:22 am

I think you just made me realize something. So wait you lightly sketch it out and then you go over it once you have the idea? I just sorta scribble it out of my head as fast as I can and then abandon it. LOL Yea, I guess foundation is key. Oh yea, I almost forget, sometimes when I hear really dope songs I forget everything and go make something of my own. I forgot to tell you that “I Have Not Begun” was NAS-TEE โ™ซโ™ชโ™ซ

YAYZ! I can see the comments again!

Hello Kitty really grew up. No offense to you or anything like that, but, she looks like the Hello Kitty version of Sailor Moon… (Speaking of which, there were some cosplayers in my work yesterday, dressed as Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars, their costumes were spot on, too).

  36. argol8489 on November 21, 2010 at 8:16 am

Why is Hello Kitty? She is gentle and powerful as your
