New Painting: “Overnight”, All Paint-No Canvas

April 4, 2011

Here’s my new piece, “Overnight.”  It will be on view at TINY TRIFECTA, in Williamsburg from April 9th to May 1st, 2011.  It’s only about 4″x6″–probably one of the smallest pieces I’ve done in years, and made entirely of paint–no canvas.

TINY TRIFECTA: 100 artists, $100 each piece, on the 100th day of the year.

The Cotton Candy Machine
235 South 1st Street (between Roebling and Havemeyer)
Brooklyn, NYC 11211

  29. brysislupin on April 5, 2011 at 11:47 am

I dont agree with you!:) You can totally love and hate smthing at the same time!
When you admire\respect\love someone the non-sense stuff aplies!
And respecting someone´s job isnt being a fangirl! Its being mature and open minded! 🙂

  30. shivani94 on April 5, 2011 at 8:22 am

well!! sitting here i can only dream of having such a tremendous painting. Its outstanding man!!

  31. afragilebear on April 5, 2011 at 4:32 am

  35. dorito82 on April 5, 2011 at 12:00 am

That looks REALLY cool! I’d(and I’m sure, the rest of us inept people) would really like to know how you did this.

  36. mutt21184 on April 4, 2011 at 9:10 pm

the fact its all paint is really cool.. i would not have even thought of paint as a meduim… the colors are really well put together… when is ur next show in LA???

  37. skyzlmt on April 4, 2011 at 8:55 pm

Mike, let me buy it for $500 and donate the difference to MFR! 🙂 Maybe create another one for auction or just hook me up and I’ll write a check. Paid $500 for “Ace of Spades” but an original is worth much more even though it’s only 4×6.

Please encourage the person who buys it to come forward so I can wheel and deal for it. 😉

  38. milasouza11 on April 4, 2011 at 7:42 pm

I LOVE YOUR PAINTINGS… and i can give one tip about my new shinoda’s tattoo.
It’s about one of your paintings!! YEAAAHHH \o/ can you guess which them?
If not.. wait until April 16 th *——-*

I would to say 2 things: 1º – It’s been wonderful, the fact that you are appearing every day on twitter \o/\o/ I like it!

  42. r2d277 on April 4, 2011 at 3:51 pm

    Good job Mike!!!

  43. betty108 on April 4, 2011 at 2:33 pm

You can’t “love” something “even if you hate it.” That makes absolutely no sense. Just because you admire someone doesn’t mean you will love everything that person does; that’s just being a fangirl. Respect has nothing to do with this- just look up the definition.

Anyways, cool painting. I’d definitely try to buy it if I lived near New York.
    I hate Chicago..

  44. v_forse on April 4, 2011 at 1:56 pm

Nice job Mike! good color gam.

  45. brysislupin on April 4, 2011 at 1:32 pm

When you admire someone you will love everything he does even if you hate it!
    That´s called respect!

Mike it´s great! This urban art you so like to create is so not my type of art but that doesn´t affect my judgement. You´re a great artist, full of talent and everything you do ( and like most of the artists) cames from you heart and mind and that means a lot for us, the fans!

  46. mikeecem on April 4, 2011 at 11:45 am

    i’m dead :O

  47. evooba on April 4, 2011 at 11:33 am

This is freaking dope!!!! It’s amazing! 😀 amazing work. And I love the no canvas idea. You’re a genius Mike, seriously.

  48. adiek84 on April 4, 2011 at 11:22 am

Hey, that came earlier than expected! Good job! I really like that you didn’t use a canvas, it makes the piece really special.

@Alexandra I don’t think that art is about “trying hard” or having a B.A. in illustration. What would be great about a picture that is perfectly painted but doesn’t hold any meaning? Still, I agree with you that some fans wouldn’t criticize Mike, even if they hated the picture. Though I must say that I have already seen some pretty negative comments on other posts here.

  49. dovingbird on April 4, 2011 at 10:42 am

Do want. I’ma go practice my thiefing skills so I can get it from whoever buys it.

    Very cool! Love it!

  56. Alexandra Nofi on April 4, 2011 at 9:28 am

Mike, I have to remind you that you have a B.A. in Illustration… I’m sorry but I LOLed so much dude… I really did!

The idea of making a painting out of paint only is pretty cool, I just wish it looked like you spent more time on it. It is really obvious you didn’t try very hard, but that doesn’t matter because your name is Mike Shinoda so half the people who comment here will love it anyways. (This lack of honesty from fans is part of why I have no desire to be famous).

Still going to the art show, though 😀

  57. ellzworth on April 4, 2011 at 9:25 am

    $100 bucks for a SHINODA?
Can I just purchase it now since I live in Los Angeles?
    Well done.

That photo doesn’t represent it as well when I realized I was looking at a photo of something probably at least half as small, if not three times as small. You made it look ginormous!

Now I’m trying to look at it from across the room.
