The Raid film score

September 9, 2011

For a long time, I have been wanting to score a film. In order for it to work, it would have to have a great story, stunning visuals, and the timing would have to work out in a way that didn’t distract from all the things I want to do with Linkin Park.

I’m really excited to have finally found the right project. The movie is called The Raid. Its intense martial arts choreography, amazing cinematography, and great story have been inspiring all kinds of new music. I’m excited for all of you to see—and hear—this film.

Below is the trailer (via MTV). It is age restricted due to violent content. I’ve attached some photos beneath that for those who can’t view the video.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I don’t know how to contact you except through your blog, so here goes. I was wondering if you’d be interested in hanging out sometime. I love your music and I live close by (N. Hollywood), so I thought, why not ask? You guys take lunch breaks same as everyone else, right? I’ve always wanted to get to know you guys in person. I’m a writer and thought it might be cool to spend some time with you and, if you’d like, I’d be happy to blog about it on and give your fans some content to enjoy while you’re whipping up that new album. I know you in particular enjoy engaging with your fans, so I thought I’d ask you first.

    Either way, stay awesome!

What programs do you use? When the guys are fighting in mid air while falling are they living zombies or something else? Or is that the secret of the universe. Anyways, hope you’ve been well.

    Hi Mike,
    Good luck with the film!
I’d like to say thank you so much for coming to Tokyo. A Thousand Horizons and two nights at Chiba were great experiences for me!! As I said at the M&G, your twitter encouraged me so much after the quake, because even in Tokyo it was chaotic at first…. I do admire what you do to help others, and please keep it that way!!
I’d like to know what Sendai was like when you actually went there and met students there, maybe in LPTV?
I was thrilled to listen to No Roads Left at the live too. Please come to Tokyo again soon, we already miss you!!

BTW, welcome to Jakarta Mike 🙂

  27. spraypaintninkpens on September 14, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Wow, this score is going to be as dope as the VMA scores were. Madison and 100 degrees gave me this same sort of feeling from listening to it- sick as fck. About time, Mike. About damn time. FM fans miss the beats(and rap).

Sounds good! You write some really beautiful music. Even though Ntr/Mission is only 30 seconds, it’s burned in me as one of my favourite songs, and I absolutely love the piano versions of Hybrid Theory/Meteora songs, and I love ‘Session’ and ‘Cure For The Itch’! Can’t wait to hear this. Instrumental galore!

  30. morganatenebre on September 14, 2011 at 6:01 am

I can’t wait to watch the movie. It’s very similar with a brazilian movie that made sucess “Tropa de Elite” (the history is about the corrupt police in Rio de Janeiro, the violence and the truth heros). U can check out and u will understand wht i’m talking about.

That trailer was epic … I think my face melted off
Which was bad cause it had melted off just before that when I watched ‘A Thousand Horizons’ which was insanly, amazingly, epic! My laptop didn’t know what happened to it.
    Can’t wait to watch this!

Hope that it will be shown in the Philippines.

  33. lot321 on September 13, 2011 at 3:39 am

um….honestly, im not interested in the film after having watching the trailer, even if i were to watch the film im still not interested in it….BUT HONESTLY, im much much more interested in the film score !! 😀
just being plain honest….and yeah, i think thats wat Mike would sound like without any influence from Rick Rubin which is pure effing awesome to the ears !!

    With love,

  37. penneysound on September 11, 2011 at 9:47 pm

i’ve been thinking for a long time that i’d love to see a linkin park film. either an album as a film, with songs and videos planned together, or as a narrative film, either original or adaptation, screenwritten/produced/acted/directed/scored by the band, accompanied by an album. talk about mixed media, imagine a band putting out a film.

  38. haven85 on September 11, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Hi Mike, This doesnt have anything to do with the film although it sounds cool !! I have a question to ask you about possibly being able to use a song from linkin park in my student film at Sheridan College. Its a student film and will be animated in 3-D. I have been inspired by linkin parks music for as long as I can remember and being able to use a song from you guys would be amazing. i just had no idea what kind of channels i had to go through in order to see if it would be okay with the group. any info or anything would be greatly appreciated.. thanks for your time

  39. demozene on September 11, 2011 at 4:11 am

I like the trailer score, hope the film will be awasome too

    The trailer is pretty dope….
    All the best Mikey 🙂

  41. zwierz90 on September 11, 2011 at 3:12 am

Really looking forward to this project! Song from this trailer sounds very ‘shinodish’ and I hope that the rest of this stuff will sound like that too. I loved your VMA tracks and this might be even better!
By the way, I made this remix and video recently and it would be really awesome if you could take a look at it:

  42. highlandpark1999 on September 11, 2011 at 1:56 am

I do like the music score (congrats Mike!) plus the movie trailer looks amazing!!! Looking forward to watching this film, Indonesia is sure doing things right! I’m tired of watching wimpy CGI movies made on my side of the planet!
Plus, this film deserves an album soundtrack with the likes of Slayer, Hatebreed, Meshuggah, Behemoth, Megadeth, Rammstein, etc.

  43. MobileHill on September 10, 2011 at 10:15 pm

Well dang, man you knocked it out of the park with that trailer track. Congrats and good luck. Really loved the work on the Fort Minor album. Did you ever release an instrumental version of that album anywhere? Id like to buy it if so. Guess I should check iTunes or something.

  44. kytheram on September 10, 2011 at 8:32 pm

I just wanted to say first off, thank you for taking the time to respond to my question, it’s more than appreciated. I want to remind everyone of Reanimation, because I’m sure you get tons of questions, and interviews about a new album and whatnot but Reanimation, changed my life from the day I listened to it. If I had to chose one record to hold on to for the rest of my life, that would be it. Today, nearly 10 years later, it still sounds like it was made this yesterday, and it’s always the cd player of my car every morning. I’m not writing this to flatter you, but rather just to maybe make you aware of the impact that it has had, because it is rarely talked about. thank you

  45. cincybmxlpfreak on September 10, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Awesome! Is this movie gonna be in theaters or is this a TV movie? Btw…This music is so you, Mike. The music in this trailer definitely reminds me of “Krwlng.”

  46. Rana LP addict on September 10, 2011 at 1:31 pm

That’s really awesome..I’m watching the movie very soon for YOU!!!! *claps*

  47. whosmurry on September 10, 2011 at 12:52 pm

While I’m really excited for you to score a film, I’m afraid I might have to skip this one. A bit too violent for my taste. The music sounds great, though.

  48. thegluelpfan on September 10, 2011 at 11:34 am

I can’t tell you how excited I am for you…gotta say I’ve been waiting for that ever since you scored the VMAs in 2005 🙂 Can’t wait to see the finished product 🙂

  49. Whitney on September 10, 2011 at 11:07 am

Mike – (Dude, when do you SLEEP?)
I’ve always been a huge fan of your instrumental tracks and always thought you’d make a fantastic film composer, so I am really excited to hear about this new project. Let us know when the soundtrack is available!

Why this doesn’t surprise me? I just knew that sooner or later you’ll try something like this on your own. You just couldn’t resist new project, could you, mr Shinoda? 🙂
Just kiddin’ – I’m glad you work also on other projects, everytime you learn something new, right? 🙂
I’m not a fan of this kind of movies, but I’ll check your score for sure – I’m a fan of scores. Can’t wait to hear it.
