The Rising Tied 10 Year Anniversary

November 22, 2015

Fort Minor’s THE RISING TIED turned 10 today!  I don’t want to get all nostalgic, but I thought it would be appropriate to jump back in time for a moment.

By the mid-2000s, Our band had made two studio albums (Hybrid Theory and Meteora), a remix album (Reanimation), and Collision Course with Jay-Z.  Everything had been an insane rollercoaster ride up until that point, and we finally stepped back to think about what had happened.  We went from living in apartments and our parents’ houses to being “Linkin Park.”  And we hadn’t totally absorbed what that meant.

I often get asked why I made The Rising Tied–where was I coming from at the time.  On HT, our band was introducing a distinctive sound.  On Meteora, we were putting a twist on that, getting ourselves and the fans set up for the idea that we could do more than the one thing (particularly with tracks like Breaking The Habit and Nobody’s Listening).  Reanimation was an attempt at showcasing the variety of (underground) influences that moved us, past and “present”.  And Collision Course was Collision Course.

After that, as I was thinking about who we were and who I was, I realized that I didn’t feel like my own individual voice and style was totally understood.  We were seen as more of a rock/pop act, but I had basically grown up on underground hip hop.  Sure, I played piano and loved rock music and electronic as well, but hip hop was my foundation.  So I stared making songs, never intending them to come out, just making them because I enjoyed what I was doing.

Thank you to everyone who appeared on the album, played on stage with me, and supported it.  I have no idea what’s to come with Fort Minor, but I look forward to the ride.

THANK YOU!

mike

Hey Mike, question for you: have you heard of/listened to Death Grips? They remind me of the reason I got into LP in the first place, check ’em out if you haven’t.

Hey Mike, saw you today, from the yesterdays lifestream, it´s so nice you´re sharing the whole thing, even the kid´s play tools, I adore to see them in the right high for the kids, so, my brain connected and info was: The kids arefamiliar with all these things even in the studios, the lil bike, lol very impressing, but the other very impressing thing is your “cold”, the third impressig thing is what you were saying and that it would be a “message” album, from the inside, and that´s what I adore lp for. Thank you for that very intimate moment with you…

  36. leanspo on January 3, 2016 at 9:30 am

I heard that LP is working on a new studio album. I know what it takes to create an album or even a simple track. But, I wonder if you could add some acoustic elements and latin american rythms, like in A Thousand Suns.
Big hug to you and have a Happy New Year!

Hi Mike, I´m from Uruguay. Since there´s no much people that know about you here, I just met you two years ago. And when I heard this album I was excited, congratulations for your work, I love this music. I also support Calle 13, if you don´t know them google it, is a rock-rap band from Puerto Rico that talk about honesty and attack all the gangster rappers, the goverment and whatever. So when I met your music and your art, you became my favourite artist ever. I draw, paint, some days I write things and record tracks, so I know what it means to be an ARTIST, and I admire your art.

I saw your name on “Into the Badlands” credits, thought it was really cool to see you pop up in that venue. Was working today and pulled up “The Rising Tied” in iTunes, gave it a listen for the first time in a couple of years. I bought it in 2005 when it first came out, loved it, had it in rotation for a long time. Listening to it again, I remembered what an outstanding album it was, from front to back. Pulled up your website, saw that it’s the 10th anniversary. How’s that for a rabbit trail? You’re an outstanding artist. Glad to have this and Reanimation back in rotation!
    =Mike

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I loved the 2005 AOL session with Fort Minor. Peace out.

FM was an important album that shaped my taste and understanding of meaningful music in hiphop. I personally believe what is made from passion never grows old and this is particularly true for the rising tide. the world needs to hear more sincerity and creativity in music. I look forward to the future, Hiphop don’t stop😉

Ps: would be nice if you could make a best of 2015 playlist for us😉

    Sincerely,
    Zahra

It’s crazy it’s been 10 years. Fort Minor was the reason I started to dig into hip hop and rap back in the day and you (through this project) were the reason I got to know some amazing artists (Lupe, SOB, Kenna) that I still admire and love today.

Even though the future is uncertain, I would love to see more. I’d love it even more if you brought back the guys too. You make a hell of a supergroup!

  50. 1oo71 on November 22, 2015 at 11:35 am

BTW, did you use the GarageBand violin loop for “Remember the Name”? Or did you allow it to be used by them? I’ve always wondered.

  51. 1oo71 on November 22, 2015 at 11:31 am

Hi Mike, I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. After so long, I thought Fort Minor might have been a one-time thing, but the last line has me thinking otherwise. With all these attacks and things, I think that if you want to do something, start “right now”. Don’t take time for granted.

I never really listened to this style of music, but I respect you as a musician and like you as a person so I listened to this album, and it broadened my musical horizons a bit. I was surprised that this was your foundation as the link between FM and LP wasn’t obvious (to me). I’d like to see more of your personal style if you can manage it.
