TheArtCollectors Review

August 31, 2009

Glorious Excess (Dies) got a glowing review by world-class art collector and critic, Ronnie Pirovino today. Here’s what he had to say:

“LA’s Japanese American National Museum is now hosting a prodigious art exhibition by Mike Shinoda entitled Glorious Excess (Dies). The massive creative effort is a pivotal point in the career of the young artist, as he establishes himself outside of his work in music. Shinoda’s adroit use of all types of media to channel his voice is remarkable. The show signals the artist’s ability to create his vision in a plethora of mediums, including digital platforms. It’s clear that the concept of the exhibition has been thoughtfully embedded into each rendition. It’s not too early to opine that Glorious Excess (Dies) provides one the year’s most memorable moments. On view until October 4.”

There are a ton of great images from the show on theartcollectors.com. A special thanks goes out to Ronnie for coming to the show.

Shinoda Customized Honda Motorcycle

August 30, 2009

At the show, some of you may have noticed the crazy Honda roadster on display with the hand-painted “additions” in pink…that bike was donated courtesy of one of the show sponsors, Honda. The motorcycle is actually being auctioned off for charity (JANM) this week. The bids started at $18K US, and ends in 5 days. If you want to buy a motorcycle designed and hand-customized by me, now is the chance. (I even signed it in hot pink Krink)

Here’s where to bid:

By the way, photo credits go to thehundreds and notcot…thanks to those guys, Juxtapoz, Known Gallery, Hypebeast, Freshnessmag, dailydujour, thegluttony…and all the great sites and blogs who have covered the event. The images and reviews have been stunning…thanks for checking out the show.

Shinoda+Metric Remix: GOLD GUNS GIRLS

August 30, 2009

Thanks to everyone who came out for last night’s Glorious Excess (Dies) opening; images of everything are on the way today.

In the preview video for GLXS, some of you noticed a song by Metric in there. I mentioned the band Metric a long time ago…http://www.mikeshinoda.com/comments/recommended_music-music_business/metric_talks_about_self_releasing_album…and some of you know I like their music. Their album “Fantasies” contains a song called “Gold Guns Girls.” When I first heard it, I thought: this is like a theme song for Glorious Excess!

Well, I contacted the band, and (to make a long story short) I remixed the song. With their blessing, it’s now on the “music” page here on mikeshinoda.com http://www.mikeshinoda.com/music

If you like this song, check the band out at http://www.ilovemetric.com/. The band will be making the song available to fans soon…but you’re getting the exclusive here first!

Three Random Things

August 25, 2009

1 – Mikeshinoda.com Featured Artists
I intend to do more of these features on unsigned bands that I think are cool after the dust settles from the GLXS show. If you are a musician or you have a band…get those mp3s ready.

2 – SlamXHype Interview
Sorry about the slamxhype interview going down. I think there was some kind of error over there, and it will probably be back up in the next few days.

3 – A response to this ongoing question:
PS: ANSTICE: ARGH. I need that interview! I’m going to try ONE MORE time before Saturday, and hopefully enough other people will want it enough to make you do it. I’m covering GLXS from beginning to end in our blog. I would like to do a SHORT interview with you (I think I have 9 questions). http://rockstarme.deviantart.com/journal/26694583/ Read this and please, please, PLEASE consider it. Because you’d be made of win if you did. Thanks =)

M: I will answer your questions here on the blog, but only if they’re good, and partly because you said “made of win.” Post your questions on your site right now. If the questions are lame, I will feed you to Phoenix’s goofy little poodle. http://twitter.com/phoenixlp
